{1} Derek Hale

Stiles groaned in pain as his arm began to sting from where you hit him. "What was that for?" he asked, looking offended. "Being annoying," you replied. "Oh wow, real original," Stiles mocked, glaring at you. "Stop making fun of Scott," you instructed your brother.

Currently, you were standing in the middle of the school hallway with your twin brother, Stiles and your guys' best friend Scott McCall. Scott was a werewolf, one among many in Beacon Hills, California, and he was trying to tell his best friend about a serious werewolf problem that he was having. But, Stiles just kept making dog jokes, so you slapped him into paying attention.

"Okay, look man, here's what we'll do. After school, the three of us will go over to Derek's and ask him, okay?" Stiles asked, looking at the two of you for approval. You blushed as the mention of Derek's name. You were sort of avoiding him at the moment.

Derek was also a werewolf, and by far the hottest man you had ever seen. You had met Derek when you first found out that Scott was a werewolf. The four of you all worked together to try and track down the Alpha that turned Scott into a werewolf. Since the moment you started working with Derek, you had a crush on him.

The two of you flirted with each other constantly and it was obvious to everyone who was around. Stiles had teased you both about it and so had Scott. But, neither you nor Derek ever acted on it. Derek wasn't even sure you actually liked him or if you just had a flirty personality.

That was until one night, Derek had been going after Scott. The two of them were fighting and you got in the middle of it, making them stop. Scott ran away when the fight was over, knowing that Derek wouldn't hurt you, and in a moment of frustration, you yelled, "How can I be in love with someone who is trying to kill my family?"

The question was supposed to be meant for yourself, but Derek heard it loud and clear as he asked, "You're in love with me?" Your cheeks turned a deep shade of red, as you looked down at the ground.

Derek walked closer to you and placed two fingers under your chin before tilting it up to look at him. You stared into his beautiful eyes as he said, "It's no secret we have chemistry. Obviously, your annoying brother and Scott wouldn't mention it if we didn't, but you're still in high school." "So? What does that have to do with anything?" you asked. "High school is a little young for me. It looks bad," Derek replied. "So, you're rejecting me because of my age?" you confirmed.

"No, I'm not rejecting you, I'm just saying we should wait. We need to wait until you're done with school...is that okay?" Derek asked you, looking into your blue eyes. You didn't want to agree. You thought it was ridiculous. Age shouldn't matter if you both liked each other, right?

You were so caught up on that part, that you missed the most important detail. Derek was saying he liked you back. He was saying that he wanted to be with you, just not right now. You let out a small sigh before nodding your head and agreeing. "Yeah, okay, you're right. We should wait until I'm done with high school," you replied, saying what he wanted to hear. Derek could tell you were lying but nodded his head in thanks anyways before adding, "You're not going to be done with high school for a little while. If you find someone else."

"Derek," you said, cutting him off. "If you find someone else, you should move forward with them. I'm not exactly a guy worth waiting for," Derek finished. Before you could protest he vanished, leaving you to walk back home in the woods.

You hadn't seen Derek since then. You were too embarrassed to go talk to him. You would consider him a good friend of yours, but there was no way you were going over there by yourself.

"Sounds like a plan," Scott replied, both of them looking at you for your approval. "Yeah, sure, sounds great," you replied. You hadn't told either of them about your conversation with Derek and you didn't intend to. That was between you and him.

School dragged on as your anxiety built up, waiting for the day to end. You felt like you couldn't breath as Stiles' started driving to Derek's house after school. You hoped that it wouldn't be awkward. When you got to his loft, you let Stiles and Scott lead the way up. Scott knocked on the door and Derek gladly let the three of you in. "Hey," he said as you walked past him. He gave you a small smile and you smiled back. He didn't want it to be awkward either. Good.

You sat down next to Derek on the couch, like you always did, and the four of you started talking about Scott's problem. During the talk, you and Derek kept sharing glances and smiles. Stiles and Scott were right, the feelings were definitely obvious.

After Derek had come up with a solution to help Scott, he began telling you about his own plan that he had been working on. Derek had been putting together his own pack, consisting of people who went to Beacon Hills High with the three of you. There were a few people in his pack, but the only one you really knew was Isaac Lahey. Isaac had been in a few of your classes, but he was always really quiet. You could just tell from his broken look that he a horrible home life. That was probably one of the reasons Derek turned him into a werewolf.

Derek asked that the three of you help him look out for his pack, in the sense of making sure that they don't lose control in the middle of school. You all agreed and you volunteered to watch Isaac since you saw him the most.

Derek seemed a little hesitant at first, but agreed, thanking you for the help. The three of you spent a little bit more time at Derek's loft, just hanging out, before you left. You and Stiles parted ways with Scott, going to your own home, teasing each other the whole walk.

The next day you got to school, you decided to introduce yourself to Isaac. If you were going to watch out for him, he needed to know who you were. Otherwise, you would just be stalking him. You saw him standing by himself in the hall and you walked up to him with a smile. "Hey, I'm Max," you told him, catching him completely off-guard.

He looked terrified and confused so you just continued, hoping to make him feel a little more at ease. "You're Isaac, right?" you asked him. He just nodded his head. "You're in history and gym with me," you told him, showing that you knew who he was.

"And English," he added quietly. You smiled, happy that you were getting him to talk before responding, "Right. Well, anyways, look I'm kind of struggling in my classes, and I've heard that you've got great grades, and I was just wondering if you would help me study." Isaac looked at you like you were up to something as he asked, "Why me?"

You looked down the hall and told him, "You look the most harmless out of everyone else." Isaac chuckled at that, knowing full well just how dangerous he could be, but he didn't think you knew that and agreed to help you out.

The two of you met every day after school, and you started including him in doing more things with you. Eventually, he asked you out. Your first instinct was to say no because of Derek, but then you remembered what Derek said. He wanted you to date someone else if you found them, besides graduation was still a long time away.

So, you agreed to go out with Isaac. One night, while you guys were out, Isaac lost control and tried to run away. You followed him though, helped him calm down, and then explained that you knew about him being a werewolf and that you knew Derek.

Once his secret was out, Isaac was happy. He started bringing you everywhere with him, including Derek's loft. When Derek saw you and Isaac together, you could see the jealousy in his eyes. He was genuinely mad at you. You tried to smooth things over by talking to him, but when you did he snapped at you. You explained that he was the one who asked you to date someone else, so he didn't have a right to be mad.

After that first time, whenever you and Isaac hung out with Derek, things went along better. Derek needed some time to cool down but was able to manage his feelings for you. The two of you continued acting the way you always did, flirting with each other.

Isaac was jealous, but he trusted you. And you trusted him with your whole heart. You never thought Isaac would hurt you. But, it was blind and naive trust. You were walking out of school one day when you saw Isaac and Allison kissing by her car. Your feelings went through the whole spectrum, but mostly, you were heartbroken.

Isaac looked up and saw you standing there, tears streaming down your face. He felt guilty and tried to explain to you, but you didn't give him a chance to explain. You quickly got in your car and drove off. You wanted to go home, but you didn't want to see Stiles or your father and lie to them. You couldn't go to Scott's because he was never home anymore. So, you decided to go to Derek's.

You walked up the stairs to his loft and knocked on the door. You looked destroyed. Your hair was a mess, your cheeks were red and puffy from crying, and your glasses were all fogged up. When Derek opened the door, he saw the state you were in and instantly began asking who hurt you.

He let you in and you explained what had happened. Derek was outraged and left the loft. Before he left, you begged him not to kill Isaac, but he acted like he didn't even hear you. You cried some more, cuddled up in a blanket on Derek's couch. When Derek came back, he was covered in blood and you looked at him with sad eyes as you asked, "Did you kill him?"

Derek let out a sigh as he took off his shirt, going into the bedroom to change his clothes. "You didn't want me to, right?" Derek asked, peeking his head out the bedroom door. "Right," you replied.

He came back out and sat next to you on the couch. "I didn't kill him, but I did hurt him as much as he hurt you," Derek replied, turning on the TV. He got underneath the blanket with you and let you rest your head against him. He spent the night with you, comforting you.

The next morning, you kissed Derek on the cheek, thanking him and then you went back to your home to take a shower and change. Stiles bombarded you with questions about where you were all night last night, and you just responded with Derek's name. Instantly, Stiles was grossed out and begged you to stop talking. You smirked at yourself. Nothing happened, especially not what Stiles was thinking, but it was enough to shut him up and that was good enough for you.

Since Isaac, you hadn't dated anyone else. You were heartbroken from him cheating on you, and weren't ready to trust anybody else in that same way. You weren't sure if you even wanted to give anyone else a chance.

You knew how you felt for Derek. You loved him and wanted him. So why put yourself through the whole mess of dating some else when you knew who you wanted to be with. And when you knew he wanted to be with you. At least you thought he did.

But lots of stuff ended up happening. Allison died, Derek had been captured by a Mexican group of hunters and a werejaguar named Kate, Scott made his own pack, adding three people named Malia, Liam and Kira to your friend group, and Derek started dating a woman named Braeden. Seeing Derek with another woman hurt you, because you were finally done with high school. The moment you thought you had both been waiting for was here and he was with someone else.

But, with all of the crazy stuff going on, you didn't have time to deal with Derek's new girlfriend. Scott had just been captured by a group of crazy strong creatures called the Berserkers who were led by Kate. You and your friends decided to all go and get him back.

Malia was a werewolf who grew up like a coyote, so her instincts were very primal. Kira was a kitsune, a wolf spirit, who was now dating Scott. She was very powerful with her sword. Liam was Scott's Beta who was loyal but still trying to learn how to control his powers. Malia and Liam joined you, Derek, Peter (Derek's uncle), Braeden and Stiles on the road to Mexico to get Scott and Kira, who had also been captured, back.

Liam had to be restrained in the back of a van because of the full moon, you all knew he couldn't control his powers. You rode in the back of the van with him and Derek while Braeden rode up front with Stiles.

Behind your car, Peter was driving with Malia. You were all terrified for Scott's life, but even still, you couldn't help but look at the people who surrounded you and be thankful for their friendship.

It felt like forever, but didn't take that long to cross the desert into the area where Scott was. Liam had lost control and transformed into a werewolf for a little bit, but you all worked together and managed to get him back under control. Right as you did though, the back door to the van was ripped off and Derek was pulled out.

You saw that it was a Berserker and quickly ran to help him. The Berserker was stabbing Derek repeatedly. You fought the Berserker off, and Braeden continued to fight it as you collapsed to the ground next to Derek.

Tears streamed from your face, as you ripped your shirt, pressing it to his abdomen, trying to stop the bleeding. "Derek," you said softly. Derek moved his hand up to cup your cheek, before losing energy and letting it slide down to rest on the exposed part of your stomach. You felt electricity at the touch, but were too focused on him to pay too much attention to it,

Derek told everyone he was fine and to go save Scott. No one believed him, but they did as they were told. You and Braeden stayed behind though. Kate and a Berserker came at the three of you. Braeden fought them off while you held Derek in your arms.

You knew she was his girlfriend, but you didn't even care right now. The man you loved was dead in your arms. He had stopped moving, stopped breathing. You let the tears fall freely, and after another moment you laid Derek on the ground and moved to help Braeden fight. Within seconds though, there was movement and you looked behind you to see that Derek's dead body was gone. You looked up on top of a building and saw him fully transformed into a wolf.

He quickly moved to attack and kill the Berserker and Kate. He managed to kill the Berserker, but Kate ran away. The rest of your group soon joined you with Scott and Kira behind them, as well as Peter, unconscious.

Scott explained that Peter was the one who taught Kate what she knew and that he was seeking out the power of being Alpha. You all took a moment to process everything that was happening, when Derek looked at the group and spoke up. "This isn't the best time to tell you all this, but I'm leaving," Derek stated, looking mostly at you to see how you would react.

Your mouth dropped in shock and hurt as you looked at Derek. "What?" you asked. "Braeden and I have been talking about it for a while. We have some things we need to take care of," Derek explained.

Your heart completely shattered at his words. He was dating Braeden, but you didn't think it would last. You were finally out of high school, and he told you that the two of you would be together when that happened. But, now he was leaving with his girlfriend? You felt hurt and betrayal build up inside of you until you were exploding with the emotions. Derek tried to continue but you ignored him, walked up to Scott and grabbed the keys to his bike.

Thankfully, his bike had been there since he and Kira got there. You got on the bike and without a second glance towards Derek, you drove off. You didn't want to say goodbye. You were beyond angry at him. How could he do this?

You started driving back to Beacon Hills by yourself, letting the tears fly off your face in the wind. You didn't want to see anybody. You didn't want to talk to anybody. You just wanted to be home. Hearing that Derek was leaving with his girlfriend made it real. He wasn't with you, he was with some else. He loved her. That solidity hit too hard for you to look him in the eyes.

When you finally got back to your house, you expected your dad to be home, but he was out on a case. So, you went up to your room. You sat down on your bed and let the sobs escape as you continued to cry. This was so much worse than when Isaac cheated on you.

You didn't know what to do, but you had to get your feelings out. So, you locked your door, went to your desk and grabbed your favorite journal and a pencil and started writing.

"Don't you know I'm no good for you?

I've learned to lose you, can't afford to

Tore my shirt to stop you bleedin'

But nothin' ever stops you leavin'"

You kept writing, pouring all of your feelings out into this song. The tears kept falling as you kept writing, but you didn't care. You felt more alone than you had ever felt before. You had lost the man you loved.

~2 months later~

The first song you wrote about the heartbreak that Derek caused you helped get all of you feelings out. So, you kept writing. You wrote more and more songs, and eventually started recording them.

People actually really liked your music. People kept asking you to sing at parties and other celebrations. You loved performing. It was a way to keep your mind off of the real heartbreak behind your words. But, the next gig you had to do you knew was going to be a particular hard one.

The gig was tonight at Derek's loft. Stiles had decided to throw sort of a high school get together and he had the keys to Derek's loft. Stiles begged you to sing, and you agreed even though you knew how hard it would be for you to go back there. But, to make things even harder, today was Derek's birthday.

You decided not to think about that as you got ready for the party. It didn't take you too long and when you got to Derek's loft, most everyone was already there. You walked in and were immediately greeted by Scott who bombarded you with a hug.

"Hey Scott," you said with a smile. "Max! I haven't seen you in forever, where have you been hiding?" Scott asked, teasing you. "I wasn't hiding, I've been busy being a rockstar," you teased back. "So, I've heard," Scott replied with a small laugh. "So, how are you doing anyways?" he asked. "Fine," you replied. "Max," Scott stated, knowing you were lying to him. You shrugged your shoulders and told him, "I have my music. It's my way of venting. Why do you think all of them talk about my heartbreak?"

Scott wanted to talk to you about it some more, but Stiles announced that you would now be performing, so you had to go. You made your way up to the stage that was set up and grabbed the microphone. You began your performance with the first song you had ever written about Derek.

Scott hated to see how heartbroken you were. You were like a sister to him. So, he decided to do something about it. He pulled out his phone and recorded the song. And then he recorded the next one. Every song you performed he recorded it and sent it all to Derek.

Derek needed to know how badly he hurt you and Scott intended to be the one who showed him. After you were done performing, you came back down, off the stage, and just spent the rest of the night hanging out with your friends. You loved every moment of it. Since you started recording music, you didn't really have time for them.

When the night was over with, you started walking back home. When you got into your room there was someone standing there and you screamed before you realized that it was Derek. You let out a slow breath as you glared at the man before you.

"What the hell are you doing here?" you asked him. "I missed you," he replied, looking sad. "Really? Is that what you told your girlfriend every night?" you asked him, rolling your eyes. You knew you were being mean, but you were beyond mad and hurt, and he kind of deserved it. "Braeden and I aren't together, we haven't been for a long time."

You looked at Derek confused and he walked closer to you. "I was using Braeden to get information about a pack that needed to be taken down. We took them down and then I left her," he explained.

You scoffed and asked, "Then why have you been gone for so long?" Derek let out a sigh before looking down and replying, "Because I knew you hated me." You crossed your arms before telling him, "I hated you because you left. You made it obvious that you had feelings for me, and gave me hope that we would be together and then you skipped town with another woman!" you snapped.

Derek looked even more sad before telling you, "I know. I told you, I'm not a guy worth waiting for." You shook your head and asked again, "What are you doing here?" "Scott sent me videos of all of your songs. They're good," he told you.

"They're about the pain you caused me," you replied. "I know, but they're still good. They made me come back," Derek replied. "How did you get here so quickly?" you questioned. "I was never that far away. Look, Max, I know you hate me. But I've had to go through two long months without you in my life. I can't go through another," Derek told you, pouring his heart out.

"Well, I never asked you to leave, Derek," you told him. Derek let out a loud sigh and in a moment of frustration, tangled his fingers in your hair and pulled you into him, crashing his lips to yours.

You were upset, no doubt, but that kiss was something you had been waiting for since you met him. You responded immediately, filling the kiss with so much passion and love. When you pulled away you were both breathless. "I need you in my life," Derek reiterated, making sure you knew what he was saying. You closed your eyes, thinking for a moment, before saying, "Well, then I guess you have a lot of apologizing to do."

Derek smiled at your playful remark and pressed his lips to yours again. There was no way you were going to just forgive him. He had broken your trust completely, he had broken your heart. But, he was standing in front of you, pressing his lips to yours, and everything felt right. You finally had the man that you loved back in your life and he was willing to do absolutely anything to prove just how much he loved you.

Always Keep Fighting!
