Part 70
Please don't come at me for the court scene. Again, I am not a lawyer nor I know anything about US law system. This is purely imagination and alternate universe.
Alex decides to drown his sorrow at the bar close to his parents house later that evening but he couldn't down himself for the third glass of whiskey before he scrolls through his phone, more specifically his phone gallery. He couldn't hide the smile crept up on his lips when he saw pictures of Henry that starts flooding his albums about couple of weeks now.
It was mostly pictures of Henry sleeping, talking, pictures of Henry with Luke and favorite of it all was the picture of Henry's smiling his sheepish smile with his head throw back especially at Alex's lame joke. He didn't realized he had scroll far enough when he noticed one of few memory he had left of him and Henry ten years back.
It was picture of Henry and Hope sleeping wearing one of Alex's many hoodie that Henry still kept with him. He didn't realized the tears began flooding back in his eyes as he stares at Henry's side of the face with his eyes closed and Hope wrapping her tiny palm over Henry's finger.
Alex sighed longly putting his phone back into his coat pocket before he asks the bartender for his bill. After he paid, he decides to walk home to his parents house seeing Luke is there as well. His mind wanders thinking about Henry back at the hospital and he juggled whether or not he should go back there or stay at home tonight. But the further he walked, the closer he got to his parents house and the idea of going back to the hospital seems distant now.
He stares at the front door tiredly before taking his seat over the steps sighing desperately in his tiredness. His mind clutters with lots of things going on in his life right now. Starting with Henry, now with Luke, he couldn't put his mind to ease the mess that cluttering inside his brain.
He pulled out his phone again tapping on the screen before his thumb pressed on Henry's number. He cursed himself for calling him when he knows Henry needed his rest but he had to hear his voice. He didn't want to leave the way he did and regretted it in the morning.
It took him longer than usual before Henry answered and Alex was about to burst in asking him why it took him this long to answer but he decides against it. He waited on the line listening to Henry breaths out before he speak, "Hello?"
His voice hinted sadness, croaked, probably tired or groggy due to the pain meds they had been given him and it made Alex felt guilty about leaving him all alone in the hospital. "Hey." Alex replied and he could hear Henry sighed on the other line. Alex heard rustling probably Henry settling into more comfortable position. "Hey." Henry replied tiredly breathing out of relief.
"I'm sorry." They both said at the same time before they both chuckled at themselves.
"Alex." Henry called softly and Alex could give up anything in the world right now just so he could hear Henry's voice calling him thousand times over.
"Yeah baby." He replied feeling a smile crept on Henry's lips when he calls him that.
"We have to protect Luke at all cost. Don't let him take Luke away from us. He's our son. No matter what. Promise me." Henry whisper and Alex could feel his chest tightening at Henry's word mentioning Luke is their son.
"I promise. I will do everything for us to be a family. But I need you to be alright Hen. I can't do this alone. I need you baby." Alex whispered pressing his phone closer to his ear letting a tear slides down on his cheek.
"I love you so much Alex. I'm so sorry for putting this burden on you. I'm sorry for everything I did. I never meant to hurt you." Henry voice breaks and Alex bet Henry had tears streaming down his face just like he did right now.
"Stop apologizing Hen. I'm sorry for being a dick." Alex could hear the soft scoffed from Henry and he imagined the soft smile creeping on his face.
"Get some rest baby, I'll see you tomorrow morning alright?" Alex told him and Henry hummed. Another rustled coming from his side.
"Keep talking until I feel asleep. Your voice soothes me." Henry pleads and Alex smirked pressing his lips together. "Sure thing Mr Fox." Alex says growling in deeper tone before Henry breaks into a laughter. "Not that voice Marlboro man." Henry whines and Alex laughed.
They talked for a few more minutes before Alex noticed the slurred in Henry's tone and later Alex heard a soft snores coming out of Henry's side. He smiles listening to his heart monitors beeping settling a little peace inside his heart knowing Henry is all right. "Good night my prince. I love you so so much." Alex whispered before he ended the call and finally stepped inside his parent's home.
Alex stepped into the quiet home with half of the light lit from the living room and he sighed plopping himself down on the couch. He stares at the picture frame by the floating shelves of his parents wedding photo and smiled crept on his face. He couldn't wait to have that particular sets of photo of him and Henry being married together soon.
"Alex." A soft voice breaks behind him bringing his attention back into the living room. He turned his head to the side to find Luke standing by the corner in the dark hallways staring at him with guilt all over his face.
"Luke? What are you doing up? Its late." He says sitting himself straight knowing the rest of the house already fell asleep but it seems Luke is wide awake. "Couldn't sleep, dreams." He whispered with his eyes set lower on the floor beneath him.
"Come here." He gestured with his palm out and Luke run into his arm before settling himself on the couch next to him.
"Is Henry alright?" Luke asks. "He's alright, I'll bring you to see him in the morning. I promise." Alex says wrapping his arm tighter around Luke's closed to his side. Luke tilted his head up to meet his gaze, "I'm sorry." Luke whispered with his small voice breaking. "For what Luke?" Alex asks surprised by his sudden apologies. "For what I said at the hospital." Alex shifted his body to face Luke better on his side.
"Luke, listen to me." Alex pulled his chin to face Alex and he noticed the glistening tears in Luke's eyes.
"Don't you ever think for once that what you did is wrong Luke. You are protecting Henry more than I ever did. I should be more thankful that someone cares about him as equally as I did." Alex could see the tears fell on Luke's temple. Alex raised his thumb wiping the tears away with a soft smile on his face.
"I care about you too. I'm sorry I hurt you." Luke's lips trembled before Alex pulls him closer resting his chin over Luke's head. "Don't be sorry. I was a jerk to Henry earlier. I needed to take a beat and you made me realized that." Alex stroked his arm up and down for comfort and Luke sighed in his embrace.
"Alex." Luke calls again. He hummed in response still resting his chin over Luke's head.
"Promise you won't let Father Kostas take me back there?" Alex pulled back from their embrace facing Luke staring at him with hope glistening in his eyes, "I promise Luke. I will try my best." He says pulling him back into his embrace and Luke sniffed his tears wrapping his arm tighter around Alex's waist.
.
Alex wasn't wrong when he said the trial is the hardest thing for him. The minute they had agreed to put Luke on trial for his emancipation, he regretted his decision. The look on Luke's face when he was questions hundreds of things starting on the day of his disappearance made Alex want to take Henry suggestion in taking Luke far away from here.
Today was the third day of trial hopefully the last one and he had Luke glued to his hips every seconds and every minute in hope that it would gives him the sense of safety. They were gathered outside the courtroom talking to Oscar and Ellen waiting to be called inside when he felt the tightening grip by Luke's small hands over his wrist.
He turned to see Luke had his eyes set behind him when Alex turned to see it was Father Kostas walking towards them. Alex shields Luke behind him with his parents behind them engaging into conversation unrealized about their encounter. "Boys." He greeted them before his eyes set at Luke hiding behind Alex.
"Luke. Don't get too comfortable. You're coming home with me soon enough." Father Kostas told him with his finger pointed at Luke and Alex had to step in. "In your dreams." Alex's words seethed through his teeth. His feet stood firm on the ground but he could feel Father Kostas inching closer towards him.
"You think the court would turn a blind eye on queer like you or a respectable Christian like mine? Think again boy. You won't win this, he is mine." He whispers and Alex swallowed his throat not wanting to acknowledge how much truth he had in his words. He could feel the firm tight on his fingers knowing Luke is scared when he heard him.
"You think God would? It's enough what you did to him. You don't need him, why would you bother fighting for him in court?" Alex asks more obvious questions and he could see the smirk formed on his dry wrinkled skin.
"Because I have something waiting for him when he comes home. He needs to be punished for what he did." He whispered into Alex's ear and he could sworn he seen red when he heard but the problem was it was only him who heard it. His parents are talking to someone behind him and he doubt Luke would be any reliable witness.
"I will make sure you don't lay a hand on him. Better yet, go fuck yourself." Alex pushed Father Kostas by his chest that had become too close that made Alex wanted to vomit at his scent.
"That's an assault Mr Diaz." He says still smirking at Alex.
"Put it in the trial, who gives a crap." He says trying to pull Luke away from him but Father Kostas pulled Alex back by his elbow.
"You know how today will go and let me tell you as soon as I get my hands on him, boy, he better wished he didn't." He could see his words fuming Alex into rage and if it wasn't for Luke clutching to his side, he might have gone differently. It might not be what he had in mind which is a bullet to his brain but at least blood seeping through his fucking filthy mouth for threatening him.
"If you fucking dare touch a hair on his head, I will make sure you had reunion with your son in hell sooner than you expected!" The voice came behind Father Kostas and Alex eyebrow furrowed at the familiarity of that voice.
He turned cocking his head to the side to see Henry stood behind Father Kostas in his glorious fucking expensive suit looking handsome as the devil himself. His lips curved into a smile when he sees him standing with his shoulder fixed firmly and Luke escaped from his grip to Henry's side.
"Pathetic. Both of you." Father Kostas said staring at both Henry and Alex with pure disgust on his face right before he left.
Alex smiled grew wider when he sees Henry standing few feet away from him and his feet paced hurriedly before he cupped Henry's face in his hand and crashed their lips together. Henry huffed in shocked when Alex's mouth sealed into his but soon relaxed in his touch returning the calming touch with his one free hand while the other still clutching Luke's next to him.
"I can't say this out loud but I wanna fucking rip your clothes off right here right now." Alex whispered into his ear and Henry scoffed pushing him back by his chest blushing in redness and Alex laughed.
"What are you doing here? You should be resting." Alex says when he finally realized. "I'm done resting. I got myself discharged so I can be here, for you. Both of you." Henry looked down on his side to meet Luke's gaze smiling as he looked up.
"Mi familia." Alex whispered wrapping himself around Henry and sighed before he pressed his lips over Henry's temple.
"Henry?" Ellen voice breaks them from hugging each other when she finally realized him standing in the midst of the crowd hugging Alex and Luke by his side. "What the hell are you doing here? You supposed to be in bed." She half yelled but Alex knew she meant it in a motherly way.
"I won't miss this Ellen. I need to be there for him. For both of them." Henry says smiling as he stares at his fiancé's grinning face.
.
The day dragged longer than it supposed to. The trial ended up having more complication than Alex expected and each time the judge dismissed their side of argument, he turned to face Henry behind him in disbelief look.
"We have ourselves an unjustifiable judge, we might lose this." Alex whispered before he objectifying another arguments from the other side. "Your honor you seriously don't think that this guy portrays symbol of loving respectable man of the community after hoarding the truth about his son inexplicit activities?" Alex made his argument.
Judge Coleman is ruthless in court especially that he is well known for being a homophobic bigot and the crowd knew him well. "Mr Claremont a son's sin is not to be punished along with his father. That is a shame and atrocious accusation since you had no proof over that matter!" He says as he banged the gavel.
"Accusation? It's in the report and also confession by the victim himself!" Alex defends back.
"A word from a child doesn't proof anything. No residue of semen or any DNA over his body to say that Jeremiah Kostas actually raped him." Alex could feel his whole world starts to shrink down when he knew where this is going.
"Your honor-"
"Sit down Mr Claremont!" He yells and Alex is fuming by now.
"It's Claremont-Diaz!" Alex yells turning all of their heads towards him.
"I don't fucking care. One more word and I will held you in contempt." Judge Coleman yells back and Alex held back his breath feeling himself defeated by the seconds.
He watched the argument continues and the Judge continued to protect Father Kostas each time they make a statement.
"Paps." Alex gripped Oscar's hand from under the table and Oscar could see the brimming tears in his eyes, "Alex, suck it up. I told you if you're gonna show emotion like this, you can't be Luke's lawyer." Oscar whispered and Alex turned his gaze towards Henry sitting behind him. He already had himself leaned forward gripping Alex's shoulder in assurance.
"It's okay, it's not over yet. You got this." Henry says before he pressed his lips over Alex's temple knowing how much it devastated Alex by now. He sighed in relief feeling the soothing calm from Henry's grip before his eyes turned into Luke's worried one.
"Your honor if I may." Oscar interject turning Alex's focus back into the court. "If I may asks. If Father Kostas is so valiantly a role model in the community, how would you explained to the jury about this." Oscar handed photos printed over Luke's photographed scars on his back, his legs, his arms and some on his stomach. There are burnt marks, whipping marks, even old scar that seems to be years old on his body. He could see the jury responses with hisses and gasped as the photo passed around the cubicle.
"It's character building. The boy came from a very dysfunctional home and it made him a bit of rebellious. He needed to be taught on discipline and that if you break the rule, you get punished." He said so dismissive as if it was the right thing to do.
"What punishment that you gave to a nine year old to deserve such marks?" He asks and Father Kostas edging in his seat.
"Stealing. That is one of major sin in our church law. You should know that although being a devoted Catholic yourself, I don't need to explain myself." Father Kostas tempted when he sees the necklace hanging from Oscar's neck.
Alex could see how it angered Oscar and his fist balled up on his side.
"Did you punished your son for running away with a minor and performed adultery with same sex gender or no less. I'm sure it mentioned somewhere in your bible." He spat back and Father Kostas clenched his jaw tight in anger.
"My son was sick and he was tricked into making those sins with him. Nothing more." He says and Oscar scoffed. "Keep telling yourself that. Whatever helps you sleep at night." He knew it was lame attempt but he was satisfied enough when he sees it rages Father Kostas to an end before taking his seat.
"Does the defense want to make a final statement before we take a short break to convene the final decision?" Judge Coleman asks and Alex stood abruptly. "Your honor if I may?" He asks and he can see judge Coleman sighed flicking his wrist to allow him.
"Honored jury. I know few of you might have children, nephew, nieces. I want to let you see that no child should ever grow in such unstable environment doesn't matter how damaged they are over their haunted pasts. We shouldn't be judging people by their pasts anyway." Alex made his first moves inching closer to the jury cubicle.
"I have witness on hand what injustice did to my fiancé. How it disturbed him for years in recovery. How it damaged his mental ability to function in society after what happened." He turned to look at Henry sitting next to Luke and his mum and remembered the exact moment he was called in stand decades ago while he fought for his life at the hospital.
"But then I get to see him recovered into the most functional man in society because of the helped of such loving family. I do believe that love and care would build character as equal as giving punishments. What Luke Vilkas had endured is beyond what we could have for ourselves. If you believe that going back to the place where his source of torment originally came from, then I have zero faith in our law system and our humanity in protecting each other." Alex could hear murmur in the courtroom when he finished his statement and turned to take his seat next to Oscar.
"We will meet here again at four." Judge Coleman banged his gavel and stood furiously before he disappeared into his chambers.
Alex stood and turned to face Henry that also stood before he wrapped his arm around Alex's back resting his chin over his shoulder. "I tried. I'm sorry." He whispered not wanting Luke to hear him but Henry stroke his back softly to comfort him. "Shh it's okay. We'll see what he decides."
.
They waited patiently for the judge to return and when he did, they all stood before he dismissed them. "Right, I have the final decision in my hand." He says pulling out his papers and placed the glasses over the tip of his nose before he reads the results.
"As for today, Luke Vilkas, you shall returned to Church of St Francis and paid your dues to the church and to Father Kostas for the damaged you have cost and stayed there until your age turned eighteen. Disobeyed and run away again you shall be caught and placed under juvenile correction facility." The gavel banged and the whole crowd murmured and not too mention Henry and Alex gasped at their lost with Henry clutching on Luke's side.
"NO! No! I don't want to go back! Don't let them take me! You PROMISED me! You said they won't take me back!" Luke yelled pushing Henry's off from hugging him and starts to escape but he was caught by the bailiff holding on to him. "Don't hurt him, please." Henry begs pulling Luke away from him but the bailiff was a lot stronger so he pushed Henry off and he stumbled over the ground. "Henry!" Alex rushed to his side helping him up and he clutched his chest in pain.
"LET ME GO!" Luke yells behind him and Henry couldn't help shedding tears letting Alex helped him up from the floor.
"Dad! Don't let them take me! Paps! Please!" Luke yelled making Alex charged forward pushing the bailiff from holding on to Luke. The moment his grip loosen, Luke runs toward Henry wrapping his arm over his waist.
"Please don't let them take me!" He cried hanging on to Henry like his life depend on it. "Dad please." He whispered and Henry gasped when he heard Luke called him that.
"I'm so sorry Luke. I tried. I'm so sorry." Henry whispered brushing his blonde hair back. "NO!" Luke pushed off Henry and ran towards the jury cubicle standing right in front of them and his eyes won't peeled away from staring at Judge Coleman with hatred fill his eyes. "You want to send me back?! You will have to send my dead body!" Luke yelled at him before he unbuttoned his shirt off.
"You wanna know what punishment he did to me?!" Luke yelled and Alex and Henry with the rest of the people in the courtroom stood there in silence but gasped filled the air when he saw Luke's marked body.
"This is when I spilled the water!" He pointed at his arm.
"This is when I was late to a service because I had a fever!"
"This is when I refused to eat because the food is too disgusting to eat!"
"This is when I talk back for defending my dead mother!"
"This is when I rolled my eyes at his hypocrisy!"
"This is when I couldn't get up for chores because I was locked in a basement chained up for days and left to starve!" He yelled over the scar he had pointed and both Alex and Henry had tears in their eyes when he sees Luke kept yelling at the scars over his body.
"And this!" He pointed at his lower back that had a knife like cut over his pale skin. "This is when I refused to suck his cock under the table!" He says and the jury gasped turning their gaze at Father Kostas edging towards the exit.
"Mental illness my ass, your son inherited your filthy behavior because a demon seed is a demon seed!" Luke yelled and Henry gasped holding on to Alex's at Luke's defending himself from Father Kostas.
"You fucking whore!" Father Kostas charged forward wanting to hurt Luke but Alex beat him to it. He grabbed Father Kostas by his wrist and twisted him back before slamming him on the ground with the bailiff on his tail ready to cuff him.
Henry ran towards Luke putting his clothes back on before he wrapped his arm around Luke's frail body.
"Sir, you are under arrest for having sexual act with a minor." The police took him from Alex's grip reading his miranda rights and Father Kostas fought from their grip. "You bitch! I should have killed you when I had the chance!" He yells as the police took him away and Alex rushed to Henry holding on to Luke.
"Are you okay?" He cupped Henry's cheek in his palm and he nods weakly knowing why he was concerned after he took the fall.
"Luke I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." Alex crouched before him but Luke who had tears in his eyes turned to wrap himself around Alex neck and he lifted him off the floor. "Oh mi cariño." Alex whispered pulling Henry into his chest as he wrapped himself around them both with Luke in the middle.
"Mr Diaz, my chambers, NOW." Judge Coleman signed for them to join him at his office before putting Luke down on the floor and leaned to kiss Henry over his lips. "Wait for me outside. I'll be right out." He whispered before planting more kisses over Henry's lips and later on Luke's head.
Ellen pulled Henry and Luke towards the bench while they waited for Oscar and Alex discussing about the turn on this case.
.
"I don't appreciate the act that was showed in my courtroom." Judge Coleman starts and Alex is already fuming at this guy oblivious idiot.
"Act? Why do you think that we practiced this before we came?" He yells and Judge Coleman looked up from his desk towards Alex. "Need I remind you that I'm still the judge and I can do whatever I want over you Mr Claremont? I can even take your license away and you won't be practicing law in any state." He threats and Alex scoffed. But before he could make the come back, the door barged opened and Alex gasped at the person stepped inside.
"Your off the case Coleman, I'm taking over!" The southern growl that came out of him felt like a relief and Alex gasped before he rushed towards the six foot Texan stood in front of him. "Judge Steven." Alex whispered before wrapping his arm around his neck and the judge laughs at his gestured. "Good to see you my boy." He taps on his back seeing how much Alex had grown and after all the years they hadn't see each other, it was finally worth the reunion.
"H-How? I mean- can you switched judge like this?" Alex asks clueless and see Oscar smiling behind him with his one hand inside his pants pocket.
"I called him in favor. Turns out he's here all along." He says and Alex turned to face Judge Steven again. "I have been tracking your career ever since you graduated. Too bad I couldn't guide you under my wing but Oscar here is equally talented to guide you so I watched from far."
Alex turned his head sharply at Oscar still in disbelief. "We kept in touch after Henry's case. We became buds." He says and Alex smiled grew wider with more tears in his eyes.
"Well I am senior judge and when I see that the current judge is acting out of omission, I had to step up." Judge Steven says stepping closer to the desk with Judge Coleman sitting behind fidgeting in his seat.
"How much did he pay you to win the case?" He asks abruptly and Alex turned in shock. "What? How dare you Steven!" Judge Coleman stood up and little did he expected was being slapped by Judge Steven over his face.
"How much did he pay you or shall I put out to the detectives to find it out for me?" He asks again and this time Alex can see Judge Coleman trembling in fear. "Please, I have a family." He start but Judge Steven won't take crocodile tears.
"Everyone does. Everyone that you put in jail and all the money you took from the gang members to send someone into jail also had family they left behind to suffer because you acted of omission. Do you ever think you don't get caught one day?" He asks and the trembled continued and for once Alex couldn't feel anymore satisfied.
"From here now on, Luke Vilkas belonged to you." Judge Steven handed Alex the paper he had drafted for Luke and surprised Judge Steven had it. He turned to see Oscar smiling at him. "I saw you drafted that a week ago and couldn't get a judge to sign for release until this trial is over. I had to step up." Oscar says and Alex broke in more tears before he wrapped himself around Oscar. "Thanks paps." He mumbles shuddering in tears.
"Did you hear? You're a papa now. Luke called you Paps earlier." He said and Alex breaks into a soft laugh pulling away from his hug. "I think it's moment of weakness. I can't wait to show this to Henry." He says reading the paper in his hand and gave Judge Steven another hug.
"Go. Tell him. We have more business here to settle with this weasel." Judge Steven says pushing Alex out of the room with a smile on his face.
.
Henry was busy on his phone typing violently by the keypad and didn't even realized Alex is approaching. "Where's you father?" Ellen asks him seeing he returned alone and Henry looked up to meet his gaze surprised by his smile. "He's coming, later. He's busy right now." Alex says kneeling right before Henry and Luke by the bench.
"Doing what?" Ellen asks worried.
"Catching up with an old pal." Alex says briefly before he pulled out the papers that Judge Steven had signed before he gave it to Luke.
Luke whom still had tears in his eyes seems couldn't stop crying since earlier. He grabbed the paper from Alex's hand and starts reading it. His eyes widen with a gasped before he broke into more tears. "You're free darling. Make all the decision you want. You're a Fox-Claremont-Diaz from now on." He says and Henry gasped grabbing the paper from Luke's hand and starts reading the words over the pages. Luke wrapped his arm around his neck shuddering into more sobs.
"Wait, Judge Steven? Why is that name so familiar?" He asks and Alex smiled pulling Luke from his hug. "Your old case judge. Apparently he and paps has been friends since after your trial. He had been following up about me through paps. He took over the case and we are right, Judge Coleman is dirty so he had to take over base on seniority." He says and Henry sighed in relief.
"So it's over?" He asks and Alex smiled nodding. "It's over babe." He pulled Henry by his neck and pressed their lips for a kiss.
"I love you so much Alex." Henry whispered with their forehead leaned before Alex pressed his lips for another kiss.
"I love you more Hen." He whispered back.
.
Alex refused for Henry to go back to the hotel alone especially when he was not supposed to be discharge. They fought- again about Alex wanting to bring him back to the hospital just in case after he took the fall earlier. But the argument settles when Ellen offers for Henry to stay at their place instead until he gets better.
So here they are in the living room with Oscar cooking in the kitchen and Henry laid over Alex's lap with the widest smile on his face. Luke is in the kitchen helping with Oscar and his dinner, their dinner while Ellen sat there and watched how the duo works like liquid.
"Thank you." Henry whispers with his eyes close feeling Alex's long fingers brushes into his blonde hair. "I promised and I delivered lover." He says and Henry chuckling at his word. "I know." Henry smile staring at Alex smirking at him before he leaned down and pressed his lips on Henry's thick luscious one.
They were interrupted when the door bell rings and Alex heard his mother offers to open the door so Henry won't have to wake up from Alex's lap. But when she walked back to the living room with Judge Steven following behind her, Henry raised himself with a small winced over his chest.
"Stay boy. I heard you had surgery." Judge Steven stopped Henry but he already is on his feet striding towards him. "How can I when I need to thank you for everything that you did for us today." Henry says putting his hand out for a shake. Judge Steven cocked his head towards Alex standing behind Henry protectively.
"Seriously. You're marrying this guy? Have you taught him anything?" Judge Steven serious tone pulling Henry from shaking his hand. He turned to see Alex shared the same confused look on his face.
"Gringo, in Texas we don't shake hands with family, we hug." He says putting his arm out for Henry before he breaks into a smile and let Judge Steven hugged him. "We don't call family gringo either." Alex adds with a smile on his face.
"Well until you put some Texan-mexican influenced in him, he's still a gringo." Judge Steven says and Alex smirked, "I put a lot more than that in him." Henry smacked his chest earning him a yelped feeling embarrassed by his gesture. "Stop, we got children present now. So watch your filthy mouth Alexander." Henry warned him but Alex couldn't helped smiling sheepishly by Henry's blushed.
"I want to thank you for everything you did Judge." Henry continues turning his gaze back to Judge Steven standing before him. "Not just today but back then when I was-" Henry paused lowering his gaze on his clutched hands and he felt Judge Steven raised his palm over Henry's shoulder.
"I'm here for a reason Henry. Back then when we lost your case, I was devastated. I thought we had everything in our hand and still when the jury announced it, I felt like I failed you son." He squeezed Henry's shoulder and Henry could hear a break in his voice.
"Which is why when I heard about this case and what happened to Luke, I followed each details so I won't miss it like I did with yours." Henry inhaled sharply curving his lips into a smile before he thanked him again. "Thank you judge, Luke won't be here with us today if it wasn't for you." Henry says and just on cue, Luke came in from the kitchen wrapping his arm around Henry's waist and nuzzled his nose into Henry's scent over his dress shirt.
"We are not in courtroom, call me Carlos." Judge Steven says and Henry smiled stroking Luke's hair back. "Luke, this is the judge that save your life. You might wanna thank him." Henry whispered and Luke looked up to meet Judge Steven's face,
"Thank you." Luke whispered before he wrapped his arm around Judge Stevens protruding belly barely covering his arms to enclose his hug. Carlos smiled tapping his back for his gestured knowing how painful it was to see him defend himself today.
"I'm just glad you found this family Luke. By the way, you can change your name now and made it legally. What you had in mind?" He asks as Luke pulled away from their hug and continued to hug Henry as they stares at him. He shook his head hasn't decide on anything just yet.
"You don't have to change anything Luke. Its your choice." Henry says and Luke looked up meeting his soft gaze feeling Henry's soft fingers brushing his hair as he nods.
"Oi! How dare you came to my house empty handed?" Oscar voice breaks them from their moment and Carlos scoffed. "What makes you think I did?" He asks and Carlos stepped back pulling his brown bag he had earlier and handed him a bottle of whiskey in his hand. "Finest in the house." He says handing it to Oscar and he smiled widely before they hugged each other.
"Dinner's ready." Oscar says and they all joined by the dining table sets for them.
Alex couldn't be anymore happier seeing Henry sitting next to him and Luke by his side eating his national dish made by his father. His mother laughing at Oscar and Carlos banter over the cut steak and Henry laughs hysterically at Luke attempt to chew on the ribs with smudges over his face.
"All I'm saying is that lucky I'm still fully dressed before I ran off from there. Imagined being chased by her dog half naked." The whole table breaks into a laugh over Carlos stories and Henry turned to look at Alex. "A dog would be nice for him don't you think?" He asks and Alex sighed pouring himself a drink with a raised brow. "See now? Because of you we had to get a dog." He says sipping into his drinks. Henry slapped him again over his chest glaring at Alex besides him.
"I'm just asking. It's good companion and loyal. I didn't say go and get him the dog." Henry defends and Alex laughs still had his arm over the back of Henry chair leaning his body to face him. "Darling you wanna a dog, l'll get you a dog. No big deal." Alex says with a smile and Henry shook his head at him.
"I don't want a dog. I'm just saying-"
"We're getting a dog."
"We're not getting a dog!"
"Oh we are getting a dog. Once your mind set to it, we are doing it." Alex banter.
"I didn't set my mind on anything." Henry fought back and they started arguing again.
"Oh really? So you don't want a dog then?" Alex asks and Henry huffed.
"Maybe. I don't know." Henry says and Alex breaks into a smile, "You're so cute when you're indecisive." He says planting a kiss over Henry's temple.
"A dog might be a good companion but Henry you gotta make sure you are strong enough cause it's a lot of responsibilities. I don't want you passing out when walking the damn thing." Ellen adds not wanting Henry to get hurt in the process.
"You could get a service dog." Luke adds and they all turned to look at him.
"That's an excellent idea Luke. Service dog is much more well trained and they are independent. Have you had experience with any of them?" Carlos asks and Luke lowered his gaze down.
"Luke?" Henry asks seeing how silence he became.
"One of the client, he had service dog because he was an army veteran. He let me played with it sometimes, you know- after." Henry drops his fork over the plate making a loud clanking sound before his head turned to face Alex next to him.
"Excuse me." Henry says before he leaves the table and headed outside leaving the table in stunt silence.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't said anything." Luke apologized but Alex shook his head at him. "No Luke. It wasn't your fault. I'll make sure he's alright." He says before he followed Henry where he had disappeared into.
Alex noticed Henry disappeared into the backyard when he joined him. He saw him sitting by the porch steps with his back facing Alex.
Alex sighed sitting himself down on the steps with Henry staring into the darkness of the night. "Sorry, I just need to clear my head." He says whispering and Alex didn't say anything else except pulling Henry closer. He rested his head over Alex's shoulder nuzzling his nose deep into the crook of Alex neck as his arm wrapped around Henry's waist.
"He's gone through a lot Henry. But he is stronger than we think. If he wants to talk about it, let him. But don't disappear like that. It made him feels guilty whenever he opened up about his past and he didn't want you to worry." Alex told him and he could hear sniffed coming from him.
"I know but it was hard for me to hear. What kind of person who would do that to a child?" He asks breaking into more sobs. "I know baby. World is a cruel place to live. But we can't save them all." He continued and Henry sighed wrapping his arm tighter around Alex's waist.
They stayed there for couple more minutes before Henry broke the silence. "Did you hear him called us paps and dad at the courtroom?" He asks suddenly and Alex smiled. "Yeah, still hadn't my head wrapped around it." He says feeling Henry looked up to meet his gaze.
"We made it." Henry whisper and Alex smiled.
"We won." Alex continued.
"We won." Henry repeats before their lips sealed into a kiss.
