When you begin your designing journey, a lot of words will come up that you may be unfamiliar with.

Some of the definitions came from MobileGraphics as they explained it better than I can.

𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗲- a genre is a category that someone puts their art or story into. For example, the fantasy genre is related to magic, mythology and anything that isn't from the human world, some concepts will most likely stay the same but they may be exaggerated.

𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗰𝘀- a form of digital art. This includes book covers, banners, profile pictures and headers (also known as themes) and logos.

𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲𝘀- themes are your Wattpad profile pictures and headers. They're often aesthetically pleasing and the profile and header match (I know mine don't but shush).

𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗸- Stock images are royalty-free photos that can be licensed by companies and individuals in lieu of hiring a professional photographer or graphic designer. They're almost always free for personal use.

𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻- a fancy word for credit. "Attribution, in copyright law, is acknowledgement as credit to the copyright holder or author of a work." For example, if someone (or a stock website/app) says attribution required (or something similar), it means you have to give credit to the original owner. If it says "no attribution required", it means you don't have to give credit but it's always nice to do it.

(Quote from Wikipedia)

𝗧𝗲𝘅𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀- A texture is defined as the surface characteristics of your image. In design, you can utilize textures such as cloth and brickwork to mirror the visual appearance of the actual texture.

𝗣𝗻𝗴𝘀- a png stands for Portable Network Graphics. It's a single image which can come with a transparent background.

𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆- visibility is about whether the text, main focus and other important elements are easily identifiable and readable.

𝗧𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗽- where text is randomly placed on a graphic. This is mostly done in the beginning stages of designing.

𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰/𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗺- this is a simple design, often only having one picture with nice typography. Minimalism is a simple graphic done with style.

𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻- this is where multiple images are combined to make one graphic. They're often well blended.

𝗧𝘆𝗽𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝘆- this is where you place text in a readable manner. Typography graphics focus solely on the text itself.

𝗕𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 (𝙨𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙘)- this is when multiple images are used to make a border less collage. Textures, pngs and large amounts of colouring are often used.

𝗕𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 (𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙥𝙪𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙)- where you make two or more separate images appear to be part of the same scene.

𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻/𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁- the layout of your graphic and it's used to describe the design of the graphic. For example, your text is to the left and the model is on the right.

𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴- lighting is part of the blending process. It's a crucial way of making elements look related. It can consist of glow. For example, a street lamp will be emitting light and anything near it (other objects, models etc) are effected by it.

𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗱𝗼𝘄𝘀- shadows relates to lighting. This is used to darken certain parts of a graphic to make the blending more consistent.

𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗲- a base is the raw background of your graphic with no text on it.

𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵- the finish is the overall graphic which has the base and the text and any extra effects that you add.
