Chapter 12
Michael

"Can you play something for me?" Soph asked pointing to the guitar in the corner.
We were sitting in my room right now, just casually cuddling and watching a video on YouTube that had Sophie dying from laughter. I wasn't really watching because I was too focused on her. I had decided against brining her to my parents today because I didn't want her to get too nervous or to freak out.
I got up from my position and I saw Soph shudder at the lack of heat; I grinned. I grabbed my guitar and sat back down next to her. She immediately moved so she was closer and she sighed in content.
"What should I play?" I asked.
"Wrapped Around Your Finger. It's my favorite," she said blushing slightly.
"Why is it your favorite?" I asked.
"You sing a lot in it and I like it," she said nuzzling her face into my chest. I was happy.
I started playing the song softly and she hummed along. If I could do this everyday I'd never be upset.
"In the moonlight you looked just like an angel in disguise; my whole life seemed like a postcard," I sang and Sophie looked up at me smiling.
I continued playing until I finished the song and she had fallen asleep on me. It was only 5 p.m. I swear this girl slept more than a bear.
I grabbed the game controller from my bedside table and turned on the TV. Why not play a bit of Destiny while Sophie was asleep? It had been awhile.

I started skating around in circles as Michael clung to the wall.
"How the fuck do you make this look so easy?" Michael asked.
"Saying I went to Nationals I'd say that I can make any trick on the ice look easy," I mused.
I skated forward a bit and Michael tried to follow but ended up wobbling and falling over.
"Goddammit!" Michael yelled and I looked around to make sure there weren't any little kids; just a small group of unamused high schoolers that looked like they'd rather be at school.
"Don't try gliding your feet. March as if you were a soldier or if you were in marching band," I said.
Michael tried what I had said and moved about four feet forwards before he fell again.
"Can't you help me?" he whined from where he was sitting on the ice.
I helped him up and I held onto his hands. I started skating backwards as he glided forwards. We went around the rink once before Michael started to have problems again. He stopped a bit and I knew he was about to fall.
He fell and landed on top of me. I let out a yelp as I hit the ice and Michael landed on top of me.
"Shit Soph, I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry, I'm so sorr-," Michael started and I laughed.
"I think you just found your toe pick," I said smiling.
"Why aren't you mad? I just made you fall and landed on top of you," he said confused.
Michael was still laying on me and I was looking up at him ramble.
"I've had worst falls Michael, this was nothing compared to what happened at regionals once," I said still laughing.
He stumbled getting up and I soon followed once he had moved about two feet away.
"Why don't you do something cool?" Michael asked pointing to the almost empty rink except for the small group of high schoolers.
"What if I don't want to?" I asked and he started leaning forward puckering his lips. I pushed him back and he wobbled a bit but didn't fall.
"Ew gross, Mikey. Fine, I'll do something," I whined.
I took off skating backwards down the rink, and once I had gained enough speed, stuck my toe pick into the ice and did a double lutz.
"How do you do that?" Michael called out from where he was clinging to the wall.
"Lots of practice," I said grinning.
"I can be just like you," he mused.
He skated forward three feet and did a terrible jump on two feet and landed on the back of his blades causing him to fall backwards. He was sitting on the floor groaning as I laughed.
"Jesus Michael, you're going to kill yourself if you do that," I said skating towards him.
"My butt hurts," he pouted.
"Want me to kiss it better?" I asked jokingly and Michael started nodding eagerly which I laughed.
I skated away from him and he stood where he was.
"Do something else!" Michael cheered and I laughed.
I motioned for him to continue staying where he was and started doing a bunch of backwards crossovers.
"Don't fail!" he yelled and I giggled.
I stepped into the camel spin I had planned on doing and did a few rotations before dropping it down to do a sit spin. I had hated sit spins when I first learned but now they were my favorite. If you fell in one, you'd only fall about five inches. I missed skating. I missed feeling the air surrounding me and how free I felt gliding on the ice.
I had almost made it to the Olympics. Four hour practices on school days. Nine hour practices on the weekend. It was a lot of work. It went down hill when I broke my leg trying to land a triple axel the day before the competition to get in. I landed funny and was in a cast for five months.
My mom was pissed to say the least and I still think that's why she's bitter towards me to this day.
I glided across the ice, feeling really light on my feet, and stopped two inches before hitting Michael making him flinch and fall down. Laughing and laughing, I offered a hand to pull him up. He grabbed on to it and pulled me down. I fell down on top of him and he let out a grown. His arms snuck around my waist and I found it rather comforting there with him.
"The ice is cold," Michael mumbled.
"No duh, dipshit," I said and he laughed causing me to vibrate from lying on his stomach.
"But I like holding you so it's okay," he said squeezing me tighter.
"It's your birthday tomorrow, how do you feel?" I asked.
"Old, I'm not ready to be 19. I can't believe I have one year left until I'm no longer a teenager," he sighed.
"Yeah, you are old," I said, kissing his cheek lightly and standing up quickly.
"Did you just call me old?" he asked smugly and I nodded.
He stood up from where he was on the ice and pulled me closer to him. I let out a squeak in surprise but Michael still held onto me. I pushed on his arms but he held on tighter. I struggled in his grip.
"Michael, can you please put me down?" I whined pushing on his grip but he just kept the same smug look on his face.
He started skating forward a bit and I struggled to keep my balance as I was tugged behind him. He had his hands linked in my hoodie pocket and I had my arms wrapped around his in terror.
"Michael, you can barely skate forwards. How the hell are you skating backwards?" I asked.
"There's less chance of hitting the toe pick thingy you said," he said.
"Michael, it's even worse going bac-" I started but Michael stumbled and since I was attached to Michael we both fell to the ground. I landed on Michael with a yelp and Michael grunted. It sounded really hot but I wasn't going to tell him that.
"Dipshit," I muttered and he grinned sheepishly.
"I'm sowwy Sophie," he said childishly and I just laughed.
Michael held me, hearts beating rapidly, I think we were both scared from falling still.
I got off of Michael and laid on the ice next to him. Michael moved and laid down on top of me. I had mixed emotions at the moment.
"You're a dipshit," I said looking him in the eyes and he gave me a sheepish smile.
"I'm seriously so sorry. The guys thought it'd be a good idea to take you ice skating but I feel like it just caused more injury. I'm sorry," he rambled.
"You're stupid. Let's get off the ice; I'm freezing," I said pushing him up slightly.
He pulled me into a hug and kissed the top of my head and I hugged him back. I loved his hugs and I felt like I could just stand there forever.
"Please clear the ice. Public skate is over. Thank you," a nasally voice sounded through the intercom and it rang through the almost-empty rink.

We were sat at a cafe about twenty minutes from the rink but Michael assured me they made the best coffee. By the time we actually got to the coffee shop I had heated up in the eighty degree weather but since Michael offered I wasn't going to turn it down.
The cafe was something that I wished I had in my hometown. It was cozy and warm and I felt like I had stepped into some type of woodland fairytale.
"Two coffees; one black and the other with cream and sugar," the owner of the shop called out.
Michael forced me to get the cups so I stood up awkwardly and made me way to her.
"Here you go, sweetie," she said smiling.
I thanked her and went to sit back down in front of Michael.
We sat there and were just talking about the stupidest stuff. He discussed what we were going to be doing for the next two months and I was very excited.
Michael even offered to take me to the beach once or twice and I was surprised, because of the almost four years I had known Michael Clifford, he had only been to the beach once.
It wasn't even by choice! He was forced by Calum and Luke. He spent the whole afternoon underneath a giant umbrella and complained about how he was getting tan.
"Are you Michael Clifford?" a girl's voice said from behind us.
"It is I," he said grinning and I rolled my eyes at his stupidity.
She was really pretty which was the first thing I noticed. Her hair was dark as dark as night and skin was as pale as snow practically making Snow White. If there had been a human version, she would've been great for the role.
"Can I get a picture?" she asked.
"Sure, Soph, can you take the picture?" he asked. I nodded my head and she handed me her phone.
I took three or four pictures so she could choose which one she liked more and she thanked me for taking the picture. She left almost immediately after once she had picked up a couple of coffees for her office.
Two hours had passed and we were long past finishing our coffee. I still had to finish the final part of Michael's birthday present so I had told Michael to get Calum to take me to the mall. I didn't need Michael finding out what I got him.
We walked out of the coffee shop and I stood still in shock. They all started cheering. There was about 100 teenage girls and some moms sitting in the parking lot.
"Michael, what's going on?" I asked.
"I think the girl I got a picture with may have told a few people," Michael whispered.
"Wait what?" I asked getting confused.
"Uh, hey guys!" Michael said and the girls started cheering again.
They started moving closer and closer until I was no longer next to Michael. I started panicking and my breathing got shallow. I felt like I was going to throw up or pass out or throw up after passing out. They all started clawing forward and I was pushed and shoved by a few of them. I wasn't going to cry but I felt like I was going to. I fell to the ground. I felt weak. I was very claustrophobic and this was not helping at all.
"Sophie!" Michael yelled.
"Michael!" I screamed back trying to find him over the girls mobbing.
I took two steps trying to make it to the building before my eyesight started going fuzzy and I blanked out. Everything went black and I collided with the hard pavement.
