Chapter 18: Coming to an Agreement
Diedrek
Broderick looks at me with trepidation deep in his eyes. Not that I can blame the man, he hasn't had the best luck around vampires. "What is the proposition exactly?" He stands before me with his arms folded over his chest, an eyebrow raised in question. Lucas and his brothers move to his side, taking a similar stance. Looking at them side by side there is no denying they are their fathers' sons. They all look so much alike.
"Kyla, has come up with a plan, per say." That gets all their attention quickly. Lucas steps forward from his position by his father's side. "You said she was okay, what are you talking about with a plan?" There is disdain in his tone, the boy still does not trust us.
"Lucas," his father tries to calm his son. With no such luck as he ignores the older man completely. Taking a step closer in my direction. I'm not sure what he plans on doing since my body isn't here.
"No, she shouldn't be involved in this. It is too dangerous." He looks between his family and me. There is a lot of anger held within his facial expression, but there is a sadness behind his eyes.
"But she is a part of this. A huge part of this, and if we want this war to end and for the monsters to be defeated, we need to work together." I try to reason with the boy.
The look in his eyes tells me he wants to argue, but the man that he is knows I'm right. His shoulders loosen as the fight inside of him diminishes. "I just..." his voice cuts off. I can hear how much he's fighting back tears.
"I don't want anything to happen to her. She's the closest person I have in my life." He lifts his head looking me straight in the eyes. I can see how much he needs me to understand. And I do. God's, do I understand what he's feeling.
"I won't allow anything to happen to her. She's too precious to me." There's silence between us for a moment. To drive my point home, I tell him exactly what I feel. "I am head over heels in love with her. If anything was to happen to her, I would die alongside her." Every word is the truth. I know they are human and don't understand the vampire bond, but that's how it is when you find your blood mate.
My words knock me off my feet. As I succumb to the depths of my feelings. The thing is I mean it. If anything was to happen to her I would either die beside her, or if the Gods were so cruel to allow me to live, I would take my own life. For a world without her in it is no world of mine at all.
Shaking my head, I clear those negative thoughts away. She is stronger than even I know. I'm sure of it. I know nothing will happen to her because she is a fighter. She wouldn't allow the monsters of our world to win so easily.
Looking up I see the boy staring at me. Studying dare I say my aura? The way he is looking at me, I've only seen that done once. When the three witches first came into our lives. They had seen the aura around me. Knowing what I am capable of but knowing I'm a good man. A man of my word, if they do not turn against me, I will keep them safe. They knew from the aura surrounding me I was telling them the truth. That is why they help me so often.
"You have the gift of sight." It sounds like a question but we both know it's not one. I'm simply pointing out what I see. Lucas says nothing. He focuses back on me with a sly grin on his face. He turns to his father and brothers with a nod of his head.
Whatever he just told them with that one nod, Broderick must trust that my words are true. I mean exactly what I say. He, all three of his sons, and the rest of their warriors walk right up to me.
There are a few inches distance between us. They have crowded me, using their numbers to show just how much they are serious. "What do you have in mind?"
I can't help the smile that grows on my face. They may be going for intimidation, but I am not afraid of a mere man. No matter if he is a witch.
"They can arrive back at any time. All I need from you is to move closer to the outskirts of our city. Right in the woods outside of the gates."
I point in the direction behind me. His oldest son goes to speak but I cut him off. "No one will be able to see you. They won't know you're there. With your powers and the three sister witches I have on my side we can cloak you with no problem."
Something in my words has Broderick stepping back. His mouth is agape, brows furrowed. "Three sister witches?" He whispers so low if I wasn't half vampire, I wouldn't have been able to hear him.
"Yes, three sister witches." I tilt my head to the side, studying the man.
"Why?" I must ask.
The look in his eyes is one of wonder. "It's nothing." He brushes me off with a swing of his hand in the air. "We will be there by midday tomorrow. You have my word." He certainly recovered quickly. If I had more time I would stay and question him more. Refusing to leave until I got my answers, but I have more pressing matters.
"That is all I need. Thank you." I bow my head only a little to show my gratitude. I go to shimmer out of their vision and back to the cabin when Lucas steps forward. "I want access to the castle." His father places his hand along his shoulder, but he shrugs it off. "I don't care how. I couldn't care less if you must pose me as a human slave in the castle. I want to be right there with Kyla."
I can take this one of two ways. I can tell him fuck no it's too dangerous, or I could agree and make him my own personal human slave in my wing so if anything goes down, he will be there to help Kyla as well.
I open my mouth going with my first thought. I mean I'm sure Kyla will punish me severely for allowing this and placing her closest relative in danger, but the look held within his eyes has me pausing. It's the exact same look Kyla has when she is deadly serious about a situation.
"Send word when you arrive, and I'll allow it." Lucas bows his head and turns to walk back to the camp. He gathers his weapons already on board.
His father is glaring at me. I can tell he wants to rip me a new one. I face him head on, crossing my arms over my chest. I lean against the nearest tree, in a relaxed pose. Tilting my head to the side I raise one brow. Daring him to say something.
Have to say he shows he is a smart man. He purses his lips, gives me one final snare, and turns to walk towards Lucas. His sons and the other rebels follow. Making me laugh as I shimmer back to my cousin and the three witches.
"I'm guessing it went well." Satine is looking at me with a knowing look and her own sly smile on her face. I know she listened in. I lift both my brows in answer. Give a small thanks to the witches and without another word walk to the door. Preparations are in order. Plans to be made, and most importantly I need to get back to Kyla.
