Chapter 14: Serious Situation
Diedrek
"She wasn't in too much pain then?" Darius asks me once again. I know he's worried about his knew found sister, but the questions are annoying as fuck.
"Yes, she is fine, extraordinarily little pain. The most she felt was when her fangs broke through the gums in her mouth." I say with a hint of annoyance in my tone.
"Good, I'm glad it went fairly well for her." He sits back in the chair across from my desk, releasing the breath he has been holding.
"Now that you have all your questions answered," I pause so I can look at him. Just so he knows the seriousness of the situation.
"Let's discuss what we are going to do about my father's return." I give off a sigh just thinking about it.
"You're positive he is already on his way? I mean he's supposed to be gone for a month." He sits up in the chair, his eyebrows scrunched with tension.
"I'm certain. I know my father better than anyone. He's a calculated bastard. He knows something is up with Kyla." My fingers begin tapping on my desk. I find I have to do something to distract myself from the murderous thoughts running through my mind.
"He knows her name?" Darius stands from the chair, his hands set into fists by his side.
"That is dangerous for her. He shouldn't know her name." He practically yells out into the empty room. As his hands fly in the air.
"I'm not certain he does, but I wouldn't put it past him. That is why my brother came home early. To snoop for him, get his intel on the situation at hand until he can make it back himself." I say matter-of-factly.
"Fuck!" He explodes, before walking away from the chair.
I sit back, contemplating what could be the best angle to take with this situation, as I watch him pace back and forth. I know my father, all too well unfortunately. I know the bastard, is going to return here soon, I can only hope we still have days and not only hours.
"What do you suggest we do if he returns here soon?" The sound of Darius's voice pulls me from my thoughts.
"Well," I start as I stand from my chair. I walk around to the front of my desk and lean against it. Folding my arms in front of my chest, I lean my body back, getting ready for him to lose his shit.
"If he returns as soon as I think he is going to. I mean, my brother has been back for a few days now. So, to be honest, father could return anytime now." I take a deep breath and release it through my nose.
"You're not suggesting?" His words cut off as he glares in my direction.
"Yes, I am. I think she would be safest back with her uncle and cousins for the time being." Sadness clouds my tone with each word coming from my mouth.
"Are you nuts! She's a vampire now. Not half anymore, she's a full-on blood sucking vampire. And you want to send her to the rebel camp. With the people that despise our kind and are afraid of us." His hands are flinging in the air as he talks. Showing me just how much of a bad idea he believes this to be.
"It's not ideal, but I believe her uncle and cousins can keep her safe. They don't even need to take her to the camp with the rest of their people." I say with reason.
He's quiet for a minute. Doing nothing but looking towards the only window in the room. As though he's trying to think about this. Almost trying to look out and see where she could go off to while we figure out what my father has planned. When he looks back at me, I can see the indecision held within his eyes.
"I just want her safe." His shoulders sag.
I know how he feels. This situation isn't a desirable one. I don't wish for Kyla to be away from me, that's the last thing I want. Plus, we cannot be away from one another for long. But I know I need to feel my father out when he returns first, so I can work out what he may try to do. For that, I need her away from this castle. To be somewhere he cannot just walk a few minutes down a few hallways and reach her.
"That's all I want too. I know this isn't ideal. Hell, I don't even know myself how safe she will be, but I know it will be better if she isn't under the same roof as our fathers."
"Yes, I know what you mean. For all we know he could be coming back here to kill her. The one person that stands in the way to him getting what he wants most. More power." He barely speaks the last two words.
We both stand there, in the silence. Allowing the dread to eat us alive. I cannot say for how long, but when the door opens, and my cousin Satine stands there with Kyla beside her I know they heard the entire discussion. Seeing the look on Kyla's face, I know she is afraid. I can also see the stubbornness that is within her.
This is going to be a fight if her body language is telling me anything. They step into the room, Satine is worrying her lip, while Kyla is just glaring at me.
"So, you think the best way to go about this is to send me away?" She folds her arms in front of her chest, sticks out her hip, and taps her foot for emphasis.
I know she's being serious right now. I realize she's pissed beyond belief. However, the stance she is in, her little show of defiance has a smirk making its way to my lips. She looks sexy in all her glory, standing in front of me, ready for a fight. My mouth is salivating with the idea of sinking my teeth into her right now.
