Diagonas Interview

Interviewing: Diagonas

What is your name?
My name is Sophia, but a lot of people call me Soph.

Examples of your work:

Why did you join Wattpad?
I joined Wattpad because I wanted an outlet for my creative writing. I saw a feature on the growing popularity on the national news and instantly downloaded the app and the whole show has gone on from there.

How long have you been making graphics for?
3 Years? It might be longer, I was splashing out on Pixlr/Dazzle since I was in a nappy to be completely honest with you.

How did you get into graphic designing?
Oh jeez-- I had a friend who was also in the MDC and I was amazed by all of these beautiful covers and I just kinda sat down and was like "I wanna do that." So here I am. But to be completely honest with you, I don't consider anything about this graphic designing, to me it's just a form of art, there's hardly any of the technical designing part included. These are some of the earliest graphics I can find (I always did little collages because I was THAT cool)

What is your favourite part of graphic making?
Definitely choosing the colours and then that amount of time once you've uploaded the graphic and you can finally relax :')

How long does it usually take you to make a graphic?
It completely depends on whether I'm inspired or how detailed the brief is. For example, I could spend five minutes on a vector cover, if everything is clear in my head-- but then also on another one which demands a lot of concentration and dedication can take me up to a few days.

What program(s) do you use for making your graphics?
    I use Photoshop CS6.

Where do you get your inspiration from/who inspires you?
Ooh I mostly get my inspiration from this artist, Risa Rodil, who is slowly gaining popularity. She's a bright and colourful, innovative designer and I adore all of her typographical posters. She's definitely inspired me to take more leaps in my work and include a more adventurous attitude into how I tackle the big impossible tasks.

Do you have any tips for aspiring graphic designers?
Invest time, I think that's the most important thing to keep in mind. Things aren't going to happen overnight; you will not go from a novice to (my main man) Bob Ross instantly. You won't get bitten by a graphic designer (in some Spiderman twist of events) and suddenly know the perfect way to compose a typography, it just doesn't happen.
Believe me, the time you invest into this pays off. I've been very fortunate to be able to make money off of what had been a hobby only a few years ago. Keep resilient-- because a strong mind can practically do anything!
