NeverYawn Interview
Interviewing: NeverYawn
What is your name?
Thorns is my Wattpad pen name, but my family actually calls me Deek.
Examples of your work:
Why did you join wattpad?
Blame WilliamShakespeare. I just wanted to read Romeo and Juliet, then I fell into this orange madhouse. 😂
How long have you been making graphics for?
About 3-4 years? Which is surprising seeing how little I've improved. Hahaha!
How did you get into graphic designing?
When I wanted to write my first story, I thought it should have a cover so I searched for covermakers here on Wattpad. I bumped into one who had a link to the Multimedia Design Club on her profile and when I clicked it, the rest is history. These are some of the earliest graphics I made there:
What type of graphics do you make, and which do you prefer?
Covers mostly. I also get my kicks making tumblr-ish icons because they're hella easy to make. Right now, I'm also addicted to making GIFs.
What is your favourite part of graphic making?
The millions of pesos I make off of it... 😂 Gah! I wish! No, but seriously, the best thing about graphic making is that it's therapeutic for me. It destresses me, you know? *flashbacks to the times when my Photoshop crashed without saving my work* Yes... so therapeutic.
How long does it usually take you to make a graphic?
30 minutes - 1 hour. But I can procrastinate for days before actually starting the process.
What program(s) do you use for making your graphics?
Photoshop because my laptop can't bear any more apps. Oh, and I tried video editing once. I used WonderShare for that.
Where do you get your inspiration from/who inspires you?
Everyone in the Society inspires me! I'm like a toddler, every graphic I see seems like Da Vinci's shizz to me so I'm easily inspired. Outside of the Society, my idols include selkkiez (who actually taught me how to Photoshop) SeventhStar, modernism, TheFashionPixie, solidarity_, rebellionofhope, onederstruck-, chaosinspace and probably everyone I follow.
Do you have any tips for aspiring graphic designers?
Plagiarizing's for pussies.
But on a more serious note, keep designing. The more you fool around in Photoshop, Pixlr, Picmonkey, etc., the more you actually improve. It may take a while for you to see your own improvement (speaking from experience here), but it takes patience, too. Take tutorials, tips and even criticisms from other people as springboards to improvement. And, follow GraphicSociety! Shameless (and probably unnecessary) advertising but this account's a treasure trove for aspiring designers.
