Chapter One - Practice

August 12th 2008

There comes a time in your life when you realize why you are here.  When you realize that everything you had worked so hard for had finally come in full circle and brought you to where you are now.  It was time for the 2008 Olympics and Madison Metcalf was the twenty-four year old seven time gold medalist along with a silver medal for USA Gymnastics.  She also received a one time silver as well as a gold medalist for the Winter Olympics.

Madison loved the thrill of it all.  She loved the excitement she got from the fans.  The medals.  The way she and her teammates were always there for each other.  It made her who she was today.  She loved seeing all of her hard work and dedication pay off.

When she was performing on the bars - she felt alive.  Free.  Flying like a bird without a care in the world.  It was one of her favorite things in the world and where she most excelled.

Madison was on a zoom call with her boyfriend in her hotel room.  She was exhausted after competing that day.  She was eating her sour patch kids candy with no makeup on and in her USA gear that the Olympics had gifted her.

"You were amazing," William told Madison and she smiled.

"Thank you," she smiled at him.  Having his support along with her family meant the world to them.  "I wish you were here."

They were still technically dating in private.  Of course, there was always speculation that they were dating as they were seen out at different places on a few occasions but nothing had ever been confirmed yet.  The only people who knew were their friends, family and her team.  They had been dating for eleven months, almost a year and Madison could recall the time she met the young prince.  It was four years ago when she had won the last Olympics.  William and Harry were at the Olympics in Greece.  She was only twenty and he was twenty-two at the time but William could remember being amazed at the young Olympian even then.

But then again there were rumors going around that he was possibly back together with his ex-girlfriend, Kate Middleton, which were not true.

"I do too," he let out a sigh, knowing that they didn't get to see each other much when it was competition season and especially the Olympics.  "I might be able to make it out there in a few days though.  I'll get the chance to see you in action?"

"Can you really?" Madison perked up at the thought.  "Will the military allow it?"

"Yeah," he let out a laugh.  "I had actually put in the request a month ago and they said I'll hear back either today or tomorrow."

"That would be awesome if they do.  I've missed you."

"I've missed you too, Mads.  How have your coaches been?"

William was worried about his girlfriend and the other girls, but especially Madison.  He had seen a handful of times some odd behavior from her coach Mark and just hoped that she was being safe.

"Coach Lindsay and Erin are great.  Mark is just being Mark," she rolled her eyes.  "He's an ass as always."

"I wish there was something I could do," he told her.

"Honestly, I don't know if there's anything any of us can do.  How have you and your family been?"

Madison had only been able to meet Harry so far and that was four years ago when they weren't even dating yet.

"They're good.  We're all happy that Harry's home from deployment."

He was deployed back in 2007 for ten weeks so he had been back for a few months.  They were enjoying their time together.  Madison knew that William was kind of jealous that Harry got to be deployed and he doesn't and knew it was kind of a sore spot with him.

"That's great," the brunette smiled.

They talked a little bit more about how both Harry and William were doing in the military before she remembered something.

"Oh so get this," she said with a straight face and put the foiled package in front of her laptop so that he could see it.  He squinted his eyes so that he could get a closer look.

"Is that a condom?" They both started laughing.

"Yeah," she laughed more.  "Apparently there are some athletes here having sex and they wanted them to have safe sex.  So free condoms for everyone!"

"That's hilarious.  At least it will come in handy next time we see each other."

"I love how you just automatically think next time I see you we're going to be having sex," she laughed.

"Well we normally do, don't we?" He joked.

"You aren't wrong."

Suddenly her teammate, Melanie, walked into her room, startling her slightly but then she relaxed.

"God Mel, did you have to scare me like that?"

"Sorry," she smiled sheepishly at her best friend.  "Are you talking to Wills?" She asked as she perked up.

"Hi Melanie," the blonde prince waved to the gymnast.

"Hi Wills," she waved back as her face popped onto the screen.  "You should have seen your girl today in practice.  She tore it up," she said making William smile.

These two days were their practice days as it was the men's team competing today and tomorrow.

"She always does," he agreed with her with a proud smile.  "I'm sure you were great too."

He knew how amazing Melanie was also.  Melanie and Madison had almost as many medals as each other.  Madison held twenty-eight medals over all not including her Olympic ones whereas Melanie held twenty-five just shy of two medals away and held the same amount of Olympic medals.  It was a friendly competition between the two and everyone on the news talked about how they were the dynamic duo.

"Thanks," she said with a smile.  "I think I did alright."

"Oh no, not just alright.  She's being too nice," Madison laughed shaking her head.

William loved seeing his girlfriend and the close relationships she had with her teammates.  He had seen first hand the long grueling practices she had put into this.  All of the insanely intense workouts she did almost every day.

"You know the lamest one they have in the Olympics is ping pong in my opinion," Madison said as she drank some blue Gatorade.

"It's so lame," Melanie groaned and rolled her eyes.  "I mean what kind of workout do they they have to do?  Roll their wrists?"

"There's ping pong in Olympics?" William asked as his eyebrows furrowed making Melanie let out a short laugh and clapped her hands.

"See not even Wills knows about it!  That's how lame it is.  I'll talk to you in a few, Mads," Melanie told her best friend.  "See ya, Wills!" She waved at the prince and he waved back with a smile.

"I should probably turn in," Madison pouted as she looked at the clock that was on the night stand and seeing that it was almost midnight.  "We have an early practice tomorrow."

"All right," he understood completely.  "I hope you have a good practice and I love you."

"I love you too," she blew a kiss at him and closed her laptop.

Thankfully, Madison had seen William a couple of months ago back in June as they were celebrating his birthday.  They just spent it in London as he took her to his favorite places.  He had taken her to his favorite whole in the wall restaurant there.  He loved going to it every time she visited because no one there cared if he was royal.  They treated him like he was normal.

Most of their dates right now consisted of zoom calls either chatting, eating, or watching their favorite show or movie together.  It helped ease the pain in their hearts they got anytime they had to go without months of seeing each other.  They supposed that was one of the reasons why they haven't really shown the public that they were dating yet was because each time they were able to spend with each other was valuable.

She was staying in the Olympic village with her team and thought it was so cool.  She had taken so many pictures and sent them to family, friends and William.

It was practice time and she made sure to grab her snacks, water bottle as well as some Gatorade that she put in her backpack they had gifted her.  When she was at the Olympics especially, she always tried to eat healthy because it made her feel better and helped her perform even better as well.  Though, she was known to cheat with her meals sometimes.

She was only human.

"Girl, he's hot.  How the hell did you score a prince?  That's better than winning the damn Olympics!"

Madison laughed left with her team, she got her vlogging camera and started to record them leaving the village and going to the gym.

"Say hi to my subscribers Mel," Madison said to Melanie.

"Hey everyone," she waved to the camera and laughed.  "Subscribe if you want to see more Olympic footage."

Melanie was Madison's best friend on the team.  They basically had grown up together from being on the team with each other when they were younger and were considered the "grandma's."  They had been through it all.  They had seen each other at their worst and at their best.

They were in their leotards that were white with rhinestones on them.  One thing that Madison always loved about gymnastics was their uniforms.  The leotards were so much fun because she felt like they really expressed themselves.  She made sure to stretch before she went over to the bucket and chalked her hands as well as her thighs to practice bars.

It's here!  I hope you guys are excited for this :).  Whenever I write Madison I want to write Evelyn's name lol.  The first chapter is shortish but they will be longer.

I decided to have them already dating.  But you guys the drama in this book I'm so excited to write.

I am making no promises on when the next update will be because this is not going to be my main focus but it's just been a fun thing I've wanted to write since watching the Olympics.  By the way, how amazing is Suni Lee?  Happy she won gold for herself and America!
