jieun could feel her cheeks burning from the heat of the sun. they stayed outside for hours, talking, laughing, taking pictures. pretty much all of the food was gone too, the both of them feeling so full it was almost sickening. they were having so much fun just enjoying each others company with the sun beaming down on them.
the girl moved to sit against the tree, letting the shade cover her fully before her face could get anymore burnt. jisungs head found his way on top of her legs comfortably as he intertwined his own fingers with hers and played with them while they talked.
"i think the sun is starting to set." she pointed out, noticed how a very light shade of pink began to form under the sun, along with a nice breeze following after.
jisung gasped, turning his head, "is it? we've been here for that long?" he found himself sulking, his bottom lip pointing out a little bit as he realized the night was soon coming to an end.
"come on," after quickly checking his phone to see the time reaching eight, he sat up and dusted himself off before grabbing jieuns hands and pulling her up. "i have another thing planned for us."
jieuns head went back in surprise. "oh?"
she couldn't believe this wasn't the end of their date. jisung had already put in so much effort making everything perfect for her, the fact that he had more in store was astonishing.
his hand didn't fall out of hers as he guided her to his car, the butterflies reappearing in her stomach at the way he refused to let go of her hand. it was such a small act of affection but she wasn't used to it, jisung didn't even realize he held her hand tightly because he just felt so comfortable with her. even when he carried both the picnic blanket and basket in one hand, he easily could've used both hands, but chose not to.
the two of them got into the car eagerly, excited for the next part of their date. adrenaline still flowed throughout their bodies, something about each others presence that made everything so much more exhilarating. i guess it was just two teenagers falling so deeply in love with each other.
silence engulfed another short ride, no music playing this time. just the sound of wind as both of their windows had been rolled down. it didn't take long for a drive-in movie theater came into sight.
jieun gasped, "oh my god, i love these! i haven't been to one in so long."
"i know," jisung grinned, "minhee told me."
her face going from excitement to confusion, she swiftly turned her head in his direction. "you asked minhee on where to take me?"
"of course. i was not about to mess this up, and i also happen to love drive-in movie theaters."
"park, you really are the standard."
it being a friday summer night, the place was pretty packed. it took a good five minutes to find a decent parking spot where they could see the movie clearly, settling with what jieun referred to as, 'as good as it's gonna get' before quickly getting out and heading to the trunk of the car.
the breeze already begun to get stronger as the sun kept going down. the light pink in the sky turned into a mix of red, orange, and blue, as the sun peaked out just a tiny bit in their view. a visible shiver hit jieuns body, feeling cold now as she began to regret the decision of a summer dress.
jisung noticed it immediately. "are you cold? i have a sweatshirt back here, and sweatpants too, i think." he gave no time for the girl to respond as he grabbed said sweatshirt from the back of his truck.
jieun sat at the edge, swinging her feet patiently as the taller crawled back out and handed it to her. "thank you."
he sat down next to her, pulling the blanket they used at the park over the two of them comfortably. his longer legs hung over the edge next to jieuns, their arms occasionally brushing over each others. the tension was too strong and jisung could feel her constant small shivers, regardless of the thick blanket and sweatshirt that were failing to fully keep her warm.
before he got the chance to question it, jieun spoke up. "what's playing?"
"toy story," the boy replied, a grin forming at the name of one of his favorite animated movies. it was a little childish, sure, but you can never go wrong with good old toy story.
jieun chuckled lightly at the mischevious look on his face, "they still play that? i had no idea."
"me neither. jieun, i can feel you shivering."
"sorry, it's so cold. i'm alright, though.
he didn't listen to her try to reassure him that she's fine when he pulled the blanket off of his body and wrapped it around her shoulders so she was engulfed in the thick blanket. appreciating the small gesture, jieun felt too guilty leaving him bare with his thin zip-up.
"no, just—"
the girl pealed the blanket off herself, scooting even closer to jisung so there was absolutely no more space between them. he watched as she pulled it over the two of their shoulders to give them more coverage rather than it just being over their legs. while reaching her arm over and trying to ensure jisung was fully covered, he ended up losing his balance not to get in her way and the two fell backwards into the trunk.
"that's not what i wanted to happen," jisung breathed over fits of giggles between the two.
the pair now fully wrapped in wool, feeling much warmer than before, pretty much completely disregarded the movie. "i can't see the screen from here." jieun laughed.
"wanna sit up?"
"not really."
jisung was so grateful is was dark and jieun couldn't see him from that angle, because he could feel heat rushing up to his cheeks at the response and his heart beating out of his chest.
"this is kinda uncomfy though, move up." the girl suggested as the two crawled their way into the trunk fully.
her neck found its way onto jisungs arm, him taking this as an opportunity to wrap both of them around her body snuggly with his chin resting on top of her head. the both of them were admittedly flustered and nervous at the fact that this was the first time they'd done anything other than hold hands for two minutes. nerves rose through out their bodies but were eventually replaced with comfort as they laid in that position.
at this point neither of them truly cared about the movie at all as they heard it start faintly from the radio, just enjoying holding each other the way they were. nothing else ran through their minds other than each other, jisung pulling her closer the second he felt his grip loosen and giving occasional strokes in her hair. the softness of his touch easily made her practically melt in his arms, growing tired as her eyes got heavier.
before she knew it, jieun was fast asleep at the sound of jisungs breathing. he didn't know she'd fallen asleep until a minute later when he started talking about random stuff, and when she didn't respond, he gently pulled his head away to see her eyes fluttered shut and light breaths coming from her nose. he then silently laughed at himself for the fact that he was just talking to no one before pulling her closer again and allowing his own eyes to fall shut.
