Moving...Excuse Me?

As the car drove towards San Francisco, Joy noticed the saddened mood of all the other emotions, except for (Y/N). Joy decided to help enlighten everyone's mood.

"Hey, look!" Joy pointed to the screen, "The Golden Gate Bridge! Isn't that great?" Joy smiled brightly, "It's not made out of solid gold like we thought, which is kind of disappointing, but still..."

"It does look pretty cool!" (Y/N) smiled as she looked out the screen, taking a mental picture.

"I sure am glad you told me earthquakes are a myth, Joy. Otherwise I'd be terrified right now." Fear gulped nervously.

Everyone eyes each other behind Fear's back.

"Uh... yeah." Joy nodded, feeling slightly nervous himself, but he needed to be strong.

😁😁😁

On Lombard Street, The car is stuck in traffic. Cars honk and people yell loudly at each other, experiencing road rage.

😁😁😁

Inside the Headquarters, Anger smirks at seeing all these people road raging, his cup of tea.

Anger crossed his arms, "These are my kind of people!"

😁😁😁

Back outside of Riley's Mind, on Market Street. Mr. Andersson looked at Riley from the rearview mirror and smiled.

"All right, just a few more blocks." He informed his daughter and wife, "We're almost to our new house!" Mr. Andersson looks back ahead as he drives.

😁😁😁

Inside the Headquarters, the Emotions slowly started to grow antsy and anticipated what this new house may look like.

"Step on it, Daddy!" Anger yelled, getting antsy.

Disgust rolls her eyes, "Why don't we just live in this smelly car?" She asked, "We've already been in it forever."

"Which, actually, was really lucky, because that gave us plenty of time to think about what our new house is going to look like!" (Y/N) smiles with excitement, "Let's review the top five daydreams." She looked at Joy and nodded.

Joy, who seemed just as excited, plugs in Daydreams showing fantasy houses: tree house, water-slide house, etc.

"Ooh! That looks safe!" Fear smiled pointing to one of the fantasy houses.

"Ohh, this will be great for Riley!" Joy pointed to one, "Oh, no, no, no, THIS one." Joy pulled up one of the pictures, "A gingerbread house."

"Ugh, Joy. For the last time, she cannot live in a cookie." Disgust crossed her arms as she pulled up one she liked, "A castle."

"Any of these are perfect choices!!" (Y/N) sighed heavenly as she thought about the options.

"THAT'S the one! It comes with a dragon!" Anger points to the dragon on the side of the castle, though in reality, it would probably be plush.

😁😁😁

Outside of the San Francisco Houses, the car was slowly pulling up to the new houses.

"Now we're getting close, I can feel it." Joy says, off-screen, "Here it is, here's our new house... and..."

The car stops and Riley steps out. As the house turned out to be a run-down Victorian. Nothing like the daydreams.

😁😁😁

Inside the Headquarters, everyone looks slack jawed.

(Y/N) gulps, "Umm...Maybe it's nice on the inside?" She tried to make light of the situation.

"(Y/N)'s right! It's probably better on the inside than outside anyway!" Joy smiled slightly nervously.

😁😁😁

Inside the new house, Riley steps inside. The room is dark, dusty, uninviting.

"We're supposed to live here?" Anger questioned, annoyed.

"Do we have to?" Sadness asked.

"I think we...do?" (Y/N) replied as she gulped once more.

"I'm telling you, it smells like something died in here." Disgust's annoyed and, of course, disgusted voice rang through the Headquarters.

😁😁😁

Inside Headquarters, A disgust memory rolls in. Joy stared at it for a few minutes before taking a deep breath.

"Can you die from moving?" Fear was hyperventilating as (Y/N) tried to calm the poor emotion.

"Guys, you're overreacting." Joy smiled, "Nobody is dying–"

"A DEAD MOUSE!!!" Disgust yelled.

Everyone looked on the screen as a dead mouse was in the corner.

"I'm gonna be sick..." Disgust exclaimed, off-screen.

"Great, this is just great." Anger's annoyed meter was off the roof.

"Ahhhhh!! It's the house of the dead! What are we gonna do?! We're gonna get rabies!!!" Fear jumps into Anger's arms.

Anger fires up the flames, "GET OFFA ME!!!" Fear runs around on fire.

(Y/N) puts him out with a fire extinguisher, "Hey, hey, hey, all through the drive Dad talked about how cool our new room is. Let's go check it out!" (Y/N) smiled, trying to stay calm for everyone's sake as Joy smiled and agreed.

The three emotions shared a glance and all took a deep breath, "Yeah...You're right." They all agreed.

😁😁😁

Back inside the house, Riley dashes up the stairs. She enters her new room. It's tiny. Depressing.

"No, no, no, no, no." Fear hyperventilates again as (Y/N) handed him a brown lunch bag.

"I'm starting to envy the dead mouse." Disgust felt like puking until (Y/N) gave her a cute bucket to barf in.

"Get out the rubber ball, we're in solitary confinement." Anger yelled.

😁😁😁

Back in Headquarters, Disgust is seen throwing out the bucket as Fear was still hyperventilating.

"Oh, Riley can't live here." Sadness spoke up.

"She's right." Anger agreed with Sadness.

"Really bad." Fear yelled.

"It's the worst. It's absolutely the worst." Disgust looked away from the screen.

"This house stinks." Anger crossed his arms.

Memories roll in: anger, disgust, fear. None of sadness, joy or love. This catches Joy's attention as he looked to (Y/N) for support but noticed that even (Y/N) looked worried about this new place, seeing she was trying her best to calm everyone else down but also find something to love about this place.

"Hey, it's nothing our butterfly curtains couldn't fix." Joy spoke up as everyone looked at him, "I read somewhere that an empty room is an opportunity." Joy smiled.

"Where did you read that?" (Y/N) asked as Anger agreed with that question.

"It doesn't matter. I read it and it's great. We'll put the bed there. And the desk over there..." Joy projects an imagination of Riley's furniture.

"The hockey lamp goes there..." Fear said as he pressed a button.

"Put the chair there." Anger pressed a button.

Disgust finally gave in and pressed a button, "Well, the trophy collection goes there."

"Posters..." Sadness pressed a button.

"Stars! I love LOVE that!" (Y/N) pressed a button.

Joy smiled happily, "Now we're talking! Let's go get our stuff from the moving van!"

😁😁😁

Riley dashes down the stairs as Mom and Dad enter the house. Dad is on the phone.

"Alright. Goodbye." He hangs up as he turns to Mom, "Well, guess what? The moving van won't be here until Thursday."

"You're kidding." Mom seemed shocked and flabbergasted.

😁😁😁

Back in the Headquarters, all the emotions seemed shocked.

"The van is lost?! This is the worst day ever!" Fear yelled.

"Oh...For the Love Of Valentines Day..." (Y/N) covered her mouth.

On the screen, Mom and Dad argue. As the emotions watch.

"You said it would be here yesterday!" Mom yelled.

"I know that's what I said....That's what they told me!" Dad replied back, yelling as well.

"Mom and Dad are stressed out!" Fear cried.

"They're arguing!" Disgust exclaimed.

"What are we going to do?" Sadness seemed like crying.

"Um...Umm.." (Y/N) tried to think of something.

"This is so stressful." Fear hyperventilated into his brown bag.

"What is their problem?" Anger yelled.

Joy runs to storage and grabs what looks to be a lightbulb, "I've got a great idea!" He clicks the IDEA into the console.

😁😁😁

Riley's face lights up. Riley grabs her hockey stick. Puts a wad of paper in play.

"Did you even read the contract?" Mom asked.

"Honey, you act like this is my fault–" Dad stopped by the random wad of paper on the floor near Riley.

"Andersen makes her move. She's closing in!" Riley smiled as she used her hockey stick.

Dad grabs a broom, "Hey! Oh, no you're not!"

"She's lining up for the shot!" Riley smiled brightly.

"Coming behind you! Watch out!" Dad smirked as Riley slid past him.

She knocks the 'puck' into the fireplace, "She shoots and she scores! Yeah!" Riley cheers.

😁😁😁

In Headquarters, The Emotions cheer. Out the back window, Family Island runs. As (Y/N)'s eyes sparkle at the sight of the family having fun together as Joy couldn't help but stare in wonder.

😁😁😁

Back in the living room, Riley turned to her Mother and smiled.

Riley started taunting Mom, "Come on, Grandma!"

"Ha! 'Grandma?'" Mom laughed.

😁😁😁

Back inside of the Headquarters, Joy smirked as the other emotion watched with excitement.

"Uh-oh, she put her hair up, we're in for it!" Joy narrowed his eyes with a smile.

😁😁😁

Inside the living room once again, they all play hockey, Mom using a pillow to guard the 'goal.' Dad picks her up to shoot past her.

Mom laughed, "Woo! Hey, put me down!" Dad scoops up Riley, too as Riley giggles.

😁😁😁

Back in Headquarters, a happy memory rolls in. Joy's back in charge. As Joy smiled with anticipation as another memory rolled in, love.

[Family Love]

😁😁😁

In the living room, the family seems to be having fun until, Dad's cell phone beeps.

Dad pauses, "Ugh. Sorry, hold on, hold on." He takes the phone out of his pocket and answers, "Hello?"

😁😁😁

Back in Headquarters the emotions look at Joy confused and kind of stressed.

"Wait. Wha--?" Joy stepped forward as he stared at the screen.

😁😁😁

Back in the living room, Dad is still on the phone as Riley and Mom watch nearby.

"You're kidding. All right. Stall for me, I'll be right there." Dad hangs up as he puts his phone away into his pocket and rubs his head, "The investor's supposed to show up on Thursday, not today! I gotta go."

😁😁😁

Inside the Headquarters, Joy is disappointed. As (Y/N) pats his back.

😁😁😁

Back inside the Living Room, Mom notices Riley's discouraged expression as she smiles softly. Mom pats Riley's back as she looks at her husband.

"It's okay. We get it." Mom smiled sweetly.

Dad gave a kind smile back, "You're the best. Thanks, Hon." He turns to Riley, as he leaves, "See you, Sweetie."

😁😁😁

Back in Headquarters once again, the emotions, except for (Y/N) and Joy are freaking out.

"Dad just left us." Fear screams and runs around.

"Oh, he doesn't love us anymore." Sadness looked down sadly, "That's sad. I should drive, right?" Sadness makes her way for the control panel as Joy blocks Sadness, "Joy? What are you doing?"

"Joy...maybe Sadness should–" (Y/N) was interrupted.

"Uh, just uh, gimme one second... You know what I've realized?" Joy smiled, slightly stressfully, "Riley hasn't had lunch!" Joy takes a memory off the wall and plays it, "Remember?"

The memory plays as it shows the pizza shop from earlier. The emotions share a look and nod as they look back at the screen.

😁😁😁

Riley shakes her head, "Hey I saw a pizza place down the street. Maybe we could try that?" Riley suggests.

"Pizza sounds delicious!" Mom smiled kindly.

😁😁😁

In the Headquarters, the emotions, except for Sadness, seemed happy by this sudden take away.

"Yeah!" Fear smiled.

"Pizza!" Anger nods.

"Good idea, Joy." Disgust crossed her arms.

"Smart as always!" (Y/N) nudged Joy as Joy smiled and his cheeks flushed a bit

😁😁😁

Later, inside of the Pizza Place, Riley and Mom get their pizza. On it was broccoli?!

😁😁😁

Inside the Headquarters, the emotions stare at the screen in shock. Especially Joy, himself.

"What the HECK IS THAT?!" Anger yelled.

"Who puts broccoli on pizza?" Fear questioned.

"That's it. I'm done." Disgust walked off.

"Congratulations, San Francisco, you've ruined pizza!" Anger yelled, "First the Hawaiians, and now YOU!"

😁😁😁

Outside of the Pizza Shop, Mom and Riley walk home. Riley looks disappointed.

Mom noticed, as always, and sighed, "What kind of a pizza place only serves one kind of pizza?" Riley looked to her Mom, "Must be a San Francisco thing, huh?" Mom nudged Riley, who slightly smiled.

😁😁😁

Back inside Headquarters, Joy glances at the wall of multi-colored memories. He sighs as things are not going well. (Y/N) on the other hand seems slightly happy at the multi-colored memories, it was colorful and kind of good for Riley to feel other things than happiness.

😁😁😁

Mom continues, "Still, it's not as bad as the soup at that diner in Nebraska."

Riley chuckles, "Oh yeah. The spoon stood up in the soup by itself! That was disgusting."

😁😁😁

Joy looked up, as we're back in headquarters, Joy looks out the back window. Family Island is going.

"Oh good. Family is running." Joy let out a sigh of relief as he looked back at the screen.

😁😁😁

"The drive out was pretty fun, huh?" Mom continued, "What was your favorite part?"

😁😁😁

Back in headquarters, the emotions take a minute to think about their favorite part.

"Spitting out the car window!" Anger yelled out.

Disgust rolled her eyes, "Definitely not when Dad was singing."

"Wearing a seat belt!" Fear smiled a bit.

"Seeing all the sights and taking pictures of all the things we loved!!" (Y/N) holds her camera close to her chest.

Joy thought and then smiled, "What about the time with the dinosaur!" Joy pulls up a memory.

"Yeah." Fear and Sadness nod.

"Yup." Anger smirked.

"That's the one." Disgust placed her hand on her hip.

"That place was the best!" (Y/N) smiled.

On the screen, Riley and Mom pose in front of a roadside cement dinosaur in Vernal, Utah.

Dad, on screen, smiled, "Say cheese!" Behind Dad, the car rolls down the hill, No brakes!

"Dad! Dad! Look behind you." Riley, on screen, laughed and smiled.

"Honey. The car! The car!" Mom, on screen, laughed as well and called to her husband.

"Hold still. Huh?" Dad, on screen, runs off after the car, "Stoooop! No no no nononono!!"

The Stegosaurus tail was through the back window. The family laughs. Enjoying the memory, Joy and the others chuckle.

"Nice one, Joy." Fear smiled.

"As always.." (Y/N) nudged Joy, who blushed and smiled.

*******************************************************************

Back out of Riley's mind, Riley's smiling, thinking about the memory, "I liked that time at the dinosaur. That was pretty funny." She smiled.

😁😁😁

Inside Headquarters, Joy's cheer is cut short when the dinosaur memory turns blue. The emotions pause, seeing the sudden change in the memory compared to Riley.

😁😁😁

Back outside of the mind, Riley's smile fades. As she looked down, seeming kind of sad, thinking about said memory.

😁😁😁

Inside Headquarters, Joy stared in confusion.

"Wait. What? What happened?" Joy looked back as he saw Sadness was touching the memory.

"She did something to the memory." Fear cried.

Joy tries to fix the memory, "What did you do?"

"Joy, let's calm down...everything will be alright!" (Y/N) looked at Sadness to Joy, "She didn't mean too...right?"

"I just touched it." Sadness looked down sadly.

"That shouldn't make it change." Joy exclaimed, trying to fix it.

"Maybe it's because it's an old memory?" (Y/N) questioned.

"Change it back, Joy!" Fear cried out once again.

Joy rubs it, but the memory stays blue, "I'm trying."

"You can't change it back?" Anger asked.

"No, I guess I can't!" Joy rubs his head.

Disgust rolls her eyes, "Good going Sadness. Now when Riley thinks of that moment with Dad, she's gonna feel sad. Bravo."

"Disgust...that's a bit harsh." (Y/N) sighed.

"I'm sorry Joy... I don't really know-- I thought maybe, if you– if I– if... I mean..." Sadness looked down.

Disgust looked at the screen, "Joy, we've got a stairway coming up."

Joy looked to the screen and sighed, smiling with excitement as he rushed up to the panel and fixed himself before pressing a button.

😁😁😁

Back outside the mind, Riley runs towards a stairway and handrail.

😁😁😁

In headquarters, Joy looked back at Sadness, "Just don't touch any other memories until we figure out what's going on." Joy ordered.

Sadness looked down, "Okay."

Joy stepped up to controls, "Alright. Get ready, this is a monster railing, and we are riding it all the way down!"

"Wooo!!" (Y/N) cheers, holding heart shaped Pom-Poms, "Gooo Riley!!"

😁😁😁

Back outside, Riley sits on the railing, ready to slide.

😁😁😁

In Headquarters, Joy looks back at Goofball Island, which is whirring like crazy.

😁😁😁

Back outside the mind, Riley goes to slide... but hops off and walks down instead. Which shocks all the emotions, except for the reason why.

😁😁😁

Joy seemed shocked as we went back into headquarters, "Wait, what? What happened?" Joy asked as he heard the ding of a core memory, turning to see if it was pink or yellow, suddenly a core memory rolls up to Joy's feet.

"A core memory!" Fear exclaimed.

"But...Joy is the only one who touched the panel...and I haven't..." (Y/N) seemed confused.

Joy noticed the color blue as the core memory, "Oh no!" Joy runs to look out the back window, Goofball Island goes dark as Joy rushes to the Core Memory Holder, "Sadness! What are you doing?"

"It looked like one was crooked so I opened it and then it fell out!" Sadness says, handing the now Blue Memory to Joy who Joy pops the memory back in as Goofball Island comes back on.

"Oh Thank Love!" (Y/N) sighs softly.

😁😁😁

Back outside the mind, Riley jumps back on the railing and slides down.

"Woo hoo!" Riley cheers.

😁😁😁

Into Headquarters once again, (Y/N) was cheering on Riley with her Pom-Poms.

"It's just that... I wanted to maybe hold one." Sadness reaches out to touch one, and it starts to go blue.

"JOY!" Fear yelled.

Joy pushes Sadness away before she can touch it, "Whoa, whoa, whoa!" The core memory turns back to yellow, "Sadness! You nearly touched a core memory. And when you touch them, we can't change them back!"

Sadness looked down, "I know. I'm sorry. Something's wrong with me. It's like I'm having a breakdown."

(Y/N) walks over, "You are not having a breakdown. It's just stress." She smiled sweetly, "Also...I handled the rest of the railing situation...so no worries!"

"I keep making mistakes like that. I'm awful..." Sadness sniffles.

"Nooo, you're not." (Y/N) pats Sadness head.

"...and annoying." Sadness continued.

"Well... uh... You know what?" Joy intervenes, "You can't focus on what's going wrong. There's always a way to turn things around, to find the fun!" Joy smiled widely.

"Yeah. Find the fun." Sadness paused before looking at Joy, "I don't know how to do that."

"Okay. Well, try to think of something funny!" Joy looked at (Y/N), "You handle the Panel and I'll handle this." (Y/N) smiled and nods before walking over to the Panel with Fear, Anger, and Disgust behind her.

Long pause, "Oh! Remember the funny movie where the dog dies?"

"Yeah, that's not..." Joy tries another approach, "What about that time with Meg, when Riley laughed so hard milk came out of her nose? I mean come on..." Joy picked up a memory of Riley spitting milk out of her nose, Meg laughing.

"Yeah, that hurt. It felt like fire." Sadness looked down sadly.

Joy forced a smile, "Okay, okay, don't think of that. Let's try something else. What are your favorite things to do?"

"My favorite? Um, well, I like it when we're outside." Sadness said.

"That's good! Like there's the beach and sunshine... Oh! Like that time we buried Dad in the sand up to his neck?" Joy put the memory away and grabbed another memory where Riley was at the beach, Dad buried in sand.

"I was thinking more like rain." Sadness gestured to her very few memories, one of Riley standing in a downpour.

"Rain?" Joy paused, "Rain... is my favorite too! We can stomp around in puddles..." Joy once again placed the memory away and pulled out a memory with Riley happily jumping through puddles, "There's cool umbrellas, lightning storms..."

"More like when the rain runs down our back and makes our shoes soggy. And we get all cold and shivery..." Sadness pointed to the same memory again with Riley's shoes filled with water as she looked miserable, "...and everything just starts feeling droopy..." Sadness melts to the floor, crying.

"Oh, hey, hey... easy. Why are you crying?" Joy rolled his eyes, "That's really the opposite of what we're going for here."

"Crying helps me slow down and obsess over the weight of life's problems." Sadness cried.

"Ugh, you know what? Let's think about something else. How about we read some mind manuals, huh?" Joy forced a smile, "Sounds fun!" He drags Sadness over to a shelf of technical manuals.

"I've read most of them." Sadness informed Joy.

"Well have you read this one? This seems interesting...'Long-Term Memory Retrieval, Volume 47?'" Joy forced another smile.

"No." Sadness looked at it.

"Ohhh! A real page turner!" Joy hands Sadness the manual.

Sadness opens the manual and reads, "...'Long-Term Memory Data Selection via channel sub-grouping?'..."

"See? Fun already! You lucky dog, you're reading these cool things and I gotta go work." Joy pointed back to the Panel, "Life is so unfair." Joy walks away, but just as he thinks things are handled.

DING! Another memory -- Disgust -- slides in. Joy groans and quickly walks to the four other emotions.

😁😁😁

Back with Riley, Riley hops down the stairs towards the living room. As she sees her Dad on the phone.

"What can we do? We've only got capital to last a month, maybe two. If we can't find investors by then, we're going to have to lay people off." Dad groaned as he looked to his wife.

Riley hears the stress in Dad's voice, "Mom! Dad! Come kiss me g'night!"

Mom smiled and waved to her, "Be right there!"

"I know, I know! We've got to land this, okay?" Dad yelled as Riley headed back upstairs.

😁😁😁

Moments later in Riley's room, Riley climbs into her sleeping bag.

😁😁😁

Back in Headquarters.

"Did you hear Dad? He sounded really upset." Fear gulps

😁😁😁

In Riley's Room, strange noises are heard from outside. Headlights cast shadows on the wall. Riley looks scared.

😁😁😁

Back in Headquarters.

"What was that? Was it a bear?" Fear asked fearfully, "It's a bear!"

"There are no bears in San Francisco!" Disgust stated the obvious.

"I saw a really hairy guy. He looked like a bear." Anger crossed his arms.

"Bears are much more hairy than that guy was.." (Y/N) noted, "Also we shouldn't say people look like bears..."

"Oh, I'm so jumpy, my nerves are shot!" Fear shakes in place as (Y/N) tries to comfort him.

"Ew, I don't want to hear about your nerves!" Disgust looked away, disturbed.

"I'll tell you what it is. This move has been a bust." Anger slammed his hands on the free space of the panel.

"That's what I've been telling you guys! There are at least 37 things for Riley to be scared of right now!" Fear cried.

"The smell alone is enough to make her gag." Disgust almost barfed as Joy slowly backed up from the panel.

"Joy...?" (Y/N) placed her hand on Joy's shoulder as he turned around and took a deep breath, smiling.

"I can't believe Mom and Dad moved us here!" Anger yelled.

"Look, I get it. You guys have concerns." Joy smiled at (Y/N) before walking up to the three, "But we've been through worse! Tell you what: let's make a list of all the things Riley should be happy about!" Joy smiled widely.

"That'll work! It will get our minds off of everything...not so happy about this place!" (Y/N) forced a smile.

Anger rolled his eyes, "Fine. Let's see... this house stinks, our room stinks..."

"Pizza is weird here..." Disgust remembered the pizza.

"Our friends are back home..." Sadness exclaimed from her circle.

"And all of our stuff is in the missing van!" Fear cried.

"Oh c'mon, it could be worse..." Joy scoffed with a smirk.

"Yeah, Joy. We could be lying on the dirty floor. In a bag." Disgust pointed to the screen where Riley is lying on the dirty floor in a sleeping bag.

"Okay, I admit it, we had a rough start. But think of all the good things that–" Joy was interrupted.

"No, Joy. There's absolutely no reason for Riley to be happy right now." Anger shooed Joy back a bit, "Let us handle this."

"I say we skip school tomorrow and lock ourselves in the bedroom." Fear suggest.

"We have no clean clothes. I mean, no one should see us." Disgust crossed her arms.

Sadness got up and walked to them, "Yeah, we could cry until we can't breathe."

"I mean...we need to still breathe, Sadness...but crying is good for the body!" (Y/N) smiled softly.

"We should lock the door and scream that curse word we know. It's a good one!" Anger smiled an angry smile.

"Now hold on! Look, we all have our off days. You know, I–" Joy paused as he noticed on the screen, Mom was entering Riley's room.

😁😁😁

On the screen, Mom opens Riley's bedroom door.

"Hi honey." Mom smiled softly.

"The Mom Bad News Train is pulling in! Toot toot!" Anger exclaimed from off-screen.

Mom sits next to Riley, "Still no moving van. Now they're saying it won't be here 'til Tuesday, can you believe it?" Mom says.

"Toot toot toot!" Anger, from off-screen, yells.

"Where's Dad?" Riley asked.

"On the phone." Mom sighs, "This new venture is keeping him pretty busy. Your dad's a little stressed...you know, about getting his new company up and running..." Mom looked down.

Anger smirked, looking away from the screen, "I rest my case!"

Joy sighs. He falls back from the controls, (Y/N) pats Joy on the back as Joy rests his head on, a now slightly flustered, (Y/N). Anger steps up to the console.

"Now for a few well-placed withering scowls." Anger prepared to press the button.

Back on the screen, Anger looked up with a smirk as Mom spoke, "I guess all I really want to say is: thank you." Anger paused and backed up a bit as Joy stared up quickly, Anger dropped the controls, "You know, through all this confusion you've stayed... well, you've stayed our happy girl!" Mom brushes Riley's cheek, "Your dad's under a lot of pressure. But if you and I can keep smiling, it would be a big help. We can do that for him, right?" Mom smiled.

Joy, smiling with renewed purpose, steps back to the console, "Whoa! Well." Joy laughed as (Y/N) stared at him and smiled lovingly before being nudged by a knowing Disgust with a smirk before (Y/N) chuckled nervously and looked away.

Back on the screen, Riley smiles, "Yeah! Sure."

"What did we do to deserve you?" Mom kisses Riley's forehead, "Sweet dreams."

"Good night." Riley smiled.

"Well, you can't argue with Mom. 'Happy' it is." Anger smiled, all now looking away from the screen.

"Team Happy!" Fear smiled and gave a thumbs up, "Sounds great!"

"I'm totally behind you, Joy." Disgust smiled.

"You've got this as always, Joy!" (Y/N) smiled with excitement, and love.

Joy looked up at the screen to see Riley go to sleep. The screen goes black.

"Looks like we're going into REM." Joy looked at a list, "I got Dream Duty, so I'll take care of sending these to Long Term." The other emotion sighed, "Great day today, guys! Sleep well, TEAM HAPPY!" The team heads off to bed, except for (Y/N) as a harp music plays.

"Hey...Joy! Mind if I...do Dream Duty with you tonight?" (Y/N) smiled nervously, "I mean...I love seeing the dreams with you...and I love..." (Y/N)'s cheeks flushed, "THE WAY THE LONG TERM ROLLS! Colors YAY!" Joy chuckled at the optimism.

"Of course you can do Dream Duty and Long Term with me!" Joy smiled, "We're the Dream Team, as I say...you can't have Love with Joy!" Joy joked but blushed a bit with a smile, as he escorted (Y/N) to a seat as the two sat down, "Alright, what's on tonight, Dream Production?"

On the screen, a dream comes up. The family flies happily through the air in the car. They land in front of the house.

"Well, this is it. The new place." Dream Dad said, "...except it's haunted!" Organ music, ghosts howling.

The dead mouse rises up into frame, "Come live with me, Riley!" The mouse falls over, dead.

A bear enters, holding a pizza, "Somebody order a broccoli pizza?"

The pizza slices hop up and dance a jig, "Eat me! I'm organic!"

Joy gulped at the screen as he noticed Riley frowning in her sleep, he looked over to see (Y/N) was terrified, "Ah, NO, who is in charge of programming down there?!" Joy pressed a few buttons, "I know I'm not supposed to do this, but..." Joy ducks behind the console and reboots it as the dream ends.

"Geez...Someone is Mr. Troublemaker tonight!" (Y/N) chuckled as Joy rubbed the back of his neck, embarrassed as the two looked to the screen and noticed Riley still looked troubled, "We are not going to end the day like this." (Y/N) has a thought, she recalls a memory, pressing the buttons to make it appear on the screen.

Joy looked to the screen and sat back next to (Y/N), Riley ice skates with her parents. Joy watches, loving this kid, and maybe the girl next to him. He grabs (Y/N)'s hand, as they follow Riley, 'skating' around headquarters together as they look at each other and smile. Once it was over, Joy wish (Y/N) a good night as (Y/N) walked off to bed with a smile. Joy blushed, watching her walk off before sighing happily. He turned to look at the memory playing out.

"Don't you worry. I'm gonna make sure that tomorrow is another great day. I promise." Joy smiled happily as he noticed Riley smiles in her sleep.

😁😁😁

In the kitchen, the next morning, Riley excitedly snarfs down breakfast cereal.

😁😁😁

While in headquarters, Joy plays the accordion around Headquarters. The others, except (Y/N), appear, looking grumpy. Joy yells over the noise.

"Hello! Did I wake you?" Joy smiled widely.

Anger grumbled, "DO you have to play that?"

"Well, I have to practice. And I don't think of it as playing so much as hugging." Joy tosses aside the accordion and runs off.

(Y/N) yawns and is already dressed, walking next to Joy, "Okay, first day of school!" (Y/N) smiled as Joy handed her a cup of coffee.

"Very, very exciting! I was up late last night figuring out a new plan. Here it is." Joy turned to Fear, "Fear! I need a list of all the possible negative outcomes on the first day at a new school."

"Way ahead of you there. Does anyone know how to spell 'meteor?'" Fear asked as (Y/N) slowly started to spell it out.

"Disgust! Make sure Riley stands out today... but also blends in." Joy informed Disgust of her job.

"When I'm through, Riley will look so good the other kids will look at their own outfits and barf." Disgust walked off.

Joy then addressed himself, "Joy!" He moves, "Yes Joy?" He moved back, "You'll be in charge of the console, keeping Riley happy all day long. And may I add I love your suit, it's adorable." Joy moved back, "Oh, This ol' thing? Thank you so much, I love the way it makes me look.." TOOT TOOT! A TRAIN rushes by outside, "Train of Thought! Right on schedule." The engineer waves from the cab and drops off a large bag, "Anger! Unload the daydreams. I ordered extra in case things get slow in class."

"Might come in handy, if this new school is full of boring useless classes, which it probably will be..." Anger paused as Sadness walked by.

Joy stops her, "Oh - Sadness! I have a super important job just for you."

Sadness seemed slightly surprised, "Really?"

"Mmm-hmmm. Follow me." Joy forced a smile, "(Y/N) is in charge until I come back!" Joy walked off.

😁😁😁

We cut to the back of the room, where Joy draws a chalk circle on the floor around Sadness's feet.

"What are you doing?" Sadness asked.

Joy finishes the circle, "And... there. Perfect." Joy stepped back, "This is the circle of Sadness. Your job is to make sure that all the Sadness stays inside of it."

"So... you want me to just stand here?" Sadness asked, kind of disappointed.

"Hey, it's not MY place to tell you how to do your job. Just make sure–" Joy starts nudging Sadness' foot back over the line, "–ALL the Sadness stays in the circle." Sadness stands there, "See? You're a pro at this! Isn't this fun?!"

"No." Sadness replied.

Joy started heading to the console, "Atta girl." Joy stood next to (Y/N), "Finally, (Y/N) will be my right hand, as always..." (Y/N) nodded with a smile, "Alright everyone, fresh start! We are gonna to have a good day, which will turn into a good week, which will turn into a good year, which turns into a good LIFE!" Joy smiled widely.

😁😁😁

Back in the house, Mom helps Riley with her backpack. Dad is on the phone.

"So, the big day! New school, new friends, huh?" Mom smiled.

"I know! I'm kinda nervous, but I'm mostly excited! How do I look?" Riley did a little spin, "Do you like my shirt?"

😁😁😁

In headquarters, Joy looks back at Family Island, working away.

😁😁😁

"Very cute!" Mom smiled sweetly, as we were back in the house, "You gonna be okay? You want us to walk with you?" Mom suggested.

😁😁😁

In headquarters, Disgust seemed taken aback by the thought.

"Mom and Dad? With us in public? No thank you." Disgust grumbled.

"But it would be nice to..." (Y/N) sighed, "...You know what...self love and time is important." (Y/N) nods.

Joy was operating the console, "I'm on it." Joy presses a button.

😁😁😁

Riley smiled softly, "Nope, I'm fine. Bye Mom! Bye Dad!"

Dad quickly covers the phone, "Have a good day at school, Monkey!" All three make monkey sounds at each other.

😁😁😁

As back in headquarters, Goofball Island works out the back window.

😁😁😁

Riley giggles as she exits the house.

"Have a great day, sweetheart." Mom waves.

Riley walks away from the house, walking all the way to her new school. Riley walks up to her new school. New kids everywhere. She hesitates.

"Are you sure we want to do this?" Fear mutters from off-screen.

"In we go!" Joy, off-screen, makes the decision for them.

"Okayyy! Going in! Yes." Fear gulped.

Riley perks up and walks in. As she walked to where her new classroom is. Riley sits at her desk and looks at the other kids in class.

"Okay, we've got a group of cool girls at 2 o'clock." Disgust, off-screen, said.

"How do you know?" (Y/N) asked, off-screen.

😁😁😁

Back in headquarters, Disgust points to the popular girls.

"Double ears pierced, infinity scarf..." Disgust stated the obvious.

A group of makeup-wearing girls look back at Riley.

"Whoa. Is she wearing eye shadow?" (Y/N) seemed shocked, "I love the color!!"

"Yeah, we want to be friends with them." Disgust nods.

"Let's go talk to 'em!" Joy was about to press a button until Disgust stopped him.

"Are you kidding?? We're not TALKING to them, we want them to like us." Disgust states.

"Oh!" Joy paused as he then looked down, "Wait, what?"

Fear drops a giant stack of paper on the console, "Almost finished with the potential disasters." Fear smiles, "Worst scenario is either quicksand, spontaneous combustion, or getting called on by the teacher. So as long as none of those happen..."

😁😁😁

In the classroom, the teacher walks up to the front and smiled at the class.

"Okay, everybody. We have a new student in class today." The teacher says.

"Are you kidding me?! Out of the gate? This is not happening!" Fear cried from off-screen.

"Riley, would you like to tell us something about yourself?" The teacher gestured to Riley as everyone turned to face her.

"Nooooooo! Pretend we can't speak English!" Fear cried.

"Don't worry. I got this." The sounds of Joy pushing a lever can be head off-screen.

"Uhh... okay. My name is Riley Andersen. I'm from Minnesota. And now I live here." Riley states.

"And how about Minnesota?... Can you tell us something about it?" The teacher asked, "Well you certainly get a lot more snow than we do."

Joy laughs, "She's hilarious!" Another sound of Joy turning a lever.

Riley smiles, in spite of all the eyes on her, "Yeah, it gets pretty cold. The lake freezes over, and that's when we play hockey. I'm on a great team. We're called the Prairie Dogs. My friend Meg plays forward. My Dad's the coach. Pretty much everyone in my family skates." Riley rants.

😁😁😁

Back in headquarters, Joy recalls a memory of the family skating together as he presses a button to bring it up.

😁😁😁

In the classroom, Riley 'watches' the memory, smiling, "It's a kind of family tradition. We go out on the lake almost every weekend."

😁😁😁

Joy smiles as the other emotions watch with contentment. Then, mysteriously, the image turns blue as the emotion's seemed shocked.

😁😁😁

Back in the classroom, Riley's smile fades, her brow furrows.

"Or we did, 'til I moved away." Riley looked down sadly.

😁😁😁

The emotions seemed confused, as Joy looked around for the cause of the issue.

"Huh?" Fear looked confused.

"Hey, what gives?" Anger yelled.

"What?" Disgust tilts her head to the side.

"Joy, what's going..." (Y/N) turned around, "Oh no..." Joy looked confused until he turned around.

"Hey–" Joy spots Sadness, who is guiltily touching the memory, "Sadness! You touched a memory?! We talked about this."

"Oh yeah, I know. I'm sorry." Sadness looked down sadly.

"Get back in your circle." Joy trying to eject memory, "Gnnh! What's going on? Why won't it eject?!!" Joy looked to (Y/N), "(Y/N)...mind helping me?" (Y/N) walks over as the two fiddle with the console, but the blue memory won't move.

"Get it out of there, Joy!" Fear cried as they all looked to see Riley.

"We used to play tag and stuff..." Riley sniffled.

"Cool kids whispering at 3 o'clock!" Disgust pointed to the other kids whisper and stare.

"Did you see that look?!? They're judging us!" Fear cried.

"Oh no." Joy tries pulling the memory as Anger, Fear and Disgust help, "Somebody help me. Grab that... everybody..." They pull with all their might, but the memory's not budging.

(Y/N) stood by the panel as she watched with horror, trying to think of something to do as she watched Riley. One of (Y/N)'s eyes turned an odd shade of (f/c) as the heart in her eye faded away and seemed dull.

"But everything's different now. Since we moved..." Riley had tears stream down Riley's face.

Fear looked over to see the panel change an odd dark purple but ignored it, "Oh no! We're CRYING AT SCHOOL!!!" He noticed it had changed to blue.

Joy turned to the console as he saw Sadness was driving, "What? No! Sadness, what are you doing?" Joy finally yanks the memory out as he runs to the console and pulls Sadness away from the controls, "(Y/N)!" He looked at (Y/N) and noticed she was turned away from him, "...(Y/..." He decided to give her space as he pressed a few buttons.

"Oh no, I'm sorry... I... oh..." Sadness paused.

PING! A memory is created, a bright blue memory.

"Is...that..." (Y/N) seemed slightly shocked but also loved it.

"Huh?" Joy's jaw dropped.

"Whoa!" Anger seemed impressed.

"It's a core memory!" Fear shrieked.

"But it's blue!" Disgust pointed out.

The bright blue core memory rolls through the memory shelf and as it starts to roll towards the Core Memory Holder!

"No wait... stop it! No! Ahh!" Joy leaps to the holder and pops it open, preventing the new blue core memory from going in.

Joy grabs it. He pushes the end-of-day 'memory flush' button. The tube comes down from the ceiling.

Sadness trying to take her memory back from Joy, "Joy, no. That's a core memory, Joy!"

"Hey! Stop it. Let go."

As they struggle, they bump into the Core Memory Holder, knocking all the core memories onto the floor. As (Y/N) rushed to help pick them up, being close to the fighting duo.

"Ahh!" The three remaining emotions yell.

"The core memories!" Fear screams.

Out the window, the Island of personalities goes dark. As on screen, Riley, her face tear-stained, looks up.

"Ahh!" Joy tosses the blue core memory aside to help (Y/N) collect the yellow core memories.

Sadness grabs the blue core memory and heads to the Core Memory Holder to plug it in. Joy notices lunges, knocking the blue core memory out of Sadness's hands. It is sucked up by the vacuum tube. Joy trips backward. In the chaos a yellow core memory rolls toward the tube.

"No, no, no, no!" Joy reaches to grab it and gets sucked up the tube himself, along with the other core memories.

"Joy!!" (Y/N) tripped on a memory that was on the floor and bumps into Sadness as the two are also pulled away by the tubes.

Fear, Anger and Disgust now stand alone in Headquarters. A stunned silence as the tube retracts.
