there was something compelling about the way the sun rose over the horizon as a new day begun. the way it only caught a quick glimpse of the moon as she slowly disappeared to present in another sky. as a child, your grandmother always told you that the sun and moon were lovers in another life but cursed to never be together.

she would often gaze at the sky with you as you both watched the sunrise and set and see that the two would meet for a short time. you always thought it was an invasion of privacy but grandmother said that this was their way of showing how great their love is. even years after she passed, you admired the sunrise and sunset, every day.

but not today as you woke up minutes before your alarm.

startled, you sat up straight in bed to see that the sun has arrived and the moon had already said it's goodbyes. you pout a bit to yourself as you reach for your phone before the obnoxious alarm goes off.

a small yawn escapes your lips as your eyes widen to see you phone call log.

loml eren 🥰
4 hours, 43 minutes.

there was no way you guys had talked for that long. when did you even fall asleep? it was then that you realized this was the most amount of sleep you've gotten in a while without the use of your medications. you plug your phone into the charger as you stretch and get up. you got ready in record time although there was really no need to rush since you had plenty of time.

you decided to make yourself a bagel and head out, heading to the starbucks that was on campus. you ordered yourself an iced chai latte before moving off to the side and waiting. a bustling blonde called out your name and happily handed you your drink.

"thank you." you smiled.

"your name is so pretty! very unique!" she beamed.

"why, thank you lucy." you told her after taking a peek at her name tag on her apron. "see you around."

you sipped at the latte as you made your way to class. the morning breeze was warmer than usual. that's usually how the end of summer tended to be, warmer than the rest of it. you were glad you only decided on some baggy jeans and a graphic tee instead of the hoodie you debated on throwing on.

"y/n!" you heard a familiar voice call. before you could even identify the person, a force was bumped into you, causing you to almost fall back. thankfully, the culprit was able to steady you and themselves.

"jesus, connie! you almost wiped her out there!" jean scolded as he jogged over to you. "you have a good grip, y/n. not a single drop of your drink spilled."

"considering it cost me almost six dollars, of course i didn't want it to spill." you looked up to connie, who still had his arms wrapped around you in a hug. "hi connie."

"hi, y/n. jean, did you know me and y/n are besties now?"

"uh, no. wait i thought me and sasha were your best friends?" jean whined.

"yeah you guys were but we got the bracelets to proof it." connie proudly showed off the bracelet being sported on his wrist. when you were finished grocery shopping yesterday, there was a young girl selling handmade jewelry outside and you couldn't pass up. so you bought one for yourself and connie since he begged you to.

"damn, i'm kinda jealous." jean admitted, the three of you heading to class.

"maybe i'll buy you one next time too." you mused.

connie gasps, face full of shock. "i thought what we had was special!"

you laugh as you head into class, reclaiming your seat from the first day. jean and connie did the same, sitting with you. class started shortly and it was antagonizing how long professor smith's lecture was.

"hey, y/n. how do you spell remember?" connie whispered.

"huh?" you turn to him as he points to jean.

"he keeps spelling it as 'rememeber'."

"i do not!" protested jean.

"jean! connie! the second day of class and you're causing another uproar? at this rate, i might have to separate you." professor smith scolds as he turns his attention to where the three of you were sitting.

"professor smith, it's my fault. i missed the last part of the last slide while taking notes so i was asking to see if they jotted it down." you spoke up.

jean and connie gave you a look of thanks. professor smith raised an eyebrow, "y/n, don't hesitate to ask me to go back. same with the rest of, if i am moving too fast, just let me know."

it was like a chorus of signs was released as about three others admitted they missed the last slide. erwin just laughed and switched the slide back. in all honesty, you were a fast writer so you had it all down before he even switched the slide.

"you saved our asses there." jean said after class.

"well i couldn't lose my form of entertainment for this class now could i?"

"oh, so we're only being used for entertainment. you hear that connie?"

"i mean i don't mind. i know i'm funny as fuck. can't say the same about you." connie laughed earning a noogie from the taller. you told them bye as you headed to ackerman's class.

ackerman's class was a blur, much more interesting than smith's. you always had a soft spot for english and found some of the readings to be of value. you also loved the discussions of the reading, especially with your peers as it was interesting to see the different ways each of you had interpreted the words. and that's exactly what levi had you do in class in pairs. you then dragged yourself to professor hange's class, excited that this was the last class of the day.

you slid into your seat and almost immediately the chair next to you is occupied. you look over to see the familiar blondie giving you a smile.

"hi y/n! how are you today?" armin asked.

"pretty good. the day is going by fast, don't you think?"

"for sure. but it's still the first week, i can only imagine the stress to come on monday. not to mention i have ackerman's class after this

"hey, don't be such a pessimist! that doesn't suit you at all. and his class was really interesting today! crazy that he's our boss and professor don't you think?"

armin laughed. more students began to trickle in as you waited for professor hange to arrive. mikasa walked into class, eren trailing in behind her. he raised his eyebrow at armin.

"my seat." he stated. armin looked up to the boy as he towered over him.

"oh, right! sorry just wanted to talk to y/n." he stuck his tongue out at eren and moved to the table in front of you, greeting mikasa.

eren plopped down in his seat, heaving a sigh. he turned his attention to you. "hi."

"hi." you replied.

before either of you could say more, hange zoomed in. "sorry i'm late! class shouldn't be long today since we're mainly going to learn about where each of you come from! I know marley university has students from all over attending so why not learn a bit about everyone's hometown and their agricultural contribution?"

the class murmurs here and there in response before a glint is seen in hange's eyes. "the student coming from the most agricultural city will be given extra credit and we will be visiting the city the week before finals. alright, discuss it with your seat mates and then we will share with the class when i hear the conversation die down. we won't be deciding the city but it will be a surprise when the semester is nearing an end. and discuss!"

hange claps her hands and conversation erupts. armin and mikasa turn around to talk with you and eren.

"we all came from paradis and truth be told..." mikasa starts.

"the only thing we're known for is the lack of agricultural we have. besides sasha's small family farm." armin finishes.

"so tell us where you're from." eren says. he turns to face you, elbow resting on the table as his chin rests his palm.

"um, i'm from oak town. five hours away. very small." you state, fiddling with your fingers. "we actually have a lot of strawberry fields, fields of lemon and orange trees. a lot of farm owners too on the outskirts of town."

"damn, so you're like a country girl turned city?" eren taunts.

you roll your eyes. "oak town has it's own little city spots as well. just not as grand as paradis or marley."

"so what made you choose here?" mikasa asked, leaning forward a bit.

"just wanted to get away i guess. getting into the nursing program here was a bonus." you shrug. it was then that hange clapped her hands together and called the class to come regroup.

her eyes twinkled when she heard armin speak about your city and she quickly jotted it down on her list of possibilities for the field trip. deep down, you were hoping it wouldn't be chosen.

__________

it was early friday afternoon. the mall that you, mikasa, sasha and annie were at was not as crowded as you expected it to be. but it was a little after noonand the high schoolers were still in class and not running around the mall just yet.

mikasa was treating you all to boba as a way to celebrate surviving the first week of classes. and who could say no to free boba? certainly not sasha. so there you all sat, at a small table in the middle of the boba shop waiting for your drinks to be called out.

sasha happily carried over a game of jenga and sat beside you, building the tower. "loser has to buy me seconds." she challenged.

annie rolled her eyes but smirked. "you're on."

"i say loser has to pay next time." you gambled. mikasa nodded in agreement, starting the game. the boba shop was lively with fellow college students studying or just grabbing a quick drink. not to mention the loud music being played.

sasha's tongue poked out of her mouth as she concentrated on trying to not knock down the tower. unfortunately for her, she jumped when the bobarista called out the order number for your table and caused all the pieces to fall.

"ain't no way." she pouted and began to pick up the pieces. mikasa and annie excused themselves to go retrieve the drinks while you helped the sore loser clean.

"this is so unfair. now i have to pay next time." you patted the sulking girls back and offered her a small, sad smile. within the week, you were able to bond and learn more about the your three roommate.

they welcomed you with open arms and you surprisingly fit right in. their friends enjoyed your presence, often greeting you around campus or sitting with you in class or the library where you studied. it made you happy to know how accepting they were of you and it definitely shook off and distracted you from the growing distance between you and emi as well as the no response you've gotten from kris.

and then there was eren, the boy who could sleep the day away. you were still skeptical of him and his intentions seeing as the first conversation was certainly unpleasant. and the second encounter not being the best either. what did he even mean by playing nurse back at his place? that whole comment made you confused.

but the phone call you had was something else. there was something beneath the surface that you still had yet to unveil. you hated to admit how easy it was to talk to him, over the phone anyways. the next day in class, he really didn't say much to you. there was no phone call that night and you didn't see him at all yesterday either. what was the anxiousness you felt from not seeing him? or talking to him? you barely even knew the guy!

"so i heard dragneel is hosting a party tonight at his house in magnolia." annie said, ripping you from your thoughts.

"dragneel? the dude whose grandpa let's him throw huge parties and parties with everyone?" sash asked around a mouthful of boba.

"god, finish chewing before you talk. but yes, him. what do you all say? wanna go?" she raised an eyebrow, glancing at the three of you.

sasha eagerly nodded her head. mikasa took a sip of her boba, raising her hand to cover her mouth as she chewed. "magnolia is the next town over right? like a ten minute drive?" annie nodded in response. "sure, i can drive."

the three perked their attention over to you. you were barely stabbing your straw into your drink before looking up to meet their stares. "um, i'm not really a party person."

this wasn't really a lie. you hated crowds more than anything. sure you smoked, but there was something different about smoking alone and with strangers. and you absolutely hated alcohol. so what exactly would you even do at a party? the whole idea of attending filled you with even more angst.

"oh c'mon, y/n! it will be more fun if you come! we'll stay with you the whole time! pretty please!" sasha fluttered her lashes at you as she looked up with a pout and gripped at your arm.

"i don't know..." you mumble.

"sasha's right. it will be fun if you come. and we definitely won't leave you alone, i promise." mikasa stated.

"scouts honor." annie smiles.

you looked at all of them, their eyes pleading with you to say yes. you heaved a heavy sigh. "fine, i'll go."

"yay!" cheered the brunette. "the mall awaits! we need outfits!"

everyone hustled out of their seats and headed out and into the mall. who knew what awaited you tonight.
