6: I Fall For Mr. Rogers
Lucy:
I sat on the edge of my seat, anxiously watching to see if Spock would survive. I nearly jumped out of my skin when Piper burst through the door, bringing the glorious smell of greasy egg rolls with her.
"Seriously," she asked, gesturing to the tv, "Do you ever watch anything else?" She knew full well that Star Trek was my show. I would much rather get lost in a book than have to wait months for the next season of some show to come out. I rarely ever watched anything that wasn't from before my time.
'No, I don't,' said the television. We looked at each other with amusement before dishing up the steaming hot goodness.
------------
Friday morning began as usual. The courthouse was quiet all morning; and I caught myself thinking about yesterday's incident more than once. I couldn't help it. When my imagination had something to work with, it could go on for hours. Wow, did I need a life.
Not a soul came through the door until afternoon. And who else to come first but Mr. Rogers. Trying desperately to avoid another awkward encounter, I moved on to a different room.
I got all of my work done early, so I decided to take a walk before Piper came to get me. I didn't go far. Only a quarter mile, down to the shady spot. I had found this beautiful arbor during my lunch break a few days before. The trees were so tall and wide that they created a room of sorts. The smell was heavenly. There was just the right amount of light. It was the perfect place to unwind and just think.
I could still see the parking lot and the main entrance to the courthouse from my not-so secret place. I didn't need to worry about leaving Piper waiting.
Finally, after getting tired of feeling like bugs were crawling all over me, I headed back to the building. I could see Piper's blue beater coming up the road. Of course, since I was looking at the car, I was not watching where I was walking and tripped over a crack in the sidewalk. Luckily and unluckily for me, Mr. Rogers just happened to be there to save me from falling on my face
"Careful!" He said, then recognizing me he added, "We've got to stop meeting like this." He chuckled, showing of a wonderful smile. He wasn't wearing the jacket today, so I could see the veins rippling on his arms as he lifted me back to standing position. Before yesterday, I wouldn't have thought it possible for someone to have that much muscle. He lifted me as if I was as light as a feather. Being over two hundred pounds, I as definitely not light as a feather.
"We really do. Thanks." With a quick goodbye, I retreated to the safety of the car.
Once again, Piper seemed very amused at my inability to speak to him. "Why do you keep doing that?" She asked, giggling at my flushed cheeks.
Yes, why did I keep doing that?
I really hope I'm not the only one who relates A LOT with poor Lucy! - UQ
