The Will

The next morning Arvilla was determined to find Joe's updated will.

She pulled boxes and boxes out.  The entire house was a mess!

"Come on, I know it's here!  Please!  I need to find it!  I can't leave this place, Joe!  I can't leave our home.." Arvilla cries in the middle of the huge mess she's made.

"This is our home!  We lived here for twenty years!  I can't just pack up and walk away!"

Arvilla couldn't control her tears.  She fell to her knees and sobbed loudly.
"I hate this!  You weren't suppose to leave me yet!  We still had so much more to do!"

Suddenly Arvilla got a sick feeling in her stomach.  She covered her mouth and with her free hand she grabbed the small trash can that was nearby.

Arvilla, like everyone, hated vomiting.  However, this has become normal for her.  Her sadness often became too much for her to handle, and she would get so sick to her stomach.

After she finished, she took the can to the bathroom to clean it up.
She then brushed her teeth, and returned to the living room where she continued to look for Joe's will.

Eventually Arvilla's poor little body got too exhausted and she passed out on mid search.

**

Arvilla dreamed she was all alone, enjoying the breeze and taking in the beautiful sight.
She felt so peaceful.  Just as she saw a figure of a tall man walking towards her, and just as she was making out who that man was, Arvilla's beautiful dream was interrupted by a loud knocking at her door.

Who it was shocked Arvilla.  Francine sent someone over to look at the house.
Arvilla knew that if she wanted to stay in the house she and Joe once shared, she would have to give Francine Joe's ashes.

That very thought pained Arvilla.

Suddenly there was yet another knock on the door.

Arvilla forcefully opened the door. "What?!" She said when she noticed her friends.
"Oh I'm so sorry!  Come in.."

"What was that all about?  They sure do move quick, huh?" Margene says.

"It's Francine.  She's threatening to sell the house unless I give her Joe's ashes."

"What?"

"She can't sell your house!" Carol says.

"Well it's her house according to the will she has.  I-I don't know, Joe.. I was sure Joe made another will when we got married, but I can't find it anywhere."

"It has to be here somewhere!" Margene says going through one of the piles.

"No, it's not.  It's not.  Believe me, I've searched everywhere." Arvilla stands up and walks over to a picture of she and Joe on their wedding day.  It was set up beside a picture of Arvilla Joe took of her on their honeymoon.  It was one of his favorites.

Carol stands and walks towards Arivlla.
"Maybe.. God wants Joe back with his family."

Arvilla turns to her in shock.
"I can't believe you'd say that!  I just ca.."

"Oh I'm sorry!  I'm sorry, Arvilla, I didn't mean it like that!"

With a shaky voice, Arvilla says, "Our marriage was everything to us.  Since the day we met we were inseparable, you know that!  Joe and I never spent a day apart.  If we were apart for a few hours, it felt like days for us!  The hugs, the kisses.. Nothing ever got old!  Everyday was so new and fresh with him."

"Francine can't take that away from you." Margene says.

"No, she can't take that away from me."

"But she can't take away your house either." Carol adds.

Arvilla lifts her chin and sighs. "Yes, but I promised Joe that I would scatter his ashes."

Arvilla feels a painful lump in her throat, but continues, "He doesn't want to be sealed up in a box.  He wants to be out in the world!"

"Arvilla.  Joe wouldn't want you to lose this house." Margene says.  Her heart broke for her friend.

Arvilla lets out a sob as she realizes what must be done.
"Well... I'm not packing Joe up and dropping him him off at the post office!" Arvilla walks out of the room leaving her two best friends alone.

If Arvilla needed to return Joe to his family, she was going to bring him there herself.  She wanted one last trip with the love of her life.

***

I hope everyone is enjoying this story so far!  I have a few things planned, but as always if you guys have any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

I'm trying to keep a bit of the original movie lines in, but of course make it my own.  Eventually I will be pulling away from the actual storyline, so I did want to add a bit while I still could.
