Being in the shadow of the popular Cedric Diggory worked both in and out of Riley's favour. While sharing a last name with him ensured that she was well-liked, it also meant that Riley was forced to live up to the high expectations that her older brother had set after being at Hogwarts.

The Summer of 1994, brought Riley, Cedric and their father Amos to the Quidditch World Cup final. The Diggory's travelled to the event with their longtime neighbours the Weasleys, and some new faces such as Hermoine Granger and the famous boy who lived, Harry Potter. Riley was eager to attend the World Cup with them and watch Ireland and Bulgaria face each other.

Going into her third year at Hogwarts, Riley was intrigued by the notion that the well-renowned school was set to host the elusive Triward Tournament along with several students from both Beauxbatons Academy Of Magic and Durmstrang Institute. Riley was beyond excited when Cedric was chosen as the Hogwarts Champion, but her excitement quickly turned to concern and confusion when Harry Potter was then announced as the fourth tri-wizard champion.

As the year continued, Riley and Harry slowly saw more of each other as their worlds became more aligned. Their relationship moulded from strangers to acquaintances to eventual friendship. One that masked the beginnings of a different kind of relationship.
