Jack's POV

"Jack! Jack! Let's play!" Emma giggles running around in the log cabin our family is saying in for our winter vacation.

"Emma stop running, you'll fall over." Mom says from inside the kitchen while smiling at Emma's giggle. Emma's laugh is impossible not to smile at.

Emma runs up to me and hugs my leg, "But I want to play, please Jack!" She begs then looks at mom, "Pleeeaasee?" She pleads making puppy dog eyes.

Mom sighs smiling, "Fine, just be careful." Mom gives in and I smile taking Emma's hand then grab her ice skates and take her out to the ice.

"Ok Jack watch me." She says sitting me down on a tree trunk then going on the ice. She turns around to make sure I'm looking and I smile waving. She smiles and waves back then starts to skate on the ice and preform tricks.

Emma is part of Burgess' ice skating team and she goes to ice skating competitions all over the country. She's never off the ice and if she does come off she wants to go back on straight after.

"Jack come skate with me!" She giggles skating over to me and taking my hands. She pulls me towards the ice then let's go of my hands and skates again. I pick up a staff that's leaning against the tree next to me and walk onto the ice using that as support while watching my feet since unlike her I'm not wearing skates and I slowly walk towards her.

She then falls over and I'm about to go over to her when the ice cracks under her. She looks up at me terrified, "Jack I'm scared." She says while tears stream down her face.

The ice cracks more making her whimper and I get an idea and smile, "It's ok, let's have a little fun instead." I say.

"Jack this isn't fun." She sobs.

I nod and hush her, "I know, I know, let's...play a game." I say then nod smiling, "Yeah, let's play hopscotch like you do at school." I say and she sniffs then nods.

"O-Ok.." She stutters trying to stop her tears from falling. I hold the staff in my hands ready to grab her then take a step the the right, "One..." I trail off and the ice cracks a bit more making her gasp. I take another step again, "T-Two- whoaaa!" I pretend to loose my balance making her giggle and making me smile then I step forward, close enough to grab her and slide her off the ice.

I look at her relieved, "Jack we did it!" She laughs then the ice cracks under me more and breaks making me fall in. "Jack!" She screams. I try to swim back up to the top but it seems to get further and further away and after what seems like hours of drowning the cold shuts down my body and I go into darkness.
