Chapter 3 - Mishaps
*IAN'S POV*
Gosh, Crainer is so freaking cute. There is something I've learned about him, though. His reactions to everything aren't exaggerated for entertainment purposes. His reactions are real. I love that about him.
He's such a good... friend.
"I need to know... if this is mutual! Before I go... and get way too involved!"
I didn't realize I was singing along to Shawn Mendes until Crainer walked in, holding a camera and prepared to prank me. I didn't even hear him come in.
"I want you bad... can you reciprocate? No, I don't want to have to leave. But half of you is not enough for me!" I sang.
Suddenly, I heard quiet laughter from outside of my headphones. I quickly pulled them off and turned around to see Crainer and the camera.
"Oh my god," Crainer laughed. "This is perfect! They're going to love this!"
I was scared. "Crainer, delete the footage." For once, I wasn't laughing.
Crainer giggled adorably. "Nope! This is priceless! Hey, what if I told you this was a livestream?"
"Oh, god, no!" I yelled, tackling Crainer onto the bed. Crainer yelped in surprise as he fell backwards.
"Chill out, dude! It's not a livestream!" Crainer reassured me, surprised by my sudden actions. When he saw the tears coming out from my eyes, he quickly stopped the camera and put it aside. "Ian, what's wrong?"
"I... I didn't know I was singing out loud... a-and you have no right to record me without my permission!" I yelled.
I've always been extremely self-conscious about my singing voice. That's why my karaoke video was so awkward. I was terrified of posting it, but the viewers had demanded it.
"Hey, hey, it's okay, Ian," Crainer said, still pinned down by me. "I promise I won't post it, okay? I'll delete it right now..."
"Forget it, Ben," I sighed. I could tell Crainer was shocked at me calling him by his real name.
"I'm sorry, Ian," Crainer said quickly. "I... I didn't know it would..."
"I said forget it!" I shouted before running out of the room. Crainer sighed and slumped down on the bed.
"Hey, Ian," Thea said as I passed her in the hallway. I ignored her and even bumped her on purpose. Thea tilted her head in confusion. I didn't care. I stormed outside and sat in Crainer's backyard, sighing as the tears rolled down my cheeks.
CRAINER'S POV
I laid down on my bed, staring at my camera and wondering how I'd screwed up. Ian just arrived in Denmark, what, two days ago? And I'd already managed to drive him away.
"Hey, honey," Thea said to me in Danish. "Are you okay? Ssundee seemed a little... off. He just stormed out."
"I screwed up, Thea," I sighed, a single tear streaking down my face. She sat down on the bed and wrapped her arms around me.
For a split second, a thought crossed my mind, but I quickly pushed it away. Sometimes thoughts just come into your mind, uninvited, but you don't actually believe them. That's all it was... right?
"Just go apologize to him," Thea told me.
I sniffed as more tears found their way on my cheeks. Thea turned me around to face her. She wiped a tear from my cheek.
"You're such a savage," I said with a small smile. Thea looked down and laughed. She was truly beautiful. I was... so happy... to have her. I would never love anyone else...
"Go on. Make up with him," Thea chuckled as she grabbed my hands and tried to pull me off the bed. I stood up, still holding her hands. I leaned down and kissed her, reassuring myself that she was the only one I'd ever love. She kissed me back, gentle and slow. I smiled. I love Thea so much.
"I'll be back, honey," I said, still speaking in Danish before walking outside.
I breathed in the fresh air and sighed. It had really been too long since I'd been outside. It was truly refreshing.
But there was no time for that. I had to find Ian.
I found him sitting on the grass with his head resting on his knees. I walked up to him. He heard my footsteps and turned around to face me. He was no longer crying.
"I'm so sorry, Ian," I apologized as I sat down next to him on the grass. "I never meant to make you feel bad."
"I've never shared my singing voice with anyone. That karaoke video? It was a joke. I made my voice sound terrible because... I'm so nervous about sharing it for real. It's awful... I sound awful..."
I shook my head. "No, Ian, you have such an amazing voice. You shouldn't be so self-conscious about it."
Ian looked up at me, his blue eyes shining in the sunlight.
"But, I understand. It's really scary to share yourself with the world," I explained. "I've felt the same way about some things."
"Like what?" Ian asked.
I chuckled nervously. "You don't need to know. Not yet, anyway. I-I trust you, but..."
"It's okay, Ben," Ian said with a small smile. "I... I can call you that, right?"
I smiled. "Sure. Yeah. It's better than Elmo."
Ian laughed. "Sorry about that, by the way. It's just a really funny joke."
"I don't think it's funny," I confessed, looking away from Ian, so I wouldn't have to see his reaction. "All the viewers... they make fun of me, too."
"I'm so sorry... I didn't know how you felt about it," Ian told me. "I'll stop calling you that."
"I... I wouldn't be as affected by it if I wasn't so ugly," I admitted, looking down and biting my tongue to keep the tears from coming.
"You're not ugly, Ben," Ian replied, grabbing me and making me look at him. He blushed slightly. "You're not ugly at all."
I quickly looked away, my face turning redder by the second. I was unable to stop smiling.
We stayed outside, sitting and watching the sunset without really talking much. But it wasn't awkward at all.
In fact, it was pleasant.
