'I'm sorry...'
'I'm sorry!'
'I'm sorry... for lying to you...'
"HUH!?" You bolted up, staring at the wall opposite of you.
'What... the hell?' You thought, noticing your neck was soaked with sweat. You heard P/n whimper from next to you and you realized she must of had the same dream. You laid back in your bed and closed your eyes. P/n walked up next to you and laid near your head.
~
The next morning, it took a little bit longer for you to get up and enter the main control room. When you did, you noticed two people missing.
"Where's Keith? Where's Allura?" You asked, walking up behind Shiro.
"We're contacting them now," Shiro replied.
"Princess, Keith, where are you?" Coran asked.
"Exactly where we should be, far away from the castle," Allura's voice replied.
"What? Why?" Shiro asked.
"We must know if we are the ones Zarkon is tracking," Allura replied.
"The're isolating the variable. Well, isolating two variables," Pidge explained.
"In English, please?" Lance called across from her.
"In order to test a hypothesis..."
"I said English!"
"Ugh! Never mind!"
"Pidge is right. If Zarkon finds you despite my absence, we will know with total certainty that we are not the ones he is tracking," Allura agreed.
"Splitting us up like this is dumb as shit," you said, already irritated.
"Y/n is right. Come back to the castle immediately," Shiro added.
"I'm sorry Shiro. I cannot do that."
"If Zarkon does find us I can pilot us to safety. We're in wide open space with plenty of room to maneuver. Pluse we'd be able to outrun him. Pidge added that booster rocket," Keith argued.
"We need both of you back here now--!"
The castle shook, which set off the alarms.
"What's going on?" Shiro asked.
"We're in some sort of debris field," Hunk replied.
"I believe it's coming from Taujeer... correction, I think it is Taujeer!" Coran said.
"Coran, what's going on--" The comm cut out.
"Some kind of radiation from the planet is interfering with communications!"
"Move the castle away from the planet and reestablish the link. Everyon else, get to your lions."
You left a little bit before the others and arrived at the planet, slowly descending down onto the ground. Or what was left of it. You looked around and saw acid slowly rising to the surface.
"Great..."
You got out of P/n the same time Shiro did and ran up to one of the Taujeerians.
"Thank goodness you're here! I am Baujal, the leader of the Taujeerians. The Galra just destroyed our ship's engines and left," Baujal explained. You glanced over at P/n and saw she was leaning over the edge, gingerly swiping her paw at the rising acid.
"P/n..."
She whimpered in embarrassment before trotting back over to you.
"They've taken everything. We must get everyone off the planet before it dissolves completely! Please, help us!" Baujal begged.
"How long do we have?" Shiro asked before the planet shook violently and a piece of land had risen in a fault.
"Not long apparently," you replied.
"How did this happen?" Shiro asked.
"We've known for years that our planet would eventually lose its outer layer," Baujal replied.
"Like a snake shedding its skin?" Lance asked.
"Yeah, yeah, that doesn't sound so bad. I mean beneath that old skin is a new, healthy layer, right?" Hunk added on.
"Nope. No, I-I think the next layer is acid," Pidge replied.
"The plan was to evacuate the population to our nearest moon, where we have built a colony to wait out the shedding process. So we relocated to higher ground and constructed that ark," Baujal explained further, turning to look at the large ark.
"What happened?" You asked.
"The Galra attacked, led by a vile commander named Morvok. He robbed us of vital resources and left us with only one operational engine, stranding us here."
"You're not stranded anymore. We will save your people," Shiro declared. Baujal turned around to face him.
"I believe you, for I have heard many legends of the valor Voltron. Five brave paladins dedicated to this--wait wait..."
You and P/n glanced at each other.
"I count only four of you. Are you not Voltron?" He asked.
"No, they are... just... down one..." You replied awkwardly.
"Where is the fifth paladin?" Baujal asked.
"He's not here, but we can still help you," Shiro replied.
"I would feel more comfortable with all five paladins."
Your eye twitched.
"I'm here too, ya know..." You grumbled, crossing your arms.
"Duly noted," is all Shiro said before turning to the lions. "Pidge, Hunk, take a look at the ark and see what we're dealing with."
"Piece of cake. We'll get it flying in no time," Hunk assured. The planet shook again, causing the legs of the ark to snap. The ship crashed onto the ground. "... would you settle for upright?"
~
You and the other paladins were in the sky staring down at the ark. The acid surrounding it gave limited room.
"Y/n, do you think you could freeze the acid?" Shiro asked.
"Freezing it is one thing. Keeping it frozen is another. It's fucking acid so I'd only be able to freeze the top layer at most. Since this acid is not like earth acid," you replied.
"That's good enough. Hunk, you and I will take our lions and get this ark upright while Pidge, Lance, and Y/n buy us some time," Shiro ordered. Everyone immediately went to work. You exited P/n and landed on the breaking ground. You began to slowly freeze the acid as Pidge used her vine laser to stitch the ground together and Lance froze them with is beam.
"Yes! It worked!" Pidge exclaimed.
"It won't hold forever. Keep going!"
You applied more ice when the acid burned and bubbled through it.
'P/n, help Hunk and Shiro!' You thought to her. P/n flew down and pushed the ark as well, pushing it upright. The rest of them placed the legs that the ark was held on as stabilizers. The lions landed on the ground. You jumped over the large vault and over to where the others were. Shiro and Hunk exited their lions.
"What do we do now?" You asked.
"Well first thing's first we need to get the engine up and running again," Shiro replied. You sighed and looked at the crumbling Taujeer.
"Great..."

Ja ne!
