What should people do when life takes away the ones they love? Run with what strength remains until they find them or give up and wander aimlessly to the end?
Lorcan would have run to find Stefan, however he too went away to heal the internal wounds left by the battle. His father was out of the discussion, that man only had time to work; maybe if he and Miles used the blame card they could convince him to help them in the search, but he couldn't wait for more than that.
He was more lost than ever, the only thing that kept him fighting was the hope of reuniting with Agatha and the support of his friends and brother. The young man refused to be a burden to the Protectors, which added more weight to his bag of problems, he needed to find Agatha and he should do it without leaving behind his responsibilities.
No matter what others thought of him, it was the safety of his loved ones that Lorcan was concerned about. The real pressure was created by himself by filling his head with unfavorable scenarios, the more he thought the worse it became, so he decided to take action to not think.
He went in search of those he trusted could guide him: Gellert and Momotaro. The best place to find them was the leader's office. A part of him feared seeing memories of Stefan in the room his mentor frequented most before relinquishing his position, yet he pressed on, no good to come if he didn't face his fears.
Just as he imagined the office remained as Stefan had left it, the same pristine white walls and the windows had the same light blue curtains. They didn't even take out the photo of the first members of the resistance that the former leader put on the desk. It's like no one wants Stefan's essence to disappear for fear of losing him forever.
The young man was so focused on the past that he didn't see the two people present in the room. Such was his concentration that he was startled when he heard one of them.
"What's wrong? A zombie seems more alive than you," Momotaro asked. He walked over to the newcomer and patted him on the shoulder.
Lorcan looked the person who had just spoken to him in the eye; five seconds later he shifted his gaze to Gellert, who remained behind the desk.
Someone else was in the room. Under the window, lying on a small cushion, was Titan. The dog opened one of its eyes at the noise, looked at Lorcan, and then closed them again, going back to sleep.
"Do you have a minute? There's something I need help with," he said.
The new leader raised an eyebrow but didn't question his friend's words. He moved to the right to let him pass, motioning to the empty chair by the window.
"Make yourself comfortable," he invited the youngest. "I got some time, I bet Gellert can stay a little longer as well."
"I can stay all you want," confirmed the firefighter, taking a seat behind the desk. "Well, I have to have dinner with Bertram, even so you have several hours before that."
"So, What's the matter?" Asked Momotaro.
"Agatha is missing, she was probably kidnapped," explained Lorcan. "Two days ago, while helping to clean up the square, I sensed that she was in danger, so I went looking for her with Miles. Suddenly I stopped feeling his presence. When we arrived at the place, she was gone, we only found her bracelet."
"Did you find any relevant information in these two days?" Momotaro leaned against the window. "Judging by your defeated expression and the fact that you came to ask us for help, I guess you didn't find anything."
"Demir checked the security cameras and we asked the people who work in the area, but there was no sign of Agatha. I asked Flora to help me, she is looking for information right now. My father is the next option but I'd rather not have to ask him for any favors."
"That bad? I thought you had a decent relationship with your father," said Gellert.
"We're fine as long as we don't meddle with each other's work. He has his way of acting as a cop and his job is always his priority, even over his family."
"Any suspects?" Asked Momotaro.
"I'm sure it was Ellis." The youngest clench his fists. "I can't think of anyone else. That demon was obsessed with her, we should have been more careful."
"You won't win anything by blaming yourself, let's focus on finding her." The leader walked over to Lorcan and ruffled his hair. "I'll inform members to be vigilant during the watches, and all our resources are at your disposal. She's one of us and we don't abandon our own. We're gonna find her "
"Thanks, I know I can trust you," said Lorcan with a smile.
"Did you talk to Celina?" Asked Gellert, as usual he spoke little but each of his suggestions were invaluable.
"No, why. Does she know something?"
The young man was confused, did Gellert know something that he didn't? He didn't deny that she was very useful on certain occasions thanks to her power, even so he didn't understand how she could help him.
"I can see where you're going," Momo said to the oldest, his eyes shining with recognition. "Celina has already been developing her power, she discovered a new use that I imagine you will like. I'll call her, if you agree."
Lorcan nodded. He wanted to inquire a bit about his companion's new ability, however, he preferred to wait for her to arrive and explain it. He knew that Celina specialized in dreams, so it must be related to that. He wanted so badly to know how she could help him that he almost interrogated the two men.
He began to tap his feet on the floor, the chair he was sitting on was moving a little. How much longer was it going to take the young woman to arrive? He hoped it wasn't far.
For Lorcan Gellert's suggestion brought a new light, just as the lack of signals choked him, he found a way to breathe. So, the moment he saw Celina walk through the door, he swore he could feel a blanket of warmth hugging his body.
"Duty calls?" She asked, closing the door.
Momotaro pointed at Lorcan with his head, he didn't utter a word and yet the caution with which he moved communicated tension.
"He needs your help," said the leader. "I'll let him explain."
The young woman turned her body in Lorcan's direction. He looked down at the floor and began tapping his fingers. Each time he re-explained the situation the feeling of frustration grew. All the questions came back, all the things he could have done differently to avoid it invaded his mind.
The distance from the pit he fell into was getting bigger, soon it would be impossible to get out. He couldn't hear anything, couldn't register his surroundings. Until he felt something touch his leg, the touches continued and he was forced to react. Lorcan looked down and saw Titan. Thanks to him he was able to remember that he had been asked a question.
"Thanks," the young man whispered as he petted the dog. "Agatha is missing, someone took her and we don't have any clue where she might be. They said you can help me somehow with your new ability."
Celina smiled and tranquility returned to Lorcan's body, if she was smiling it must mean that she had good news.
"I can help you communicate with her in some way," she said. "I can connect her dreams, for that to happen she has to be asleep and close enough for me to reach her."
"So if you can connect with her, does that mean she's close? Can I talk to her? Can she tell me where she is?" All the questions shot out of the young man's mouth, his enthusiasm didn't allow him to retain them.
"Yes, if I connect with her it means that she's close. No, you can't talk with her, I'm not powerful enough to fully add you to their dreams. I think I can make you see her, even if it's blurry, at least you'll know if she's okay and she'll be able to feel your presence. I don't know if she's going to be able to hear you."
"I told you that she could help you," commented Gellert.
"You were right, as usual. Will I be able to hear her?" Asked Lorcan.
"I don't think so. Sorry if it's not much help, it's the best I can do," said Celina, guilt filled her voice.
"It is much more helpful than you can imagine. At least I'll be able to confirm that she's safe, that's all I need to know. When can we start?"
"Tonight."
The young man's stomach turned over. In just hours he would be able to communicate with Agatha.
