Chapter 33: What the Witches Know

Diedrek

I know this is probably not going to get us anywhere, but I must try. I know the three witch sisters are terrified of my father, but I need to see if they know anything that can help us. A long sigh makes its way up my burning throat and out of my mouth as I walk up the porch steps. Looking up at the rickety old house, that everyone spreads through word of mouth that is haunted. Looking at it, if I weren't a vampire, I would believe them.

I lift my hand to knock, but I hear inside my head come in my lord. As the door opens wide. Stepping into the foyer of the house, I look around in the dark. Luckily, us vampires have the gift of sight at night. So even though it's nothing but black in front of and behind me, I can see as though it was bright as morning.

"What is it you wish from us this time my lord?" I see one of the sisters' as she steps into my sight of view.

Walking a bit closer I lean against the opposing wall from her, so my body faces her head on. "I need to know what you have seen of the past."

She walks closer to me, a cruel smile along her lips. "Could you be more specific." I hear cackling to my right.

Two other shadows step up behind her. One wearing all black, the other in blood red. Allowing me to know, who they are, although they shield their faces. Sophie, the one in blood red, has her head tilted to the side. I can see her dull eyes through the veil covering her face. I would think she'd be looking at me, trying to instill fear, but she looks off in a daze. Never saying much, only laughing like a maniac, every time I come here.

The eldest of them, Cici, wearing her usual black clothing from head to toe moves to stand beside Bunny. The one that always converses with me.

"Of course, my apologies. I want to know how Aurora, had become a vampire." I stand at my full height waiting for them to argue with me. To foolishly tell me they cannot give me that information.

To my shock, she answers me, "Oh, you mean the cruelest of them all." She walks further into their living room.

The space is huge, and at one point you could tell was a beautiful space. There is a fireplace at the far wall, with two bay windows on each side. It looks more like two rooms, that's how big the area is. Looking at it now, it could make you sad with the destruction once our species took over.

The cobblestone on top is cracked down the center, the windows are broken with old grey ratty curtains ripped apart along top of them. There are many holes in the floor, so I always must watch where I step when I come here. One could fall through the floor very easily if they didn't have my vampire speed.

I see out of the corner of my eye, Cici take Sophies' hand and bring her further into the room with us. She sits her on the couch, sitting beside her, looking at me with interest. Her eyes tell me there's a story behind Bunny's words.

"What could you possibly mean the cruelest of them all?" Clearly these witches have gone mad. Used too much power over the years, making their minds foggy with delusions. The cruelest beings in this world have always been my father and his council. Meaning my two older brothers as well as Darius's father. I don't see anyone taking that title.

Bunny has the audacity to cackle like a hyena, her sisters joining in catching my attention. Glaring at anyone else would cause them to panic and cower away, but not these three. They are already psychotic and have nothing more to lose.

When I focus back to Bunny, I see she's bent over holding her stomach with her hand. Laughing so hard. "Have you ever wondered how your species was able to take over this world?" She asks once her laughter calms down.

My brows furrow with confusion. "Yes, my grandfather had enough of the hiding. He found your ancestors and forced them to give our family more power. So, we could lead our kind to victory. Take over the world in its entirety and force the humans as lesser beings into slavery."

Everyone knows of our past; they are all aware how our family became the most powerful beings of this world. How us vampires over a thousand years ago had enough of hiding who we were, being afraid the humans would kill us off. We made a deal with the true devils of this world, but what could that have to do with Aurora being the cruelest?

"You are half correct, but you have been deceived in one important way." She turns fully to me, lifting her veil so I can see a full-blown smile on her face. With her cricked nose, and gigantic warts on her face, I must hold down the blood I had for breakfast.

"What are you talking about?" My patience is waying thin.

If she doesn't stop talking in circles, I will take her down, and she knows I am one of the few in this world that can. Hell, the only reason all three of them are alive still is because I refuse to collaborate with my father. To do his bidding, and he needs some sort of witch power on his side. If he wishes to obtain the control, he has tried so hard to gain in this world, that for now is still his.

"I believe we would all like to hear what you have to say about the past, and what my mother has to do with it." Turning I see Kyla standing at the open door.

Darius and Lucas stand just behind her. Both have their legs spread wide, shoulders straight, chests puffed out, and arms crossed. Showing that they aren't going to deal with the bullshit for long. They want answers just as much as I do.

Satine steps up beside Darius and hides her body behind him. He has always been her protector. I have a feeling judging by my cousin's crazed hair, and swollen lips, it's finally turned into something more.

"Well, well, if it isn't the little protégée finally home to save us all." Bunny's words force me to step in front of my woman. Protecting her from their view entirely.

What are you doing here? You are supposed to be heading for the forest. To be safe with your uncle and the other rebels. I chastise. Is she trying to make this more difficult for me?

I need all the answers. The war is about to begin, I can feel it in my soul. For us to win it and take all the evil out of this world they need to start talking.

She steps up beside me, "Tell me everything now!" Her tone leaves no room for argument.

Kyla is standing her ground, with the ferocity of my soon to be queen. They say nothing, only study her as she them in return. They look stunned, all three of their eyes are wide, mouths fallen open. They are so wide they almost hit the floor.

Looking closer, I see Sophie is focused for once in all the time I've known her. She has never looked directly at someone and been lucid. Which leaves me wondering what is truly going on?

I knew Kyla was special the moment I saw her, but I thought it was only because she was my mate. Now I'm not so sure, there is something else about her. Judging by the awe struck look on the sisters faces it's something big.

"She's right it's time you tell us everything. Leave nothing out." I demand them, my tone telling them all they need to know.

That if they refuse, lie, or leave out any more vital details I will destroy them here and now. I've had enough of all this.

"You may want to sit down. It could take a minute." Bunny raises her hand, drawing an old couch from the furthest wall closer to us. Focusing on Darius she gives the first genuine smile I have ever seen. Pulling up a chair next to the couch for him to take a seat.

"I haven't forgotten how you prefer your chairs." She crosses her arms over her chest and awaits to see what we all do. Deciding because this has to do with her mother, I look at Kyla for direction. If she sits to listen to what they have to say, we will follow her. Of course, if she decides she'd rather destroy them now, from all the secrets they have kept over the years, I will stand by her with that decision as well.

Looking at me, I tell her with only my eyes that it's her decision. She looks a little taken back. I may be the prince, but you are my queen. This is all up to you. I allow my words to sink in, making sure she understands exactly what I'm saying.

What is it you wish for beautiful? She looks from me to the witches and back.

I think we need to hear everything, and if they hold back or lie to us in any way, I wish to be rid of them for good.

A cruel smile forms on my lips as I walk closer to her. Bringing my hand to her face I rub her chin with my thumb. Looking deep into her eyes, I see all the emotions she is feeling. I wish to take it all away and make this world something she deserves.

To do that we need to know the entirety of the truth. About the entire past to know what we are going up against. How to defeat the evil begins with knowing the truth from the beginning.
