Lackluster Stars

I dreamt I touched the stars—

Lived among them, too,

Tip-toed around their edges,

Till I twinkled gold in hue,

And became one of the trillion

Stars I used to view—

Brighter than I imagined,

Yet, somehow cold and blue.

The stars lacked the luster

I saw when out of reach,

So when I wake—far and away,

The stars I do not reach.
