Chapter 3: Wishing for Freedom

Kyla

It was futile, I couldn't shake him off me no matter how much I tried, and I was doing everything in my power. Kicking him, squirming around hoping to break free, nothing was working. I saw Lucas look back for a moment.

He looked as though he was going to run back to try and save me. I couldn't let that happen. I gave him the sternest look I could and shook my head no. He deliberated for a couple seconds, but eventually ran into the forest with the rest of the group. Good! At least I know they're all safe.

Before I could think of another thing, I was being dragged back to the other side of the gate. The side with all the vampires. I recognized the monster that grabbed ahold of my leg immediately. He is the oldest of the royal vampires, Diedrek Bane.

The one vampire that was told in the prophecies many years ago. The one vampire that will become more powerful than all others after his ascension. I know I have no hope in winning this battle, but it doesn't mean I'll just give up the fight. I refuse to make anything easy for him.

Suddenly, my whole body is being lifted off the ground. When he slams me into the brick wall, I can feel every muscle in my back ache with agony. He grabs my chin hard to make me look directly into his eyes.

"What do you think you are doing?" He is breathing hard, causing his nostrils to flare. I know it's not from over excursion. The quarrel barely made him use any of his strength.

"Do you know what can become of you because of your stupidity?" Now I'm confused, what does a vampire, the eldest royal none-the-less care about what will happen to me?

I'm about to answer with those words when another comes to stand at his side. "The counsel is coming around the corner..." looking in my direction, piercing me with jade green eyes, the same as mine he asks, "What do you want me to do about them?" He looks back at Diedrek gouging him for an answer.

"I'll manage them. You stand with her." He tells him with a stern look on his handsome face.

"Do not let her go no matter what she does to try and break free." He warns, pointing his finger as he looks to the other vampire before bringing those chocolate eyes of his back my way "She's fast."

I can't be certain, but I think he just gave me a compliment. I see a look of mischief in his eyes and a grin forming on his luscious lips as he turns away from me.

He walks off to confront four of some of the creepiest looking men I have ever seen. Their eyes have no color at all, they just appear completely white, their faces are full of scars, and you can tell they are incredibly old by their appearances.

They all have long white hair, and you can almost feel the evil radiating off of them. I swear I can see a black shade around them all. They aren't like any normal vampires that I've seen before.

"Breathe, they can't harm you if Diedrek won't allow them to." The vampire with jade green eyes bends down to whisper so only I can hear his words. I hadn't realized I wasn't. Although we are enemies by nature, for some reason I feel at ease around him. Which just shows how much I really need to leave. Sooner rather than later.

"What is the meaning of all this Diedrek?" How did the slaves get out, and what happened to the stage?" One of the vampires asks as he points to the stage behind him.

The area is a mess, and there had to be at least a handful of vampires injured. "Excellent work Lucas" I think to myself. Finding it difficult to hold back my smile. Something told me this would be the wrong moment to show pride in what my friends and I had done.

"I will have it cleaned up and get to the bottom of all this." As he said that all eyes turn to me.

Knowing this could be the end, that I could die right here in this disheveled place. With the smell of rotten flesh and blood surrounding me. By the hands and fangs of the monsters around me. I close my eyes, and I say a silent prayer. Hoping that someday soon all this will come to an end.

I'm surprised by a growl that animates into my once quiet surroundings at that moment. My eyes pop open, and I look at Diedrek. I'm not the only one shocked by the noise coming from him, judging by the older vampire's face, and how every vampire within the vicinity backs up a step. By that action alone I can guess how powerful Diedrek really is.

"You will not look at her as though she is your next meal. Do I make myself clear Mendrick?!" I watch through wide eyes, as he steps up to the older vampire. Getting right into his space he stares down at him.

To my amazement, the older vampire bows his head in submission. Everyone looks away from me soon after. Seems all of them are too afraid to even peek in my direction now. Everyone that is, except for the one standing next to me. The vampire with mischief held deep in his jade green eyes, who is holding onto my arm with a death grip.

He looks down at me with a mischievous smile forming on his face, "Interesting. Seems to me you are special there little human."

I hate that condescending nickname he feels the need to call me. I shake my arm doing what I can to loosen his grip, but it does me no good. Throwing a steely gaze his way, he just gives a puff of laughter and shakes his head. "So glad he finds me funny... Not!"

"In fact, anyone that wishes to look at her at all will have to answer to me. Your future leader, and very soon to be the most powerful being in our world." Diedrek turns in a full circle, slowly to look everyone in their eyes. His arms held out at his side.

I'm positive he's trying, and succeeding, at intimidating every vampire here. "Do I make myself clear?" His voice booms over everyone making sure he is heard.

"Sire, please do not see this as disrespect, but your father has heard about this. He's the one that sent us down here to see what was happening." The one he called Mendrick, told him as he bows his head further down. Guess he is hoping if he shows some sort of submission in respect, he won't get his head ripped off?

Diedrek stands silent, looking at the other vampires around us for a few long moments. I'm not sure if I'm wishing he'd tell them to take me and punish me as they see fit, or if I want him to say he'll deal with me himself.

With one scenario, I'll end up in a dungeon getting tormented until I give up why we did what we had done, and any other vital information I may have on the Rebel Humans. If Diedrek decides he will take me and see to my punishment himself, I'm not certain what he will do to me. That thought has my heartbeat speeding up, and fear coursing through my veins more than anything.

I'm on the verge of having a massive panic attack when Diedrek finds my eyes with his. I can't explain what I'm feeling at the moment, but I can say with certainty it's not fear. I'm not afraid he will torture me for information, or even use his bite on me.

The look he gives me makes my entire body shake. Goosebumps are rising on the skin of my arms. I feel the hairs on the back of my neck stand at attention. Sweat is running down between the crevice of my breasts, and my breathing has become erratic. I find myself feeling extremely warm, and all I find myself wanting is to put my hand between my legs and rub myself. What is wrong with me?
