"What did you just say?" Agatha asked Varinia.

"Cadoc is furious. Zagar returned from his mission without finishing it, apparently your friends left him a message and he went looking for them. Cadoc tried to stop him but everyone knows that when Zagar is determined to do something no one can talk him out of it," the demon explained, eating a piece of toast. "And those who saw him say he was in too much of a hurry to leave."

Agatha smiled, "What did the message say?"

"I have no idea, he didn't say anything about that. I hope your friends have an idea what they're doing because angry Zagar is not someone you want to cross paths with."

They knew what they were doing, the young woman trusted Lorcan's decisions. Despite the fact that a part of her still feared what could happen to them, she had decided to concentrate on the best scenarios. She could no longer do anything for them from where she was, so worrying only brought her suffering.

"I'm sure that they have a plan, I trust them."

Varinia got up from the bed and brushed the crumbs off her clothes. "If you think so, then I'm on your side. Honestly, it's better that Zagar doesn't come back, once Cadoc returns from covering the mission he abandoned, he'll find a way to get back the favor to Zagar and that always ends with the mansion being destroyed. or with other injured demons foreign to their fight."

"So Cadoc isn't here either?"

"That's what I just said, silly. Actually none of the leaders are in the mansion right now. Cadoc was supposed to stay behind to oversee the mansion but there were changes. Why do you think I stayed longer today than usual?"

"Do you think they're going to come back fast?"

"I'm not sure," Varinia shrugged. "I reckon not, the humans are planning to attack each other and our leaders want to take advantage of that moment."

The village was in danger. The same image of houses being destroyed and people running for their lives flashed through her head. Maybe if she managed to escape she still had time to warn them, at least she could save her parents. Agatha got up from the bed and walked over to Varinia.

She took the demon by the shoulders before speaking. "This is my chance, you have to help me escape."

"Now? Without any plan? Do you have any idea how many demons are in the mansion?"

"I have more chances to escape now that the leaders are gone, plus if Zagar went after my friends it means they're going to come looking for me. Don't you want to leave this place too?"

"What about my brother?"

"He can come with us if he wants to. But we need to find the ancient light first."

Varinia grabbed Agatha's arms and pushed them off her shoulders. "You don't only want to run away but you also want to steal the most guarded relic in the mansion? Are you crazy?"

"Please. You said you wanted to do the right thing." Agatha put her shoes on and walked towards the door.

"Ugh, why am I so easy to convince? Alright, but you do as I say. At least my power is useful for this type of thing."

"What can you do?" Asked the young woman in a whisper as they crossed the threshold.

"You'll see it soon."

The halls of the mansion suddenly seemed much louder to Agatha despite wearing her earplugs. Every time she took a step she felt as if sound reverberated through the walls covered with paintings. And if it made her breathing quicken, then the shadows of the chandelier could cause her to go into cardiac arrest.

Each time they made a turn, she feared that a demon was waiting for them on the other side. Agatha was beginning to regret her decision, Varinia who had had to be convinced to help her seemed much calmer than her. Or maybe it was just her familiarity with the mansion.

"Stop." Varinia put her arm in front of Agatha and with the other hand she pointed to her left. "We're here."

Agatha peeked her head in the direction she was indicated. A new corridor continued to the left, at the end there was a huge black wooden door. In front of her two demons stood guard.

"The ancient light is inside that room. After we fight them the rest of the demons will likely find out about our escape," Varinia whispered. "Remember what I taught you, focus on attacking."

Agatha nodded and waited for some sign.

Varinia's right hand began to glow. The glow grew until blue butterflies began to appear around her. With a flick of the wrist she sent the butterflies flying towards the demons and completely covered their heads.

"Now," she said.

The demons, focused on scaring away the butterflies, didn't notice when the two young women approached.

Remembering her training, Agatha stepped behind one of them and wrapped her arm around his neck. The demon resisted, its strength was superior to the girl's, causing him to almost break free.

Focus on attacking.

Agatha rested her hand against the demon's neck, in her mind she set the intention to hurt him. Her hand started tingling. She could feel a wave of energy entering her body. The demon stopped making strength until it vanished.

"Nice power, I'd say you sucked the life out of him," Varinia commented, kicking the other demon against the wall. "Come on, mine is already trapped in a weird illusion."

Together they pushed the door, making it open a few inches.

While they entered the room, the only light that gave them visibility was the one that entered from the corridor. Most of the space remained a secret, but that didn't matter to Agatha. The only thing that interested her was the ancient light that waited on a pillar just steps from her.

"What are you waiting for? Grab it quickly before they find us," Varinia said.

Spurred on by the demon's words, Agatha reached for the scepter and reached out to grab it. She could feel a wave of energy, similar to static, coming from the ancient light. When her hand closed against it the energy spread through her arm.

"Where is the exit?" she asked, after putting the scepter in her pocket.

"First we have to get to the ground floor."

They no longer had time to be careful, the important thing was to get to the entrance as quickly as possible.

The sooner they'll do it, the less demons will go after them.

They ran through the empty hallways towards the stairs. The sound of footsteps was getting closer and closer to them.

They were being hunted.

"You are a disgrace to the demons, Varinia." A voice reached them from behind.

Varinia stopped running. She turned around and raised both her hands. A green light covered them and from them came an image of the corridor.

"What is that? It seems as if the hallway continues even though it's covering it." Agatha asked.

"An illusion, they won't be able to see us, it will confuse them for a while."

They turned the corner expecting to find more demons ready to attack them but instead they found them unconscious on the ground.

"Looks like someone is on our side," Varinia commented, stepping over one of the demons.

Who would be willing to help them? Only one answer reached Agatha's mind. Without thinking she rushed to follow the trail of defeated demons, hoping to find those responsible at the end of the path.

For a moment she forgot about the escape, nor did she care about Varinia's screams asking her to come back.

A group of silhouettes entered her field of vision. She quickened her steps to speeds she didn't think possible.

There he was. As handsome as the last time she saw him.

She called out his name, wishing that after all those dreams he would finally be able to hear her. Lorcan raised his head and his gaze met Agatha's.

That was all it took for her to run to him. She jumped into his outstretched arms and fell into his embrace as she wrapped her legs around Lorcan's waist.

"I missed you so much," he cried, resting his forehead against hers.

Agatha didn't say anything, instead she brought one of her hands to Lorcan's cheeks. She wiped away some of his tears before closing the distance between them.

His lips welcomed her in a sweet, passionate kiss. It was as if he wanted to make up for all the lost time and she had no objection.

They were together again, that was what mattered.
