Control

We seek control for peace of mind,
Though it's to no avail.
My anchor stays within the boat;
The wind will guide my sail.

I'm taken to pond's murky edge,
Where life lies under stone.
To my surprise—before my eyes,
A life I've never known.

On the edge of my rocky boat,
A new friend beats its wings.
I wave and float to its heartbeat—
Trust, a beautiful thing.

Insects, chirping beyond the reeds,
Construct a symphony.
Water ripples; flowers sway
—Beautiful imagery.

From under Sweet Flag a fish appears,
Hungry for attention.
—When snap! It devours a tadpole,
Teaching me a lesson. . .

We are never in control.
