Ripples broke the surface
Tattered reflections with memories of another
Lifeless forest surrounded the water
As if everything stilled
Just to hear them speak
When they spoke, words tumbled
Like they had never spoken before
Jumbled mumbling with frantic tones
Begging for anyone, anything to listen
A being other than the trees
Or the dull water
Something to take to their words
They were desperate to be heard
But no one listened
No one cared to pay attention
Until they were gone
