Seven: When a Man Breaks

The night was cold and silent. There was no life, no laughter, no celebration, it was empty. The lonely man was walking, an outcast, a reject of the society. He was thrown, ignored and hurt. There was no love not even mercy from the eyes of the town's people even his own family has left him, abandoned him. He was alone in that dark and desolate place.

Maybe it was destiny or even fate but he does not believe in either of those since he had cursed them. He did everything to fit in. He helped those people without asking anything in return. He acquiesced to their every whim in hopes of finding a place for him. He stooped so low just to feel that he belongs but in the end, it was still not enough. With just one mistake, all his dreams, works, expectations and even his life was crushed, trampled.

He continued to walk, reminiscing his misery. He walked and walked until he can no longer go further. He collapsed kneeling on the dry ground and started to cry his heart out. All his life he gave his best, he strived to become one of them, he sacrificed so much for acceptance but in the end it was all for nothing.

It started as a small and quiet laugh, a laugh that mocks his current predicament then it became a sinister one, mocking the current life of all those people who tossed him aside. It was not his choice to be ugly and handicapped and it is not even a sin to be who you are, but to those people it doesn't matter as long as you have a disability you will always become a liability, an unwelcome presence in their midst. It doesn't matter how much tears you shed or how your heart slowly breaks into pieces because in their world of perfection you are beneath them.

Kneeling like it was forever, the man finally stood up, his back straight and his head held high. There was something he forgot to do and he needed to do it now or he will live his life in all of those bad memories. He faced the direction where he came from a smile playing on his lips, a devilish smile, but nonetheless it was a genuine one, one of the last true smiles the man will ever have.

The town was silent, every one was enjoying their own sleep without a care in the world. He wanted to enjoy the peace but he can't because it was false, a deception that he no longer wants to experience. He continued to walk until he reached what he was looking for, this was a place where all their stack of oil and gasoline was stored. One by one he lifted every container and emptied it on every house he passed by. All night he toiled and was rewarded for nobody even noticed that something is happening. They must have been enjoying the night because he was gone. 'Good' he thought because this was on his favor, they will all cease to exist in the world.

He lit a lighter and let it fall on the gasoline and oil drenched land. The man started to laugh, a sinister crackle, there was madness in his eyes as he heard people screaming, children crying, but for him it doesn't matter this was his revenge to those who tormented him. The town continued to burn, whenever he sees a survivor he made sure that they all die. In his blood soaked persona, he relished in the feeling of being happy and being content for the first time.

At the end, what remained of the town is now ashes and burnt flesh. He was satisfied, fulfilled as he now watched the last of the orange glow disappear. He made his way away from that town, a bounce in his steps and soft happy tune from his lips.

It was days after what he has done when a cold sensation prickled at his skin, he was sweating but the sun was nowhere to be found on the sky. The man was familiar with this feeling, he has experienced it a lot of times when he was still living on that burnt town. The feeling of someone watching you but there was none, the feeling that something bad will happen when you close your eyes but he ignored all of those before but now as he closed his eyes and gladly welcomed the inevitable for he know that death is upon him. This time he did not fight the feeling, he just let himself fall into a dreamless sleep, to a welcome oblivion.
