HumorGurl Interview
Interviewing: HumorGurl
What is your name?
Rachel, but you can basically call me anything, I don't mind xD
Examples of your work:
Why did you join wattpad?
I joined Wattpad to read books at first. But like the rest of us, I got tempted to write. (My works are so bad and cliché, they'll make you cry.)
How long have you been making graphics for?
I used to make covers for my books in the beginning, but I guess I really got into it in February.
How did you get into graphic designing?
As I said, I used to make text-slapped covers for me and my friends with Pixlr. I'm a creative person in general and I always wondered how Photoshop worked and how those oh-so beautiful covers were made. Curiosity lead to discovery of the MDC (Multimedia Design Club) and that lead to me signing up for a group thread. (Shout out to my friend for hiring me, that was one of the best moments :D) Needless to say, I got super inspired by the amazing graphics there. I got myself Photoshop and started to practice on that. I'm still new to it, but I have learnt the basic stuff and I keep learning something new everyday.
This is an example of one of my earlier covers:
What type of graphics do you make, and which do you prefer?
I make all types of covers, book jackets and icons and I have been practising on bookmarks, typographies and image threads. But I prefer making dark, manipulated covers. I also like making light, teenfic covers, but I think I'm not that good at them.
What is your favourite part of graphic making?
My favourite part of graphic making would be that moment when you work hard on something which doesn't make any sense at that moment, but when it all comes together, it looks very pretty. That satisfaction keeps me happy. :)
How long does it usually take you to make a graphic?
I usually make them in an hour, but if it's a bit complicated, I take about three hours, divided into six parts of half an hour since my mother would never let me use my laptop that long. (I've got glasses and my mom takes extreme measures that nothing harms my eye. Plus, she's a doctor.)
What program(s) do you use for making your graphics?
I used Pixlr when starting out, but then I recently switched to Photoshop CS6
Where do you get your inspiration from/who inspires you?
I get my inspiration from movie posters and others graphics. and have graphics that give me life.
Do you have any tips for aspiring graphic designers?
Just one thing. Never, ever, ever use bad quality PNGs. Refrain from using those! Trust me, I learned it the hard way. They take away the look of your graphic by their crappy appearance. Just don't. Also, trust your instinct. It probably will lead you to making something beautiful.
