Chapter 19: Life Saver
You're different...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sleep was not by my side that night. I lay awake, thinking about how I'm so different to Sasuke, that all he's trying to do is attempt to talk to me. All my life I've had only one person who stuck by my side through everything, then one day the hottest guy in school talks to me. Where's the logic?
I know the sun is coming up, and I wait for my alarm to ring. I keep counting down in my head when my alarm will ring.
5, 4, 3, 2, 1
5, 4, 3, 2, 1
I keep counting down in my head.
5, 4, 3, 2, 1
5, 4, 3-
Finally the annoying ringing blasts through my room. I sigh, and get up from my bed. Not a second of sleep.
I'm not wearing what Ino would want me to wear today. Just a plain purple shirt, jean shorts, white sneakers, and absolutely no make up. My hair was also in a pony tail, and strands of hair fall around my neck and on my forehead.
I slacked off on time, so I arrived right as the bell rang. Walking through the doors of my highschool, students crowded around the hallway. The speaker made a beeping sound, meaning an announcement was going to fill the school.
"Good morning students! Don't forget, if you are in Kakashi-Sensei's first period class, you MUST bring your assignments from a week ago in. Thank you, and have a great day!" The high-pitched voice exclaimed.
I felt a pang in my chest, and I widen my eyes at the sudden realization. I was so worried about Sasuke and Kiba, I forgot about the project! Why didn't Sasuke call me?! It was his assignment too! I have no one but my self to blame.
I was biting my nails when I walked into Kakashi-Sensei's class at that point. I was dead... so dead. Sasuke's gonna hate me for not bringing in the assignment. What if he was relying on me to do it?
I wait by the door for Sasuke to come in. He finally walks in, and I push him to the side.
"Sasuke.... I did something so terrible, you're gonna hate me forever." I tell him quickly.
He raises his eyebrow at me, and I continue, "I'm just gonna come right out and say it..."
I bite my lower lip, "I failed us for the school year in this class. I didn't do our project. I forgot about it and-"
"Calm down." He says.
"No, I can't. I failed us-"
I was on the verge of tears at this point, "He's gonna call out names out, and I'm gonna have to say we don't have it. He'll be so dissappointed in us, he'll probably-" I cut myself off, when I see something in Sasuke's hand, "W-what is that?"
"You should be thanking me by now." He smirks.
I widen my eyes, and he opens the poster board. It was decorated with facts and pictures. I open my mouth in shock at Sasuke, and I stare at him.
"Y-you did this all by yourself?" I ask.
"I like to work alone." He shrugs.
I chuckle lightly, and put my hand on my forehead in relief, "I can't believe you did this by yourself."
"I'm waiting."
I raise my eyebrow at him.
"I'm waiting for a thank you."
"Oh yeah! Of course! Thank you. I really mean it." I smile.
He touches my shoulder, and walks away. Sasuke's touch sends chills down my spine. The bell rings, and I sit at my desk.
"Did ya miss me?" Kakashi-Sensei asks boredly.
Everyone rolls their eyes, and he carries on, "I hope you brought in your projects, because I am going to give you a grade in front of the whole class on it. Lucky for all of you, you don't have to present."
Everyone is now smiling, "Alright, let's get started."
5 MINUTES LATER
"Did you not research?! The Byakugan is NOT meant to see through women's clothing! F!" Kakashi-Sensei yells.
He reaches Sasuke and I's table, and I gulp.
"Alright Uchiha and Haruno, let's see what you have here." Sensei opens up the poster board, and I can't tell what his expression.
"Very good children. A." He says.
I smile at Sasuke, and he nods at Sensei. I sigh in relief, and listen to the scores for the rest of the period. Sasuke and I were suprisingly the only A's.
I grab some rice from the lunch line, and head towards my table. Once again, I'm sitting alone. I scan around the room for my small table, but am shocked when I see Sasuke sitting on the other seat. I blush, and head towards the table.
"Hey there." I say nicely.
Sasuke straightens in his seat, and nods a hello. I sit down at my seat, and look at him.
Ten minutes pass, and still silence. Lunch was going to end soon, and he has nothing to say to me. I'm beginning to think he is socially awkward.
"So....." I begin, and Sasuke jerks his head towards me, "Why aren't you sitting with your friends?"
He shrugs, "They only talk about nonsense."
"And our conversations are just SO much better." I reply sarcastically.
"Compared to Naruto talking about the last time he ate Ramen, this is more intriguing."
"Yeah, sitting in awkward silence is just SO intriguing." I answer.
"It's different, though." Sasuke replies.
"And how so?"
"You don't ruin the silence." Sasuke says, staring at me.
I guess we were staring at each other for the longest time, because the lunch bell rings, dissmissing us. I get up, and throw the container of rice away.
"Thank again for doing the project." I say, walking towards the doors with him.
"You just owe me one." He says.
I stop by the doors, "What do I owe you?"
"We're still on for tomorrow at 7, right?" Sasuke asks.
"I suppose."
"Good, because you can't stand me up." He smirks.
"Wouldn't dream of it." I answer sarcastically.
"By the way..." Sasuke begins, scanning my body, "You look better this way."
My heart begins to beat rapidly, and I blush a little.
"See you tomorrow." Sasuke says, and walks away.
