Chapter 25: Satine Says It All
Kyla
I find myself standing there staring at the door for a while. With my arms wrapped around the middle of my body, tears welling up in my eyes, and feeling more confused than ever. I know he's right; I shouldn't talk to him in that way.
He saved my life after all. If it were up to those elder vampires, I'd be dead, or worse sold in the auction, and become a human blood slave. I shudder at the last thought. I think I owe him an apology when he returns.
"You do." I swing around, to face the person that voice came from. Standing there looking at me, with her hands on her hips is Satine.
"How did you get in here?" I hold my hand on my heart and glare at her.
"I have my ways." She shrugs her shoulders.
She is wandering the room again. Studying everything as she passes them. "My cousin always did have extravagant taste." She looks at me.
Looking me up and down, she pauses with her head tilted to the side, "Very extravagant." She licks her lips and smiles at me showing her elongated canines.
"I'm not afraid of you. I can fight one vampire fine on my own." I take a fighting stance. Ready for a fight if it comes down to it.
"Please," she rolls her eyes at me. Making her way to the couch she sits down and sprawls out, making herself right at home. "If I wanted to kill you I would. I just figured us girls could have a little chat."
"About what?" I study the beautiful vampire sitting before me. I know she's up to something, she's too clever not to be.
Her eyebrow quirks up, she looks at me like she's laughing at me. I can see it in her eyes. "Why don't you put those guns down, and come sit in the chair, and we'll talk like civilized people."
My brows furrow with confusion for a moment. When she nods her head in the direction of my hands I look down. I hadn't even noticed they were in fists, up and at the ready to swing. Bringing them down, I walk to the chair beside the couch slowly.
I feel hesitant with every step. There's something off about this girl, I just don't know what it is. Eyeing her skeptically, I take a seat and face my body in her direction. Giving her my full attention.
"It's all right little human I'm not going to hurt you. What is off about me, Is I have many mental problems. You can thank my father, uncle, and Diedrek's brothers for that. They've fucked me up so bad, there's no coming back from where I am." She gives me a sad smile.
"What did they do to you?" I ask with trepidation.
"Believe me you don't want to know. That's one of the reasons I'm here. I know my uncle, and the stunt you and your friends pulled has his attention. Loud and clear. Which only means one thing." She pauses briefly, lost in her own thoughts.
Not being able to handle the silence a second longer, I ask her point blank. "What does it mean?"
My words have her eyes lifting to me again. "You should be afraid when they return." Her words came out so low, I almost didn't hear what she said.
Her words bring instant fear to my core. As all the ways I know a vampire likes to taunt and torture human beings before they finally get bored and decide to kill them works through my mind.
"In fact, they'll be here probably within the next couple weeks." She looks me dead in the eyes. I can see how serious she is, and the determination held within about getting me to listen.
"So, what are you saying I should do?" I swallow down the fear. Knowing full well no matter what I won't speak a word about my people.
"I'm saying you need to put on your big girl panties, quit being a little damsel in distress with a bitchy attitude and listen to my cousin. He and Darius are your only allies. You're going to need them." She lays her body down completely and closes her eyes.
"Believe me when I say you'll need all the protection you can get. You may be more powerful than all other humans. But you will be no match for a vampire of royal blood."
She pauses yet again, studying me. "From what I've heard your half vampire, welcome to the club." Her thoughts are throwing me for a loop. This woman is everywhere.
"But you haven't grown up in our world. You don't know anything about what you're capable of. How to use your abilities, really anything. And trust me you're going to want as many friends here as you can get for when they arrive."
"I've heard stories about them. To be honest I'm terrified." I tell her truthfully.
She snorts and looks at me, "Then why in the hell would you do what you did? Coming here, interrupting the auction, killing vampires, and freeing the human blood slaves. Not smart on your part."
"That's what you do for the people you love. You fight for them. You do everything within your power to be there for them, protect them in any way, and if you must, you die for them." I say, strong conviction lacing my voice.
"I get that, believe me I do. I would do that for Diedrek in a heartbeat. Hell, I'd even do it for Darius too." Her eyes shoot to me, and she points her finger at me. "You tell him I said that I'll make you pay."
I cross my heart with my hand, "Your secret is safe with me." I give her a smile hoping she can see the sincerity on my face.
"Well, he wouldn't believe you anyway." She shrugs and lays back again, closing her eyes.
After a couple minutes of complete silence, I must ask, "Do you know anything about blood mates?"
She sits up, placing her elbows along the top of her knees. Holding her chin in her hand she looks at me, "Yes, I know that its two vampires meant to be together. They have a piece of each other's soul. They are born during the same time to find one another in some way, I believe you know it as destiny."
"They are one in the same. The love that they have for one another is eternal, and they are each other's forever. Their always, the entire world is in one another."
"But how do they come about? Why do they feel this way about one another? Is it just a hormonal thing or what?" I ask her. I'm desperate to know.
"Not a hormonal thing. Has nothing to do with hormones. It's not like teenagers feeling sexual feelings because of them growing up. It's nothing like that." She speaks.
"It's more genetic material. I meant it when I said that a part of his soul is within you, just as a part of your is in him." I can see in her eyes she truly means that.
"How it comes about no one really knows, it's just something that has been with us vampires since the beginning of time. You and Diedrek are incredibly lucky. Not all vampires find their blood mate."
"Most go through life just having fun with others. Maybe finding powerful ones, and starting a family to continue their blood line, but it's nothing like what you two now have."
"You haven't found yours?" I ask her.
"No, and pry never will." She stands up and walks over to me.
Standing in front of me she slowly brings her hand to my face. Holding my face up towards her, she looks into my eyes, and gets a dazed off look. Moments later, she shakes her head, and smiles at me.
"You little halfling are going to do remarkable things. I know this, and I cannot wait to see what happens in our future." She says before walking over to the window.
She looks out of it and says something I cannot make out. The next second the lights flash. I look around wondering what happened. Opening my mouth to ask, I realize she is no longer in the room. "Where did she go? How did she leave so fast?" Shaking my head, I clear those thoughts. I need to focus on the important things at hand.
I need to work on my apology to Diedrek when he comes back. I'm going to need him and Darius on my side for whenever his crazy father and brothers return. If I'm being honest with myself, I really don't want to fight with him anymore. I want to know what this is between us, even if that means I must do the scary thing, and let him in.
