Chapter 25 - Down in the Jungle
Previously in International Agents:
"Adrijan. You are Croatia's most skilled assassin and Giovanni you are also an excellent assassin. You will both be tasked with taking out the guards and aiding in the capture of Serafin."
"And Finally Elizabeth. You must make sure your core is charged fully before embarking. Are you able to do that?"
"Yes James." I said with a grin. I would do it on the plane but I don't want it to crash.
"You will need to search for the glowing chip which we have managed to obtain an image of. You will also take out Natalie." My blood boiled and my mouth was filled with the sour taste of revenge. After I received the letter, James informed everyone of the situation and how Natalie betrayed us all. If I found her she had no hope in hell against me.

We finally landed in Caquetá at 3.30 Am. I was extremely jet-lagged and as soon as I got to my hotel room I passed out from complete exhaustion. Tomorrow we would be travelling for the majority of the day. A 50 mile journey every day with little rest time and we would only sleep for a few hours. I was mentally recharging my core as I slept and was preparing myself for the mission ahead.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Elizabeth's POV:
I wanna rock an roll all night and party every day
I was humming and tapping my fingers on the side of the window trying to keep in time with the rhythm floating around in my head.
"Kiss?"
"Pardon?"
Pepe was leaning against some cases in the cargo hold of this delivery plane, he had a small notebook and was writing things down.
"The song? It's by kiss yes?"
"Yeah, just something to do to pass the time." I yawned, stretching my hands up above my head, "What's the notebook for?"
He threw it to me and I caught it, gazing down at the embroidered cover, tracing my fingers over the intricate designs. I opened it and saw pages and pages of lyrics and sketches of albums covers adorning the white lined paper.
"This is really good! What's it for?"
He looked at me like I was nuts and came over to collect the notebook.
"Elizabeth, I'm a Spanish singer by day, secret agent and occasional party animal at night, I need to someone to record the ideas. Plus I need the money."
"I'm sure you do." I smiled sarcastically as I gazed back out of the window, looking out, over the city.
"How much are you getting paid for this?"
"£1 million. Why?" It was a little unusual for anyone that was my friend or accountant to ask me this but whatever, I might die during this mission anyway.
"Don't worry chica, Just making sure that we are treated equally."
"well, how much are you getting paid then?"
"Same as you, but it is around €1,144,661.32 when converted".
"You definitely need the money." I laughed, he chuckled slightly before I heard the crackling on my radio.
"This is Echo hotel. Who is requesting information? OVER."
"This is Juliet Mike. OVER"
"Juliet? I think I prefer that over James." I was trying to hold back my laughter. He looked like a Juliet.
"You are nearing the entrance to the amazon, we will not be able to talk for 5 hours as we need to establish a secure connection. Does everyone have what they need?"
I looked at Pepe and he nodded.
"Pepe does and so do I but I'll go an ask the others" I spoke into the radio as I jogged to the back of the plane. I could see Pierre, Giovanni and Adrijan laughing as they talked in a circle.
"Bonjour Lizzie! You ready for this mission?" Pierre asked. All the boys were smiling at me which was a bit unusual.
"Umm yeah, Listen lads, James want's to know if you have got all your stuff ready."
"Tell Juliet Mike that we are ready Bella!" said Giovanni, he was looking at me with longing eyes. A tad bit creepy. I gave him an awkward smile and turn the radio back on.
"Juliet? Yeah we are ready when you guys are. OVER"
The line went silent for a bit before a loud crackling sounded over the line.
"Ok Copy that, we are losing connection. When the bay door opens you will need to parachute into the jungle. A GPS tracker will help you to identify where you are."
"Ok thank you James, Echo Hotel out." I looked at the lads and nodded "Time to get cracking!"
----------------------------------------------------------
"You ever done this before Blondie?"
We were standing on the edge of the door of the cargo bay and Pierre was holding on to a large steel rod which connected the door to the plane, his legs shaking uncontrollably.
"Yeah a few hundred times, how about you?" I asked standing away from the edge and gazing out onto the vast array of trees not holding on to anything.
"More times than I can count but I haven't done it in years. Plus I'm actually afraid of heights."
We laughed and I felt a hand tap my shoulder. "Hey Adrijan! You ready?". He nodded and moved a bit of black hair away from his face so I could see his eyes. They shone in the sunlight and I could see that he was very determined. I waited for a little while so that all us agents could stand together. I nodded to each and every one of them and they all gave me a thumbs up.
"See ya in a bit boys!". I saluted and jump off of the platform and out of the plane.
I was falling fast, faster than I had anticipated. I fell through the misty cloud layer and my clothes pretty much absorbed an entire cloud, I was drenched. I heard a yell above me and roll over so I was falling on my back. I could see Pierre falling very fast. He was pulling on his parachute cord but it wouldn't open. He was falling closer and closer to me. The other guys were to far away to hear his cries for help.
"Elizabeth!" he yelled, which was clear for about 3 seconds, before he came catapulting past me. I flipped myself straight and managed to grab his arm. He grabbed mine and I pulled the chord for my parachute. We flew straight back up in the air, and finally started falling at a constant pace.
We came in for a rough landing, falling through the branches of a tree, I unfortunately dropped Pierre and he landed on the ground with a smack. My parachute got caught in a tree and I became entangled in the branches. I looked down and I was around 50ft up. The others had landed but were around 30 metres away and couldn't see me even though I was dangling from a tree flaying about with my arms in the air.
I reached down to the radio and tried to pick it up, my arms were restricted by the tangled wires and after struggling for several seconds I managed to push the button on top of the radio and yelled into it.
"Guys, I'm legit stuck in a tree with about a 50ft drop. I'm a few seconds away from dropping to my death so please hurry". A few crackles and then the line when silent.
"Lads, it's not even funny. I'm going to die in about 30 seconds, please hurry." Still complete silence. So after about 5 minutes of trying to get the radio to work I dropped it. It fell to the ground with a crack but luckily it didn't break.
The sun was going down and I was stuck in a tree. What a great way to die. I knew I had to do something. I managed to kick my leg up high enough so that my knife slipped out of my boot. I grabbed it tight and then realised that Pierre was still on the ground. I looked down to see he was out cold, not dead, just unconscious.
Back to the matter at hand, I managed to free one of my arms by cutting one of the straps on my rucksack, it fell to the ground with a thump about a inch away from Pierre's head. I cut another one of the cords and slipped down the tree slightly, scraping my arms and legs on the course bark. I was being suspended by 1 single thread. I prayed that it wouldn't break but my luck ran out and the cord snapped. I fell fast and my life flashed before my eyes before I was caught by something soft.
The first though that came to mind was that I had smothered Pierre and that I had single handily killed him. I opened one eye and came face to face with Adrijan.
"Did you have a nice fall?" He asked helping me down.
"It's about bloody time! Didn't you hear my cries for help? What about the radio?" I was speaking way to fast for anyone that wasn't fluent in gibberish to understand.
"The radios didn't have any connection and at first I thought your screams were an animal being eaten but we are here now!"
"Well thanks, is Pierre ok?" I asked looking around to see he had disappeared.
"Yeah, just a bit dazed." Adrijan said, leading me by the hand to talk to Pierre.
He was sat on the root of a tree that reached up far above the amazon. He was rubbing the temples of his head and Giovanni and Pepe were looking at a map.
"You alright Pierre?, Sorry for dropping you."
"It's fine, You saved my life, that's all I could ask for." He smiled. "By the way, You are so strong, how could you hold my weight?"
"Lots of training." I shrugged and looked up into the tree at the cut rope which my life depended on. That was a close call, to close for comfort.
"Right everybody, it's getting dark so we are behind schedule. We will be walking for most of the night." Said Giovanni, waving to get our attention. I picked up my rucksack and tightened the straps to fasten it on my back. I grabbed my radio and started to fiddle with the buttons as we started to walk deep into the amazon.
It was pitch black, with only the glares from are torches to lead our way. This was no way to travel, we were making little progress and could barely see. I suddenly had an idea.
"Adrijan?" I whispered into the dark, I almost jumped out of my skin when I felt something soft grab my hand.
"Yes?" I shone my torch into his face and he squinted his eyes because of the brightness.
"Should I use some of my blue energy to light our path?"
He began to look uneasy at the thought as we shuffled deeper in the dark.
"Is that a good idea? Doesn't James want you to save it for when we get to the base?"
I sighed, he was right but we had to travel for 10 days, I could recharge during the day and at rest periods and light our way at night.
"Look, were not going to get very far if we can't see our path." I said as we continued to shuffle into the dark.
"Do it but you will have to explain to the others." I nodded and gave him a small smile. He backed away a bit and I crouched small on the ground, pressing my palms onto the broken twigs, feeling each and every individual particle. I thought about a small glowing light, blue in colour but with every breath I took it grew brighter and brighter until it flooded my vision.
When I opened my eyes the trees were basked in a soft glowing light, accompanied by the shocked faces of Pierre, Giovanni and Pepe.
