III
I followed Finn and Clarke back to the drop ship, deciding to not follow Finn when he climbed onto the roof, which did, admittedly, amuse me greatly.
I sat beside Clarke as she marked things on a map, watching as she worked out how far it would be to get to Mount Weather.
She stopped writing and I looked up at her to see why she had stopped. Wells, the Chancellors son was walking toward us.
"The communication system is dead. I went to the roof," he paused, throwing his hand up.
"The wires are fried," he explained.
I swung my legs back and forth while listening to Wells tell us what was broken.
"All that matters right now is getting to Mount Weather. See, this is us," she turned back to the map and drew a dot on the paper.
"And this is where we need to be," she explained, using a piece of metal as a ruler to draw a straight line to another point on the map.
"Where'd you learn to do that?" He asked, impressed.
Clarke glared at Wells and then looked away quickly, swallowing thickly.
"Your father," he realised, a sour expression making its way across his face.
I glanced back and forth between them, watching as they awkwardly made conversation.
"Cool, a map," I heard a familiar voice say.
I looked up to see Jasper right next to me, smiling goofily.
"Where can I find a bar in this town? I'll buy you a drink," he smiled, looking up at me.
I giggled but it was quickly cut off as Wells pushed him back.
"You mind?" He asked.
"Whoa, whoa, hey. He's with us," a boy with greasy long hair said, walking up the hill, flanked by his cronies.
"Relax," Wells stuck his hands up, looking to the map and back to the boy again.
"We're just trying to figure out where we are."
"We're on the ground, is that not good enough for you?" I heard Bellamy ask. He had also appeared out of nowhere, Octavia by his side.
Wells looked at the greasy haired boy before walking a few steps toward Bellamy.
"We need to find Mount Weather. You heard my fathers message. It should be our first priority," Wells explained, looking around at the gathering group of people.
"Screw your father," Octavia fired.
"You think you're in charge here? You and your little Princess?" She looked to Clarke and smirked nastily.
"Do you think we care who's in charge?" Clarke asked, moving forward.
"We need to get to Mount Weather. Not because the Chancellor says so but because the longer we wait, the hungrier we'll get and the harder this'll be," she said, looking at the group of people.
"How long do you think we'll last without those supplies?" I asked from my perch on the ramp next to the map.
"We're looking at a twenty mile trek. So, if we want to get there before dark, we need to leave. Now," Clarke finished.
I looked over at the mass of people, seeing if our speeches had motivated anyone to our side. I was disappointed to see not many.
"I've got a better idea. You three go. Find it for us," Bellamy crossed his arms.
"Let the privileged do the work for once," he added, smirking. I felt anger flood my body. He had no idea what I have been through and I most definitely was not one of the privileged.
"You're not listening. We all need to go," Wells said, looking at everyone as if they'd magically follow his orders.
I saw the greasy haired kid walk past me and towards Wells. Once he shoved Wells, I stood up, ready to beat the shit out of him if he hurt Wells too badly.
"Look at this everybody. Chancellor of Earth," he smirked.
"Think that's funny?" Wells asked, getting angry.
The kid pushed Wells to the ground and I stalked forward.
I gripped his shoulder and whipped him around to face me.
"Let's get one thing straight," I hissed, pointing my finger at his face.
"If you even think about hur-" I was silenced with a fist to the face and I stumbled back, clutching my now bleeding nose.
Rage began to cloud my senses and and started to breathe heavily. The kid was laughing with his friends and all I could see was red.
I stalked forward and surprised him by shoving him to the ground. He looked startled for a second as I sat down and straddled his waist.
I punched him in the face, watching with satisfaction as he groaned. I repeatedly attacked him with my fist and he started to bleed. I felt hands trying to grab at me to get me off. I managed to land one more punch his throat before I was dragged backwards by someone.
I could hear the kid spluttering and gasping for breath and it filled me with a sick sense of satisfaction.
"You shouldn't have done that," I heard Finn say from beside me.
"And why not?" I replied, watching as the kid scrambled to his feet, pushing away the hands of his cronies.
He didn't answer, just looked as the boy I had just bashed walked into the drop ship.

"Mount Weather, when do we leave?" I asked, walking towards Clarke and Wells.
"Now," Clarke replied.
"I'm coming too," Wells said, trying to get up.
"No, you're not coming. Your leg will slow us down," Clarke said, standing up and brushing herself off.
"How are you three going to carry enough food for a hundred?" Wells asked. I only then noticed Finn standing beside Clarke.
He then turned around and grabbed onto Jasper's and his friend's shoulders, ripping them from their previous conversation with a group of teenagers and turning them to face us.
"Five of us. Can we go now?" He asked, ignoring Jasper's confused glances.
"Sounds like a party. Make it six," Octavia said, appearing out of nowhere.
"Hey, Octavia, what the hell are you doing?" Bellamy growled, also appearing from the shadows.
"Going for a walk," she answered.
"Hey," Clarke disrupted, walking towards Finn.
"Were you trying to take this off?" She hissed, bringing his wrist closer to examine it.
The bracelet he was wearing was scratched and damaged. I looked to my own and sighed.
"Yeah, so?" He asked, shrugging with a smirk.
"This transmits your vital signs to the Ark. Take them off and they'll think you're dead," Clarke explained, dropping his arm.
I looked over to Bellamy, noticing his eyes follow Clarke's hand and his jaw clenched. He was hiding something.
"Should I care?" Finn replied, bringing my attention back to the conversation at hand.
"I don't know. Do you want the people you care about to think you're dead?" She shot back. Finn clenched his fist and then released it again. "Do you want them to follow us down here in two months because they won't if they think we're dying," she explained, throwing his hand from her grip.
"Guys, lets go," I said, trying to get the group moving. We needed those supplies and the faster we got them, the better.
One by one, the members of our group moved off in the direction of the trees. I watched as Bellamy nodded at his younger sister, allowing her to accompany us. He looked at me before saying anything.
"Hey, you, if anything happens to my sister, its on you," he pointed an accusatory finger at me. Great, now I was babysitting as well?
"Righto, sir," I said with a huff. This Bellamy wasn't really part of the Guard, was he?
I ran to catch up with everyone. I fell in line at the back, making sure that no one would get left behind.
The others made small talk for a while, chatting about everything from their childhood to the wildest stories they'd heard back in the Ark. I remained silent, much like Clarke, who was at the very front, powering forward without a glance back.
The Earth was more beautiful than I could ever imagine. The colours were so... vibrant. Some of them I had never even seen or heard of before. On the Ark, most colour came from our clothes and even then, time had worn them out.
We passed a flower bed filled with blooming purple flowers. I looked on them with wonder. Finn picked one and put it in Octavia's hair. She smiled shyly and blushed up at him. He smirked back, one of those melting ones that you often get from players and such.
"Now, that, my friend, is game," Jasper grinned, adjusting his goggles on his head and looking at his friend, who's name I had yet to learn.
"That, my friend, is Poison Sumac," he replied, picking one of the flowers and eating it. Wait, if it was poisonous, why on Earth, did he just eat it?
Upon hearing the name of the pretty flower, Octavia flicked it out of her hair as quickly as she could.
"Its poisonous?!" She asked, looking back at the ethnic teen. He shrugged.
"The flower isn't. Its medicinal, calming," he explained. I listened, eager to learn about Earth.
"Monty's family grows all the pharmaceuticals on the Ark," Jasper explained, sensing our confusion about how he knew this. Monty, so thats his name. Good to know.
Suddenly, up ahead, Clarke turned around.
"Can you please keep up?"
"Come on, Princess, lighten up. How can you even block this out?" Finn asked, gesturing to the beauty that is nature that surrounded us.
"It's easy. I think, why haven't we seen any animals yet? Maybe there aren't any. Maybe, we've already been exposed to enough radiation to kill us. Sure is pretty though, now come on."
I chuckled and kept moving. Clarke was going to be a good leader. A pain in the ass, definitely, but a good leader nonetheless.
A few more minutes passed in silence, much to the awkwardness of everyone. Everyone except for Clarke anyway.
"So, I have to know, what did the two of you get busted for?" Finn asked after a moment.
"Sumac isn't the only herb in the garden, if you know what I mean," Monty answered, grinning.
"Somebody forgot to replace what we took," Jasper said, looking pointedly at his best friend.
"Somebody has apologised like a thousand times," he replied, groaning.
"What about you, Alex?" Monty asked, looking back at me.
"I'd rather not say," I said, nervous.
"Oh, I bet it was something good," Jasper said.
"What about you, Octavia, what'd they get you for?" I asked, not realising under the pressure what a stupid question that was.
"Being born," she hissed, running forward.
"You scared her off. Good job," Jasper sighed. I merely shrugged.
I saw Clarke crouching down just ahead and we all ran forward cautiously. We crouched around her, wondering why she was down in the first place. She was smiling so it had to be something good.
I heard a snort and looked up to see an animal. It had antlers and thick fur. Deer, I think.
"No animals, huh?" Finn asked. I smiled, watching as it sniffed at the ground. Finn stepped on a twig and upon hearing the loud snap, the animal jerked its head in our direction. We all jumped back. The deer had two heads. One slightly deformed. I grimaced as it ran away, feet clopping on the ground as it went.
"Well, that was... disturbing," I said, looking at where it had disappeared.
"Come on, lets keep moving," Clarke said, standing up again.
We all followed her forward, eager to find this damn Mount Weather.
a/n: the image attached is a cover made by the wonderfully talented hyperparadise . I would use it, but I've changed the title of the story and whatnot. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this chapter and don't forget to let me know what you're thinking.
