When it was time to leave work, I got a text from Fionna saying that Cake disappeared somewhere and needed help. So, being the big sister I am, I decided to help her, and Scanlon and Preston also decided to help.
The sun was setting, and we had no luck finding her. Fionna was calling for her as me and Scanlon searched the bushes by the park's fountain. Meanwhile, Marshall, Ellis, and Preston were sitting by the fountain, drinking a bottle of wine.
"Thanks to you three geniuses, the three of us have been searching for hours." Fionna stated as she took the bottle out of Marshall's hand and took a giant swig of it. "She can't have gone far with those stubby little legs." Ellis said. "Yeah, she'll turn up." Marshall added. "Exactly! It's not like she would just abandon you, Ella." Preston. "Her name is Fionna, Preston." Scanlon stated. "Oh, sorry." He apologized.
"I know this sounds nuts, but I swear I saw her jump into a sparkly blue... portal. In an ice-cream cart." Fionna said, holding the bottle close. "You are right. That does sound nuts." Marshall said.
"Nah, man. Don't doubt yourself. Listen to your guts!" Ellis exclaimed before messing around with his winter jacket. "Look for the blue portaaalll." He said in a hushed tone. Ellis then fell asleep, Marshall followed, and Preston did the same, making me groan in annoyance.
"Scanlon, can you take Preston home? Please?" I asked. "Are you sure?" He questioned as he walked over and hoisted Preston over his shoulder. "Yeah, sorry that you had to spend the afternoon like this." I said. "Hey, if it's with you, then it is okay. See you at work!" He said before he walked out of the park. "See you at work!" I waved.
(Time-skip)
It was now nighttime, and me and Fionna were setting up hand drawn 'Have you seen this portal?' posters. I can tell Fionna was getting very tired. I heard Fionna mutter something before leaning forward against the lamp post and sleeping. "Okay, little sis, time to head home!" I said. As I was about to pick her up, someone walked past us and was going to unlock the door to a bakery. "Gary?" Fionna muttered, to which he let out a yelp, dropping his bag.
"Cheese doodles, Fionna! You scared me half to death! Oh, hey Y/n." Gary said before he noticed my presence as he went to pick up his groceries. "Hey." I greeted back. "What are you doing?" Fionna asked in her tired voice. "Just, uh, gotta get that morning dough started." He nervously said.
"Also! Have you seen Cake? She ran away." I asked. "Possibly in this portal." Fionna mumbled, pointing to the badly drawn portal on the paper she put on the pole. "Oh, no. I'm sorry, Fionna. Is there anything I can do?" Gary asked, feeling pity for my little sister.
"A frozen-triple shot latte would be nice." She said, attempting to get rid of her tiredness from her eyes. "Absolutely! Come in. Come in." He ushered, opening the door. "Is there anything that you would like, Y/n?" He asked. "A simple f/f ice cream would be nice" I said as me and Fionna walked in.
Me and Fionna walked up to the counter. We both put down our luggage, and Fionna slammed her head against the tabletop. "Maybe you should take a nap." Gary suggested. "Nah. I'm good." Fionna groaned. In a few seconds, Gary put what Fionna asked for in her hand and gave me my ice cream. "Thanks."
"I'm gonna get started, and then we'll scour the city!" Gary declared as he walked into the back of the bakery, and Fionna started to drink her latte. As i started to consume my cold, sugary treat, I felt an aching pain in my head. "Brain freeze!" I shouted. Then Fionna let out a pained scream. "Gary! Too much ice!" She exclaimed.
I looked down at my ice cream and saw light blue sparkles emit from it. 'Huh?' I thought in confusion. I then saw a blue glow coming from the freezer, and Fionna saw it, too. "Are you seeing what I'm seeing?" I asked. "You mean the freezer glowing? Then yes." She muttered. The both of us walked over to it, almost like we were in a trance. I opened the door and a portal started growing from it. "Cake?" Fionna questioned before she poked it. I quickly grabbed her as she was sucked it, which unfortunately took me as well.
When I opened my eyes, I felt a bit dizzy. I saw a smudge on my lenses, took my glasses off and used a cloth to rub it away before putting it back on my face. I looked around, and it doesn't look like a bakery but someone else's home. "What the-" "Whoa! It was a portal!" Fionna exclaimed in excitement before looking around. "To an apartment?" She questioned out loud.
The both of us looked down to see a guy laying on his front, and the same glow coming from the back of his head before it disappeared. "Oh, my god! Sir? Dude?" She questioned, going over to the guy. Meanwhile, I smelt something burning, and looked to my right to see a giant, scorched goose in a cage, and for some reason has its beak taped shut. I walked over to it and poked its head and got no response of any kind. "Who cooks a bird this way?!" I asked like I was a food critic who was reviewing someone's work.
I then heard the guy speak up, almost like he was in shock. "Listen. Did you see a cat come through here?" Fionna asked. "You're not real! You two are just manifestations of Ice King's madness!" The guy shouted as he crawled out of what seems to be a closet, and the guy probably having an existential crisis. 'Who is Ice King?' I thought in confusion.
I then heard a groan coming from the goose in the cage. Before I could ask, this stranger started shouting at it, took it out of its cage and started shaking it like this was an interrogation scene in a cop show and said something about 'seeing her', which made me more confused.
"My last... chance." He muttered before he slowly laid on the ground and hugged the dad goose like a child would do to a teddy bear in a thunderstorm. "We're gonna just, um..." I said, trying to say it politely. "Cake!" Fionna called for out loud running to a metal wall that looks like a garage door. "Fionna!" I exclaimed, running after her.
She tried to open the door, but it didn't open and then tried to lift it. "What kind of weirdo lives in a garage?" She questioned as I helped her lift it and saw a beautiful sight. "Holy cow!" She said as we walked forward, letting the door drop behind us. The city looks so futuristic and with many weird looking people. "We're in a whole other world!" She added. "Yeah, thanks for stating the obvious." I said in a monotone voice as she laughed with joy.
I looked over to my left to see a little girl on some sort of vehicle, reading a book. "Hey, you! Have you seen my cat?" Fionna asked the little girl, walking up to her. "Is it cute? I saw a real cute yellow one yesterday. It looked just like Cake from my favorite book series." She said, showing us a picture of the one from her book, and it looks like Cake. "That's her! Cake!" Fionna exclaimed, finally getting somewhere. "Do you know where she went?" I asked kneeling down to her height.
I then saw her notice our name tags. "You both are F, Y & C fans, too?!" She gasped before gesturing to her bracelet, "Hey. If you have something of hers, this can find her." She stated. "Oh. We don't usually carry cat stuff..." I said, looking over my person. "Except..." Fionna spoke up, catching my attention. She spat in her hands and rubbed them over her old work pants. When she took them off, there was Cake's cat fur on her hands. "I'll just, uh... take one." The little girl hesitantly said, taking a strand out of Fionna's hands.
The pink round-thing on the bracelet scanned the strand of fur before a laser came out of it. "That way!" She said as she held her arm up in the air. We thanked her for her help and ran off in the direction of the laser. As we ran, the little girl drove in front of us, blocking our path. "Hop on! Fans gotta stick together!" She stated. "Okay? Thanks for giving us lift, kid." I said as the both of us got on the bike... thing. It floated up in the air a bit as the wheels tucked in and we started flying, startling the both of us.
The little girl took the bracelet off her arm and stuck it to one of the handlebars of the bike. "I'm Astrid, by the way. I was born and raised in the city." She introduced herself to us. "I'm Fionna, and this is my older sister, Y/n. We're from nowhere." She said as we flew out of the city, which was apparently a floating one. "Fionna and Y/n. You two are so method. I love it." She said. "I have no idea what that means, but okay?" I said, confused, and so was Fionna.
"But you're missing something." Astrid said to Fionna as the little girl gave her the hat she was wearing. Fionna puts it on and smiles. "Much better! Sorry that I don't have anything for you, tall lady. I like your suit though!" She said, looking over at me. "Thank you!" I said. "Welcome to Ooo, Fionna and Y/n." She said as the hover bike flew over two fire beings and a lava being. "Yeah. Me too." Fionna said as the bike headed straight for the forest.
When we landed, there was an angry crowd, and the laser was going into the crowd. "Uh-oh, where is she?" Fionna asked, getting worried. We then heard a meow coming from the middle of the said crowd. "Cake!" Fionna shouted, hopping off the bike and ran into the crowd with me following behind.
"Can I help?" Astrid asked. "Um... keep the bike running." I said before heading into the crowd.
When we got to the center, we saw people throwing fruit at Cake while she was in a beheading wood block. "Get away from my cat!" Fionna shouted before grabbing a living log and started hitting him against it. I saw someone about to grab my sister, my protective instincts kicked in, making me grab the nearest thing or person, which was a guitar that was in one of the stalls and hit it against that person's head. "Back up!" I shouted. "Fionna, just pull the pin!" I heard a voice said, sounding a bit robotic.
"You can talk? / Did she just speak?" The both of us asked at the same time in complete and utter shock. "I know. This place is nuts!" Cake said, shocking me further because I was hoping I was just hearing things. "Oh, my god! This is one of my top three fantasies!" Fionna said with pure joy and excitement. "'Top three fantasies'? This is one of my top three nightmares!" I exclaimed before hitting another person over the head with the guitar. "Man, this thing is indestructible!" I stated. I was expecting it to break the moment I first hit it over the head of someone. "Guys, the pin!" Cake reminded. Fionna apologized and pulled the pin, making it unlock.
When Cake was finally freed from it, she hopped into Fionna's lap, and she hugged Cake. "I thought I'd lost you forever!" Fionna cried. "Aah! Me too!" Cake said.
"Boo! No happy reunions for the criminal!" A mug shouted from the crowd. "Tammy, go get the market bazooka!" A green hunter ordered. As the crowd continued to get upset, I spoke up. "Everyone here better back the fuck up!" I shouted. "Oh yeah? Or what?" The mug asked as he pulled a dagger, and the green hunter pulled out a pitchfork, from his mug.
Fionna attempted to catapult herself with a flagpole, but fell on her face, to which the mug laughed at. I let out a battle cry as I tossed the guitar to the said as I ran over, grabbed the mug, lifted him and smashed him on the ground, leaving me with a sharp mug handle in my hand. "Oh, my god! I'm just as crazy as our Auntie Susan..." I muttered in horror at what I did. The green hunter was about to stab me with his pitchfork behind me, but I quickly turned around, stabbing the handle in his eye, killing him as well.
Fionna poked the mouth of a living balloon animal, shutting it up. A cheeseburger ran up behind her, with a dagger. But I kicked him in the face with a growl and Fionna wacked in in the side with the flagpole, making him fall. When the rest of the market's people charged us, we easily took them out.
Fionna laughed, "We kick ass!" She exclaimed in victory as Cake hopped off of Fionna's shoulder. "Yeah, you do!" Cake cheered. "This whole ordeal just... feels so right!" Fionna said. "WOO!" I exclaimed, throwing my hands in the air.

As the three of them posed, Astrid saw them posing like the ones on her favorite book series, and then she realized something, making her mind blow. "Oh, my gosh! You really are Fionna, Y/n, and Cake! The real ones! Can we go on an adventure?!" Astrid asked, fangirling. "Heh. Well-" Fionna was interrupted as the three of them were beamed out of that dimension, leaving her all alone.
"Aw... my hat!" She whined.
