Chapter 9: Peculiar Girl

Kyla

I watch the young vampire closely as she makes her way around the room. My guess is the way Satine is looking at everything, that she doesn't get to the East Wing often. She is looking at the room surrounding them with wide eyes. Picking up little knick knacks she is finding on the tables and placing them back down. Until her eyes look behind me. Looking over my shoulder, I can see the servant girl rocking back and forth in the corner.

Feeling horrible, I slowly bend down, so the servant and I are eye to eye, "I'm so sorry. I was spooked myself. I promise I won't hurt you." Looking into the young girls' eyes I can see tears pooling in her deep green eyes. As the tears fall, I must hold back my own tears for the pain I had just caused this poor girl.

"You know I have a friend around your age, she's a type of person that is feisty, but if she likes you, she will talk your ear off." I give the girl a warm smile hoping to ease her pain.

I make my way slowly to her, moving a bit closer so I can whisper in her ear. Like I have a secret just between us, although I know Satine can hear me loud and clear. "Between you and me, she's a bit of a pain in the butt sometimes. She never listens, she is one stubborn girl, and she has a mean right hook." I shoot the girl a wink, earning a small smile from her.

Feeling a little better about the situation and knowing the girl has calmed down some, I stand up and face the vampire standing a few feet away from me. I can kick myself for not being more alert, but I figure if the young vampire wants to hurt me, she would have done so by now. Besides Satine seems to be more of a person that likes to mess with people's minds rather than go for the kill.

I cross my arms over my chest and stare her down. Gathering all the courage I possess in my little body I ask her, "Now what can I do for you?" I lift one eyebrow as I look at her with a fierce expression.

I find I'm not the least bit surprised when all the girl does is give me a cruel smile. I watch as she puts her hands inside the back pockets of her jeans. Satine slowly saunters over to me. She doesn't stop until she is directly standing in front of me. I watch as Satine's eyes furrow, before she reaches her hand to my face to put some of my red hair that had fallen in front of my eyes behind my ear. I flinch at her actions. With a sudden solemn face, Satine withdraws her hand and backs up a step.

She shakes her head, as I watch her face change back into the same cruel smile. For an instant I find myself wondering if I have imagined the sadness, I thought I saw moments ago. "I just wanted to see who you were. You're quite pretty." When she takes a step closer, I can't help my instinctual response to take a step back.

"What's wrong little human am I scaring you?" I can't figure out if this is all a game to Satine, or if she really is only trying to learn things about me. Before I can ask her any of the many questions I have, the door flings open, and there in the middle of the room stands the exceptionally beautiful but pissed off Diedrek.

"What in the Hell do you think you are doing Satine!" His voice booms so loud the windows in the room shake. My breath catches in my throat as I watch him make his way into the room. His eyes are a deep shade of red, his skin begins turning a blackish color, making him look like a full-blooded demon. "What is going on?"

Before he can make it to his cousin, I watch as Darius and one of the guards that were outside the door moments ago come crashing into the room. They pull him back away from where Satine and I stand, and Darius holds him close to his body. He whispers something in his ear, as the guard turns his angry face to Satine. To my surprise she cowers at the scowl along his lips and puts her head down.

"I know you're mad because I did my mind trick on you and Jamal. I'm sorry, I just wanted to see the girl, and see if I could get in her mind." I watch as she places her arms around the middle of her body and folds into herself.

I know it's crazy, but I can't stop my feet from moving. I place myself in between Satine and the guard. The scowl wipes clean from his face as bewilderment sinks into his eyes. There is a look of confusion marring his face, as he studies me closely. "Yeah, I'm just as confused with my actions as you are there buddy.".

Before I can say a word Darius's voice breaks the silence, "I can't hold him much longer, he needs you..." He looks directly at me, his eyes turning red because he is using all his strength to hold Diedrek back, "you are the only one that can calm him down right now." At the look of indecision on my face there is a sudden voice in my head pleading with me.

Realizing its Darius and how serious this really is, I give the guard a stare whispering to him how he better not touch Satine and make my way to Darius and Diedrek a few feet away. As I am walking, I can see Diedrek watch my every move. Visibly swallowing down my fear, I give Darius a nod.

He slowly starts backing away. I know he is moving at a snail pace away from his friend for my benefit. He doesn't want him to hurt me in the state he is in now, but for some reason I don't believe he will. In my heart I know I'm the only one he would never hurt, no matter the situation.

Looking away from Darius, I see that Diedrek isn't paying him no mind, his attention is fully on me. There's still red in his eyes, and his skin is still a black hue, but it's slowly fading. I work my way directly in front of him. Gradually I place my hands on either side of his face and look him directly in the eye.

His breathing begins to even out, his skin color is slowly making its way back to his natural sun kissed color, and his eyes are now the most beautiful chocolate brown color I have ever seen. Having a close view, I can see specks of gold in them. I give him a shy smile before whispering a simple hello to him.

He gives me a smile in return showing off perfect white teeth. Then he addresses everyone else in the room. "Leave us." I don't look away from him, but I hear everyone walking out of the room. Within moments it's just the two of us left, and the air goes from deadly to enticing within moments.
