-Naruto-
I knew how beautiful Hinata was.
But seeing her so focused and typing at a keyboard is a whole 'nother sight to behold. On top of that, we're the only ones left in the room. Hinata made everybody else go to the server room to set up the perimeter router Sasuke got a couple hours ago.
I stayed with her, watching and helping as much as I could. It took a minute for me to understand what she was trying to do but I figured it out instantly. I was sitting next to her on the computer. According to her, we're on the third step of the entire wall: setting up the VPN.
"How about New York?" I asked, turning to her.
"Good idea. There's millions of servers there we can bounce use and the hackers would waste time trying to figure it out." She nodded.
I smiled at the compliment. "Where you setting yours?"
"London." Hinata answered, glancing down at the keyboard quickly. "Another epicenter filled with servers. I'm pretty sure the companies there won't mind us borrowing it. If they find out."
As illegal as that sounded, I didn't want to nag her about it. The VPN is only temporary until we're sure the hackers are done with Sunagakure. Once the threat passes, Hinata promised to come back and help them uppen up their cyber defenses.
We worked side by side, setting up two of the three VPNs for about another hour. I was first to finish so I just leaned back on my chair and groaned.
Hinata turned to me, concern etched in her brows. "You okay, Naruto?"
"Yeah." I yawned. "I would kill for some fresh air."
She smiled at me. "You can go outside for a bit. I'm almost done here and then I'll get to work with the last one."
"Where you setting it up?"
"Kyoto." My employee answered. "Give them a little fake before they have to basically cross the world."
This girl is truly a genius.
"Then I'll wait for you and we can both go outside for some air afterwards." I responded.
"You sure?"
I nodded. "Just do what you have to do and we can go."
"Thank you." And just like that, her attention is off me.
I crossed my arms and pretended I was staring at the monitor in front of her. Her eyes scanned the lines so quickly, too. I guess the benefit of being a Hyuga are those 25/20 eyesight. Nothing can get pass them.
I snuck a glance at her side profile and mentally gulped. Her cheeks puffed out a bit; she's probably holding her breath as she waited for the VPN service to approve of her work. She let out a cute, 'okay' when the green check mark appeared on her screen. Suddenly, a strand of her raven hair drifted forward, making her blink a bit.
My hand started moving automatically; way before my brain could register what my body was trying to do. Then her hand reached up and she tucked the loose strand behind her ear.
Help.
I definitely need help.
"Is everything okay, Naruto?" Hinata moved to look at me.
I quickly retreated my hand. Maybe a little too quick.
The next thing I knew, I slipped out of the rolling computer chair and my ass ate hard floor.
"Naruto!" Hinata exclaimed, turning her chair towards me. Her face wrinkled with absolute concern and her eyes doing multiple scans of my body.
Ow.
Not to the physical pain.
But my poor ego.
"I'm okay!" I answered. "I'm okay."
She left her seat regardless. The next time our eyes met, she was kneeled in front of me.
She's so close!
"Are you 100% sure?" Hinata asked again.
I gulped. I could just reach out right here. Pull her in and just let her scent engulf me entirely. I wanted to so badly and I just don't know why.
Why do I feel this? What are these? I need to figure out the codes for these feelings!
Maybe that way I can truly understand why my heart goes into overdrive every time I'm around her.
"What are we shooting a Korean drama in here?" Sasuke's annoying voice echoed through the room.
Fucker always knows how to destroy moments.
"Shut the hell up." I snapped at him.
Hinata's cheeks were bright red as she pulled her seat back and returned to her work. I sat there, just watching her from where I am for a second more. I could do this all day if time permitted.
Sadly.
Not the time.
I finally climbed to my feet with a heavy sigh. "What do you want?"
Sasuke just smirked as he walked up to us. "I'm oh so sorry for ruining the shoot, director."
"I will kill you." I hissed.
That only made him chuckle. "Anyways. Everything in the server room is set up. What are we doing now?"
"Now we just wait." Hinata answered. "I'm almost done setting up the Juniper firewall. After that, we can only hope that's enough."
I crossed my arms, impressed. "You know how to set up a Juniper firewall?"
Hinata nodded. "It's my very own." She reached into her purse and pulled out a flash drive. "Hopefully it's enough."
Hm.
"Can I add on to that firewall?" I asked.
Hinata looked at me. "What do you want to do?"
I smirked. "You're not the only genius here." I held out a hand for the flash drive. "You mind?"
Hinata looked hesitant. I get it. Messing with anybody's firewall is a stab at the pride you have as a software developer but I wanted to... in a way impress her.
Nevertheless, she gave me her flash drive.
"Why am I still here?" Sasuke sighed, standing up.
"Oh here's why." I reached into my back pocket and pulled out my wallet. "Can you get us all some coffee. Please and thank you."
Sasuke looked at my credit card with narrowed eyes. "What am I you're assistant?"
"You get a $200 limit and the rest if yours to do whatever."
Sasuke blinked. "Done."
---
"Everything is..." Hinata typed in the last few lines. "Finished!"
The group of people that returned into the room cheered.
I raised a hand at her direction and she happily gave me the high five. After the little coffee start, we just both sat and finished the entire thing for the next four hours. I didn't tell her what I did to her firewall but she uploaded it online regardless.
Gaara took her seat as he scrolled through the new security system. "You sure this is going to work?"
Hinata nodded. "I just need to stay here and stay in control. When they attack, I'd know how to deal with each blow in real time."
"Wait." I stopped. "Like stay here. In this building over night."
"Well, yeah. With my Juniper firewall, I need to be able to be here. It's kind of like a game. They attack, I attack. If that is okay with Mr. Gaara, of course."
"Okay." Gaara responded before I could say anything to protest. "You may stay here as long as you need. If they don't attack tonight, then you can stay tomorrow as well."
Hinata smiled at him. "Thank you."
Gaara cracked a small smile.
Oh HELL no.
I've known Gaara for a long while and he's never smiled!
Ever.
Then Hinata waltzes in and he's suddenly shooting her a smile?!
Check yourself, boy!
"I'll stay, too." I said, deadpanned.
Gaara looked at me, surprised. "Why?"
"Because!" I started. Damn, what's a good reason. "So she doesn't have to stay awake the entire night and she's my employee so I gotta take care of her!"
The fellow CEO just shrugged. "Sure. I don't see why not."
Before I could mentally celebrate, Shikamaru spoke up. "Can I not stay? I have a load of troublesome work I gotta finish back at Konoha."
"Nobody asked you, lazy." A woman with light blonde hair and jaded eyes muttered.
"And nobody asked you to answer." Shikamaru snapped at her.
She's scary.
Almost Tsunade scary.
"It'll just be me and Hinata. The rest of you can go home." I answered.
Gaara ordered the rest of his employees to do so as well.
Soon there was only three left in the room.
"If you need anything, the number to the security guards are on the computer. Naruto, you have my number. I'll be here in five minutes tops." Gaara said as he wandered towards the door.
"Yes, sir. Thank you." Hinata bowed.
"No, Miss Hinata." The CEO stopped at the door and gave her another smile.
Let me just...
"Thank you both for helping us."
Yeah get out of here chump! "Next lunch meeting is on you!" I called after him as the doors slid shut.
And now there were two.
Hinata sighed heavily and sat back down.
"Are you hungry?" I asked.
Hinata nodded. "I can just run to the convenience store though."
"I gotchu." I cut in immediately, then I stopped. "I didn't think this through. Do you have a change of clothes or anything in your bag?"
Hinata glanced down at her purse. "Oh. No. I left my casual clothes in my locker back at the company. I can -"
"I got it."
"How? You don't have your car here."
I really didn't think this through.
I sighed. "I'll get Sasuke and we can go. Are you going to be okay here alone until I get back?"
Hinata nodded. "You sure?"
"Just do your best to help these guys. That's all I ask for. It'll be a fat first paycheck for you in return, y'know." I smiled at her.
Hinata sighed but it seems like she gave up fighting with me. I walked towards the door of the security room and stole one last glance at her.
Her face was hidden by the monitors so yeah...sad boy hours but by now, I've already memorized every single little feature of it. I can just imagine her concentrating, with her eyebrows furrowed and her unique eyes shining with focus.
I finally left the room and pressed the button to slide the door behind me. Leaning against it, I exhaled a long breath to relax my mind. Today was a little more exciting than I had hoped. If it weren't for Hinata, I honestly don't think we would've been able to help Gaara and his company out as well as we did.
Then my heart stopped.
I didn't realize.
This is the first night Hinata and I are spending together. It didn't dawn on me until now because I was too busy trying to play the gallant knight and not leave a young lady in an unknown company building alone. Looking down at my outfit, I blushed at how disheveled it looked. My tie was crooked and loose, the top of my white button up were unbuttoned. Where is my suit jacket anyways?
I'm a mess.
Meanwhile, she's working just as hard as I was and she still managed to look absolutely perfect.
She must think I'm an absolute fool.
I shook my head.
Well, I should hurry and get back to her.
Thankfully when I called Sasuke, he was still just down the road. He was a little naggy about having to turn around but agreed anyways. I walked by the security desk in the front lobby and stopped.
"Guard the woman in the cybersecurity office carefully, alright?" I ordered.
One of the guys, the one on the right leaned back. "Oh you don't have to worry." A disgusting smirk spread across his smug face. "That hot babe ain't leaving my sight."
I ticked.
Huh....
"Dude, shut the fuck up." His partner nudged him roughly before standing up and apologizing. "We will personally make sure she is safe under this building's roof."
"Personally." The asshole chuckled under his breath.
If only it wasn't illegal to wipe that smug look off his face...I would personally love to remodel it into a look of defeat and fear.
My phone vibrated in my pocket indicating Sasuke was here.
"Just..." I growled, shooting daggers at the pervert. "Do your job, right."
Exiting the building, I jumped into Sasuke's car with a heavy sigh. "Step on it."
My best friend raised an eyebrow. "Oh hello, idiot, you're welcome for coming back and picking you up."
Relax, Naruto.
Relax.
Then an image of that security guard sneaking into the room where Hinata was flashed through my mind when I closed my eyes.
"Hurry!" I snapped, slipping the seatbelt across my body.
Sasuke just looked at me, bewildered.
"What?"
"Nothing." he replied and finally pulled away from the building.
A minute of silence passed between us. I sat, my head wandering about all the possible outcomes of leaving Hinata alone in a building with a pervert.
What if he does try something to hurt her?
Or worse...
He wasn't a bad looking dude.
What if...he tried to hit on her and she's up for it?
That's her personal life and I shouldn't be bothered by it if she decides to go for him.
But...
"You look more constipated than usual." Sasuke broke the silence. "What's going on with you?"
I really shouldn't care. Hinata has a life outside of the company and I'm pretty sure with her looks, guys are falling at her feet.
But, for some odd reason, I didn't like that thought.
I don't like it at all.
Hinata...she's special and delicate. Like a beautiful bonsai tree that needed the care and attention of someone who knows how to treat it right.
Guys nowadays only think about their man part and that's how they live their lives.
Hinata doesn't need that negativity in her life.
No, she needs that one man who knows just how to treat her the way she should.
But the next question is...who should it be?
And I honestly need to take my nose out of all of this. I'm her boss and maybe just a friend at most. Whoever she wants to date and love has nothing to do with me. It isn't in the realm of our professional relationship.
With that being said, however...
Something hard nudges my heart when I think about any man being Hinata's suitor.
I don't like the idea.
I don't like it.
It...
Hurts.
"I don't know." I mumbled, leaning my head back against the passenger seat and watching the buildings of Tokyo pass by. "I honestly...don't know."
