day 19
...
"is this okay?" after barging into iseul and zara's rooms one by one and dragging them down to her own, she made them examine the outfit she was wearing.
"isla, it's cute, but this is your literal everyday wear." iseul said honestly.
isla huffed and dropped her arms to her side. "i don't know what to wear. i wasn't prepared to have clothes for a date."
"hang on," iseul left the room and went to her own.
zara went over the isla and brushed her hair back over her shoulders, gasping lightly. "can i do your makeup?! i mean you're already naturally pretty, but it would be so fun."
isla smiled at the girl and nodded in agreement, iseul coming back from her room holding a piece of clothing.
"here. i always come prepared." she said sternly, handing over what she was holding. isla held it up and examined the beautiful maroon sun dress she was holding.
"that is so pretty, oh my god, jeno is going to faint." zara squealed, iseul nodding, confident with her fashion choice.
isla quickly stepped out of her clothes and slipped on the dress, it fitting perfectly. she looked at herself in the mirror as her two friends swooned at how she looked in it.
"yep. you definitely wear it better than i can." iseul nodded, earning a look of disagreement from the brunette.
the two of them sat isla down as zara started her makeup, and iseul started on her hair. they kept it light and simple, something perfect for a cute summer date. as the time got closer to when isla had to leave, she felt her heartbeat getting faster and faster.
"done," iseul said, brushing her fingers through the soft curls made in her friends hair. "i should literally be a hair stylist."
"thank you guys," isla thanked, standing up from her chair. the two of them brushed her off as they would always do that for her if she needed it, urging her to leave the room and head out for her date.
as isla opened the door and began walking down the halls, xiaojun happened to turn a corner the same time as her and ending up bumping into each other.
"oh—sorry." she apologized.
"you're fine. where are you going all dressed up?" xiaojun asked, looking at her dress. "are you wearing makeup? who are you and what did you do with isla?"
isla furrowed her eyebrows, "i wear makeup... occasionally. i'm going on a date."
xiaojuns mouth parted slightly in vague shock. "oh! really? who with?"
"jeno!"
the boy nodded, "ahh, lucky guy. you look pretty, isla. have fun!"
before letting her say anything else, he passed her and left isla there with slight confusion. she scratched her head but didn't question any further and left to go find her date. it wasn't hard, because he'd been standing at the door way, fiddling with the rings on his fingers as if he was nervous.
isla felt a little bit of relief when she saw he seemed just as anxious as she was. he didn't notice she was there at first, but the floor creaked as she stepped closer, causing his eyes to go from the window outside to the girl standing there shyly.
"oh... my..."
"don't stare at me i'm shy. i feel weird."
"what? why? you look stunning, don't feel weird." jeno insisted, stepping closer to her.
isla pursed her lips and scratched the back of her head again, this time as a nervous habit, shyly thanking him. he smiled cutely at the sight of her suddenly feeling shy around him.
"okay lets gooo, i have plans for us," he urged, gently taking her hand and leading her out the door.
"hey, did you know isla's doing out on a date with jeno tonight?" xiaojun asked sicheng as he entered the room they shared together for the trip.
the older boy looked up from the tv with his eyebrows perked up, "hm? really? good for them."
hendery, who lied down on sichengs bed, scoffed loudly. "he's saying that because he likes isla and he's jealous."
"what? no i'm not. and no i don't." xiaojun persisted, eyeing the boy.
"really?" hendery asked, his eyes finally leaving his phone screen. "did you forget how well i know you? it's so obvious that you like her. too bad you missed your chance, man."
"you're delusional."
"sicheng, back me up on this one please."
"he's right, you definitely like her."
xiaojun put his hands up in defense, "okay, i'm done listening to you two."
meanwhile, just a few rooms down, haechan stood outside of yangyangs door, reciting what he planned to say in his head over and over. he'd asked his boyfriend for forgiveness, then asked him about five times if his apology sounded okay. even after being told that it was more than okay, he still felt like it wasn't enough.
haechan decided to just knock on the door, hearing yangyang shout from the other side to enter. he opened the door, seeing him, shotaro, and chenle playing a game together. upon seeing haechans face, yangyang nearly choked on air. shotaro and chenle seemed too immersed in the game, so haechan waved his hand to him, signaling he needed to speak to him.
yangyang set down the controller and got up from his spot, meeting haechan outside and shutting the door behind him.
"yeah?" he asked, crossing his arms and waiting for him to speak.
"uh," haechan started, suddenly forgetting everything he was about to say, "i had this whole speech planned but i forgot it, honestly. i'm just really, really sorry for everything. it was so fucked up of me to even do that and you have every right to ignore me forever. i'm sorry."
yangyang didn't say anything for a moment which made haechan become even more worried, but eventually he let out a laugh.
"sorry. it's not funny, it's just, it's weird seeing you apologize. it's not a bad thing, you never really had any reason to, surprisingly. i don't know." he rambled.
"but i forgive you."
haechan's head leaned forward with wide eyes at that sentence, "really? you do?"
"well, yeah. you think i have the guts ignore you forever? there's no point in holding a grudge when you acknowledge what you did is wrong. this isn't worth losing your friend over."
"you're right, and i'm also sorry i took so long to apologize. i was trying to find a good way to do it and figure out exactly what i want to say. yangyang, no matter what, you are my best friend. you had no intent to hurt me and it wasn't fair of me to do that in the first place."
yangyang smiled lightly, "i know. regardless of my feelings, i am really happy for you. you deserve each other."
back at jeno and islas date, they walked along the boardwalk together while holding hands. after a few minutes of walking and isla having no idea where she was being taken, he stopped them at a cute little restaurant.
"aw, this is cute." isla said, admiring the dim lights hanging on the outside and calming music faintly being heard from the outside.
"i'm glad you think so because we're eating here." jeno grinned, opening the door for her. it was just as beautiful on the inside as it was on the outside.
the two were seated quickly and immediately opened there menus. as isla skimmed through the food choices unbothered, jeno occasionally stole glances at her without her noticing. he was amazed she could look any prettier with her lightly curled hair and her minimal makeup.
"does any of this sound good to you?" she asked, looking up to see him already staring. "you're not even looking."
"i am."
"you're not. i can see you right now, and you're not looking."
"...sorry, what?"
isla rolled her eyes playfully and kicked his leg from under the table. "ow! a guy can't admire his date nowadays?"
isla pointed down at the menu in his hands, "look here."
