My 100% favorite author is Neil Gaiman, author of American Gods, Coraline, and other fantastic works of literature. Recently, I finished American Gods, a story about the clash between the old gods of immigrants, who moved to America from all over the world and brought their deities with them, and the new gods, drugs, sex, technology, money, etc, of modern society. By far, American Gods is my absolute favorite novel.

Last night, I visited Gaiman's official website, www.neilgaiman.com. I immediately bookmarked the website, which I never do. The only other bookmarked website on my phone is biblegateway.com.

If Gaiman is as important as the Bible, I should be concerned...

On the website, I learned about Gaiman's contributions to films and television series. When I learned next exploded my mind and increased my admiration for Gaiman by 220%

According to the website, Gaiman wrote the English script, yet experienced several complications. The studios Gaiman worked with actually bounced him off the project and rejected his script, giving the position to another man. The reaction to the initial showing of Princess Mononoke was so negative that the studios asked Gaiman to rework the script. Although many aspects of Gaiman's original script could not be adapted into the English movie, Gaiman successfully fixed many flawed aspects of the new script and increased Princess Mononoke's popularity.

I was awestruck when I heard about Gaiman's contribution to my favorite Ghibli movie. I've watched both the English and Japanese versions of Princess Mononoke and I find the English version to be highly accurate and well-produced.

If, somehow, you haven't been awestruck by the awesomeness of Neil Gaiman, I highly suggest reading his novels. Start with The Ocean At The End Of The Lane, then we'll talk. Or read American Gods, if you're old enough.
