Overview:

Yan Li, also known as Li, is a major character of The Mage and the Princess. Kidnapped as a child, he escaped and moved to Beelzenia, eventually becoming (Y/N)'s butler.

Appearance:

Li is a young man with green eyes and long hair, tied up in two braids. Half of his hair is white, and the other half is black.

He wears a double breasted coat and long black slacks, complete with white gloves and black slacks.

Backstory:

Li's history is a mystery at the moment. All that is known he received the Dragon Gear, an item said to detect evil, only for him to get kidnapped the next day. He wound up in Beelzenia at some point, and eventually became (Y/N)'s butler.

Story:

New Empress of Beelzenia

Li first appears in the prologue, waking up the Reader to let her know that her father is dead. Comforting the Reader, he snaps at Yoshi for making her more distressed before kicking him out and singing the Clockwork Lullaby in an attempt to soothe the Reader.

Later, he and Yoshi talk to the Reader in an attempt to figure out what to do, as they are confused as to how to announce the news. Reader-chan attempts to declare war on Lucifenia as revenge, and Li shoots her down.

Li goes on to explain that several rulers have been killed by Gula before explaining the Gula plague that hit the Conchita residence a few hundred years ago. However, Li messed up and called Banica a guy, much to Yoshi's amusement.

After Reader-chan breaks the news to her siblings, Li enters the room, visibly upset. He explains that there won't be a mourning period for the dad, and that the Reader must become Empress. He couldn't do much about it, as he wasn't a Beelzenian by birth.

Later, he enters the room where the Reader is, reminding her that it's a bad idea to kill Mercedes' tailor, before commenting that the dress was suited for Banica Conchita. He then walks her to the throne room and hands her a necklace, saying it wards off evil, despite the fact that the day after he received it he got kidnapped from his home. The Reader feels bad, and as they wait for the ceremony, she asks Li what his name means, and he reveals that his name means pretty and strong, causing him to regret his actions. Yoshi joins him, and they watch the Reader get crowned empress, as well as the messenger mentioning that Riliane wanted a chat.

A few months later, Li, Yoshi, and Empress Y/N are seen in a carriage, heading to Lucifenia. Yoshi insists on fighting, much to Li's annoyance, eventually getting into a fight that Y/N stops.

Personality:

Li is a focused individual who wants nothing more than to make sure that Empress-chan is okay. He wants to make sure that she never gets hurt, and is willing to take her place when it comes to pain.

Li is rather easy to fluster, seeing that Yoshi teases him relentlessly.

- Li has known the reader for a long time.

- Li actually hates Elluki Clockworker, but is afraid of hurting Y/N's feelings.

- Given that he grew up alongside the Reader, Li has vowed to view her as a sister. In the event she had to get married within a week, he'd either convince Yoshi to do it, or he'd get Elluki to, if they were on better terms. If Li were to marry Y/N, he feels that he won't be able to help her to the best of his ability.

- If asked, Li will always put Y/N's happiness over his own.

- Li's looks cause everyone to stare at him, making him self-concious. He is tempted to get a mask in order to hide his features, but knows that the Empress might oppose that idea. He knows that she thinks he's adorable, much to his horror.

- Li cannot say no to children, the princesses, or the Empress. Yoshi is slowly worming his way into that list as well.
