Chap 17
Sorry about the really long wait but I’ve been having trouble with this story of late but I’m going to start getting back into it.
Enjoy!
~Wyatt~
“So I was wondering, since tomorrow is Friday that you wouldn’t mind going out with me tomorrow night.” Owen said, his arms crossed over the edge of the pool. I was sitting cross legged watching him swim back and forth like I use to with Adam. I frowned at him.
“Like a date?” I asked warily. He just smiled.
“I told you already Wyatt, I’m not giving up. I doesn’t matter that someone is already trying to get at you, I want you as well and I intend to make you see this.” with that he pulls himself from the water gracefully, he was glistening and dripping wet from head to toe. My mouth was instantly dry as I watched his muscles flex as he lifted himself up. Moments later he was beside me; his deep brown eyes warm and beautiful as he leaned in close and pressed his soft wet lips to my surprised ones. I whimpered softy closing my eyes and leaning into him as our tongues found each other.
His hand cupped the back of my neck to keep me in place while we slowly began to lay back caught in the moment. His body was a welcoming weight on mine and I couldn’t stop my wondering hands from caressing his long smooth damp back holding him closer. Owen finally pulled away letting me gulp down air but kept moving down my jaw till he settled at my neck leaving a fiery trail of kisses. I’m gasping, heart pounding at the tingles consuming my body. How is it that he can make my body feel so alive and need like this.
“Owen” I moaned breathlessly dropping my head back giving him more access to my throat.
“God Wyatt, you smell so good.” He groaned against my skin. I could feel the light prickling scruff of his beard as it was coming in. His bold tongue took a swipe at the hollow of my throat and my body arched into his. My hands tangled themselves in his wet messy brown hair and I realized it was longer than usual.
Suddenly the front doors opened and I jumped pulling away from him as the coach walked in seeing us and coming up short.
“Dammit, Caine!” Coach exclaimed running his hands down his face in exasperation. I watched him in worry I hope we don’t get in real trouble with this,
“I let you in here to practice Owen not to philander with students, male or otherwise who don’t even belong in the pool room!” he scolded glaring at us. Owen looked at me with a frown raising a brow in question.
“Philander?” he whispered to me and I started to laugh.
“What are you laughing about over there!” the coach growled.
“Nothing coach, I just finished up my laps actually. Wyatt here was just giving me some CPR, I was drowning from his cuteness.” He said kissing me softly. I watched him in awe, I never noticed his boldness before.
“Ah, get out of here Caine!” the coach grumbled shaking his head in either amusement or unease. Owen just chuckled and get to his feet offering me his hand helping me up too. I looked down at my damp clothes and sighed guess I have to go home now.
Once Owen was done dressing he packed his towel and speedo in his gym bag and slid the straps over his shoulder.
“Ready?” he asked looked up at me expectantly.
I pushed my back off the locker I was leaning on to follow him out.
“You never did answer me.” he said as we made our way down the hall towards the lot. I peered up at him,
“What do you mean?” I asked. He smiled gently,
“About tomorrow” he hinted and I blushed. Oh he did ask that, and then we got carried away into each other. I ducked my head at the delicious memory. Just like this morning in the empty room.
“So what’s it gunna be?” I heard the nervous hitch in his voice.
“What are we going to do?” I asked barley above a whisper.
“It’s a surprise” I glanced up at him again as we came to a stop at the front door. When I didn’t answer right away he stepped in front of me with a soft expression.
“Hey, look you don’t have to say yes, I just wanted to take you somewhere to spend time with you that’s all but if you’re not comfortable with that I’ll figure something else out to make you more at ease with me.” he reassured me.
Man he was so sweet and nice that I completely melted on the spot. I nodded my head.
“I’ll go with you, what time do you want to pick me up?” I asked him in a hushed tone. The smiled that crossed his handsome face caused a skip in my chest.
“Really?” I nodded my head and I flat out grin from ear to ear, I couldn’t take my eyes off of him. What was I doing? He opened the door for me and we walked out to our cars. I grabbed my phone out of my pocket and texted Eian asking where he was. When I offered to go with him to get his books after school he kindly refused saying he can do it and that’s when Owen found me and I asked me to hang out with him in the pool room.
Eian texted saying that he got a ride with Adam earlier, shrugging I reached in my pocket to grab the car keys when I saw something move somewhere to my left and I glanced in curiosity to see Zane in his black leather jacket and a pretty long haired brunette girl all over him. She was kissing his neck and his eyes were closed but not for long as he opened them and our eyes met. He looked a bit surprised to see me but it was quickly hidden by his signature smirk his eyes looked beyond me and his smirk widened. I peered over my shoulder to see Owen had stopped behind me and was glaring daggers at him.
I’d never seen him give someone such a cold look before. Owen took my elbow and led me down the stairs toward my dad’s car. I couldn’t help it and I looked back at the two who were back at it. There was a familiar pang in my chest at the scene. I don’t even know why, I did tell him we weren’t together or anything. The date we had possibly gave me false hope of some kind deep down in my subconscious though I wasn’t looking for any. Though I’m no better than him, I can’t judge him because in a way I’ve done the same. He knows about Owen likes me somehow and I haven’t exactly been a saint either today.
Ugh! I’m so confused.
How did I exactly get caught up in all these men, I feel like I’m constantly repeating these question to myself. I need HELP!
“Hey you ok?” Owen asked. I was brought back from my thoughts as I realized I was staring in the driver’s side window of my car. Schooling my confused expression I smiled up at Owen and nodded.
“Yeah, I’m just thinking of what you have planned for us tomorrow.” I tried to sound convincing but from the concerned look on his face I knew it didn’t work.
“Can I have you address?” he asked changing the subject thankfully.
“Sure” I took a pen out of my pocket taking his hand and wrote it on his arm along with my phone number since I never gave it to him,
“I’ll see you tomorrow” I told him and got in the car.
On the way home I was in a daze, it was a miracle I didn’t get in a wreck. I found myself parked in front of my house for the last ten minutes just staring at the front door. I didn’t want to go in because I really didn’t want to hear that woman’s voice but I took a deep breath and stepped out locking the car behind me.
When I got in I was bombarded with the sound of yelling.
“Karen, I’m letting you stay here because I know you’re having trouble but you can’t come in here and dictate my life!” my dad exclaimed. I quietly clicked the door closed and tiptoed close to the kitchen.
“I’m not dictating Chris I just wanted to know why you haven’t told me you were dating someone.” The devil woman said. I frowned, my dad was dating?
“I don’t need to tell you anything about my dating life Karen.” He growled.
“Hey, I’m just looking out for you Chris, make sure she’s not some hussy after your money or something.” I could hear the hidden venom in her voice I wanted to slap her.
“That was uncalled for” dad scolded.
“Ugh, whatever go on your little date, Chris.” she spat and marched out of the kitchen almost crashing into me. Her eyes narrowed at me like daggers as she pasted me, her shoulder knocked into me casing me to stagger.
“Excuse you” I huffed after her. Rolling my eyes I walked in the kitchen spotting my dad pacing the floor and running his hands through his hair in agitation.
“Dad?” I called quietly. He stopped and turned to me,
“Wyatt, hey, what’s up?” his voice was rough with frustration though he tried to hide it from me.
“You’re going on a date?” I asked handing him the keys.
“Wyatt” he sighed closing his eyes.
“I’m not being negative or anything I just over heard you and Karen.” He pinched the bridge of his nose.
“Don’t call her that.” he groaned, I scoffed.
“Well I’m sure as hell not going to call her ‘mommy’. She lost that privilege when she called me an abomination.” I snarled. Dad’s eyes were focused on the keys in his hands idly playing with them.
“I know kid… this must be really hard on you.” He whispered. I blinked up at him in surprise,
“What?” I couldn’t believe something like that just came out of his mouth.
“I want to believe she’s changed but she’s not staying here for long. I’m going to help her hunt for houses so she doesn’t make you uncomfortable anymore, okay.” He said staring straight at me. I think my jaw was touching the floor; quickly I rushed to him and placed the back of my hand over his forehead.
“You don’t feel warm, are you sick by any chance?” I asked concerned. He snorted before pulling me into a long hug.
“Wyatt, I’ve been inconsiderate in letting your mother stay without asking you. After all, this whole mess we’re in is because of her that we have all drifted.” Is this my dad?
Slowly, awkwardly I wrapped my arms his tall frame and buried my face in his shoulder. When was the last time I had hugged him like this? When was the last time I was even in touching distance of the man?
I took in a deep breath of his scent and memories came flooding back to me. Days when he would push me on the tire swing he built outside. Or how he would wake me up in the mornings by jumping in my bed and tickling me when I was younger till I practically peed myself, taking me to baseball games, any sporting event really or playing catch with me. Teaching me how to ride a bike and eventually how to drive, he’s been there for me a lot even when he discovered my darkest secret; he stuck by me the whole way. Yeah we have had out differences and arguments like any normal father and son. But I had to realize that he had to let go of a long loving marriage for me and it was hard on him just like it was hard on me to lose my parents like I did, to not feel loved because of what I am, but dad never turned on me like Karen and I was grateful to him for that.
“You know I love you, right.” He whispered huskily in my hair and I broke. Tears came rushing to my eyes and I held him to me tightly.
“I know” I sobbed into his shoulder.
“Aw Wyatt, don’t cry” he chuckled pulling away from me a bit.
“I love you too dad” I sniffed looking up at him with watery eyes. He smiled then, his shining eyes soft and tender.
“Alright enough with this mushy crap, we’re men” he deepened his voice playfully, puffing out his chest and slapping my shoulder. I burst out laughing and stepped back from him wiping my eyes.
“Yeah, men don’t cry” I joked along with him earning a deep chuckle.
“Exactly” he winked.
“So about that date” I voiced some minutes after. “Who is she?” I asked curiously.
“Her name is Arbela” he told me, his voice took on a soft dreamy edge.
“That’s unique and very pretty”
“It is, she’s Lebanese” he said proudly.
“Oh so you’re exploring new horizons I see” I teased.
“I am actually and I’m finding it very refreshing.” He smiled leaning up against the counter.
“Where did you meet?”
“The coffee shop, I know very cliché but nothing I could do about it” he said rubbing the back of his neck. I grinned up at him.
“Well I’m happy for you, when can I meet her?”
“Well we’re going to dinner tonight, since all we’ve had were lunch dates for the past month. I planned on bringing her over this weekend to meet you but with your mother here, I don’t think that a good idea.” he sighed.
“Yeah good thinking, instead we can go out to dinner or lunch or something” I told him.
“You really want to meet her?” there was genuine surprise in his voice.
“Yes dad. I can tell you really like her so I need to know what you’re getting yourself into. It’s a sons duty.” I said raising my chin up high in a snobbish way. Dad rolled his eyes and mussed my hair,
“Whatever you say Wyatt” he snickered.
“Speaking of dates,” I continued. “I have one tomorrow” I said a little hesitantly.
“Oh, with who?” dad asked. I didn’t detect any uncomfortable feelings or awkwardness.
“His name is Owen” butterflies took off in my stomach at the thought of him.
“Owen huh, well I hope you have a nice time then.”
“Thank you, I’m going to get some of my homework done now.” He nodded,
“Alright, see you” he said as I left and went up to my room.
Wow I actually had a conversation with my dad with out and awkwardness or yelling.
The whole time I was on my bed I kept thinking of Owen and what he had in store for the two of us but reluctantly my mind was forced back to Zane and that girl he was kissing, as much as I told myself to forget it, it still hurt.
