The One and Only Chapter

Listen to this song while you read this: Break The Distance by Ashton Edminster

I ball my hands into fists again and again, trying to release some of the tension that is swirling in my abdomen. I watch impatiently as people grab their luggage and get off the plane.

Why does it take everyone so damn long?!

My teeth chatter and my legs are shaking violently as if there is an earthquake stemming from my chest.

I have been waiting for this moment for so long. And now it is finally going to happen. I'm about to meet Sam. I'm actually going to meet her and see her in person...This is crazy!

"Um...ma'am?" A deep voice asks.

I'm startled out of my own thoughts and back into reality. A male flight attendant is standing over my seat, staring at me. I look around.

Everyone has already gotten off the plane.

"Oh my god!" I exclaim, ripping the seatbelt off my body.

I jump out of the seat and snatch my backpack off the floor, hurtling over the seat in front of me and shoving the man out of my way.

"Ma'am-"

The rest of his sentence is lost as I fly down the aisle. In front of me, the pilot walks out of the cabin, rubbing his eyes and yawning. I barrel into him, sending him flying backwards.

To be fair, he was in my way.

The tunnel leading from the airplane to the airport is empty of life, and for that I'm thankful. I run as fast as my legs will carry me. My backpack bounces against my back and arms pump by my sides, propelling me forward.

Right as I reach the entrance, my foot catches on a small ledge, causing me to sprawl out on the floor. I groan in pain.

"Ughhh...." I stand to my feet and wipe my sticky hands on my pants.

A few steps forward, and I'm in the London airport. A throng of people meet me and the bitter smells of coffee and sweat waft over to my nose.

My eyes frantically search the crowd, looking for my friend.

She's there, my mind whispers. Right there.

My eyes flicker over to a chair where a girl is reading a book.

Time seems to stop. I don't notice the group of boys laying in the floor, using their suitcases as pillows. Nor do I see the mother comforting her screaming baby. I pay no mind to the old couple, hobbling along past me, holding wrinkled hands and smiling toothless grins. All I see is her. Sam.

I take a tentative step closer to my best friend.

"Sam?" I whisper.

Somehow, despite the roaring noise and frantic swarm of people, she hears me. Her eyes leave the page and focus on my face. Those beautiful orbs clear and her book clatters to the floor as she stands.

"Kai?"

A smile spreads across my face.

She knew it was me. She knew.

My heart shatters into a million happy pieces as I start to run towards her. I shove people out of my way, ignoring the insults growled and the glares shot at me, because honestly, I don't even notice them. I am too focused on her.

My backpack slips off my shoulders. Sam discards her phone on the floor and races towards me, dashing through the mass. A small child stumbles back as my hand whacks him in the face, but I don't look back or ask him if he's okay.

I finally reach Sam and do what I've been wanting to do since the first time I met her. I tackle her to the ground in a bone-crushing hug.

"OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH SAM SAM OH MY GOSH", tears stream down my face and sobs erupt from my mouth.

I squeeze her tightly, never wanting to let go. This moment, I never want it to end. I pull back slightly and raise my hand to her face, caressing it gently.

"Is this real?" I mutter.

Sam smiles even bigger and a giggle rises from her chest and bubbles out past her rose-hued lips.

"Yes", she laughs.

I have no words, only unconditional love, so I just wrap my arms around her once more and clutch her to me, as if someone was trying to take her away. As if I would ever let that happen.

"Kai...can you-could you just-um....." Sam's words tickle my ear as she struggles to breath under my tight embrace.

"Nope. I'm not ever letting go", I promise.

She sniffles and tears form in her eyes.

"I'm so glad I finally get to meet you."

More tears cascade down my cheeks.

"I'm glad I finally get to meet you too."

I stand up, still with one arm around Sam's shoulder, and help her to her feet. Once she is standing, I look into her eyes and beam, happiness and love exploding out from every cell in my body.

"Guess what?" I say.

She looks at me quizzically.

"What?"

"I love you."

Sam looks at me and hugs me once more, snuggling her head on my shoulder.

"I love you too."

THE END

I HOPE YOU ENJOYED MY STORY! I CERTAINLY ENJOYED MAKING IT, AND I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT SEVERAL TEARS WERE SHED WHILE MAKING THIS.
I REALLY DO HAVE AN INTERNET FRIEND NAMED SAM, AND WE REALLY DO HOPE TO MEET ONE DAY. I STRUGGLED TO PUT MY LOVE FOR HER INTO WORDS, AND I FEEL THAT THIS BOOK DOESN'T EVEN BEGIN TO EXPLORE THE DEPTHS OF THAT AFFECTION THAT I HAVE FOR HER. BUT I TRIED.
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH, SAM. I CANT WAIT FOR THE DAY WHEN WE FINALLY MEET.
All my love forever,
Kai ❤️
