The movie was a good one. It was about a young Vampire girl who had to move from town to town, and have her father kill people and give her a tub full of blood otherwise she’d have to go out and do it herself. It was pretty good... but I dreaded the ending.
The ending of the movie would mean I would have to talk to Matt. He would start asking questions about what Lola and I were arguing about, and that’s when I would blush, and then he’d ask why I turned all red, and then that’s where I’d confess my undying love for him. But obviously I'm thinking too much, and that would probably never happen.
I smiled when I realized how stupid I sounded in my head. I always somehow manage to over think and over analyze everything. In the end it never turns out to be the way I thought it would be either.
Even the big bucket of popcorn had disappeared without me helping to get rid of it all. In fact, I'm pretty sure that as Lola and Matthew devoured it together their hands touched multiple times. And whenever I looked over at her, she was always smiling to herself. Ugh, she’s such a little flirt...
The lights began to brighten and I stood up with Matt and Lola after the credits finished rolling off of the screen.
“Do you want to go home now, Mel?” he asked, turning to me. I shook my head, not daring to look at him in the face.
The reason I didn’t want to go home just yet was because I just didn’t want to be alone in the car with him; do you know how much that would freak me out? I was certain that he had a hunch that I had a crush on him, which if you couldn’t have guessed by now, is a bad thing.
“Alright then, where do you want to go?” he asked me with a smile. I shrugged, unsure of myself... and still too nervous to look him in the eyes.
“We could go to that cute little coffee shop down the road,” Suggested Lola abruptly butting into where she didn’t belong. He turned towards her and nodded, while I gave myself a mental slap in the face... why did I just do that? I got so embarrassed all of a sudden and I couldn’t even speak!
Wait, wasn’t this just supposed to be Matt and me anyways? Where does she get off thinking she can hang out with us without being invited? Plus, because of our earlier argument before the movie began I'm pretty sure he thinks I like him now...
“Mel? Are you okay?” asked a very much concerned Matthew.
“Oh yeah... for sure,” I replied looking into his eyes, but regretting it immediately when I found my face getting warm.
“Alright then let’s go,” he motioned as he walked through the rows of seats and towards the door. I followed closely behind, mostly because of the dim lights. I find that most of the time I see things whenever it’s dark so I’ve become mildly afraid of the dark.
Lola led the way towards the Cafe across the street while Matt and I followed. There were dark clouds in the sky still and I started to worry. There was definitely something weird about to happen.
We walked in and sat at the first table available. A window seat thankfully, that way I’d get to watch the storm pass by peacefully, without incident.
I knew as the winds picked up that it wasn’t going to pass by any time soon. in fact, it was getting darker by the second...
“Are you listening at all?” asked a voice. I snapped back quickly, realizing that I was indeed ignoring Matt again. Geez, what’s up with me? “Oh, sorry, what did you say again?”
“I just asked what you were talking to Lola about,” he smiled. I looked around but noticed that she wasn’t around.
“She just went to the washroom, don’t worry about it,” he replied, seeing my flustered expression.
“Um, nothing really important,” I flushed.
“Well the two of you seemed really worked up about something, so I was just wondering,” he laughed.
“Oh, okay.”
We were both silent for a moment longer, until he decided to break it. “So about your sister...”
“What about her?”
“Did she honestly like me that much?” he asked.
“Yeah... it was stupid. She’d cried all the time because you didn’t like her back,” I stated. I bit my tongue when I saw the look o his face... it was a pure look of guilt.
“Don’t worry about it though,” I assured, “it’s not your fault you liked someone else.”
“Right... so I'm guessing she told you everything then?”
“Yeah I guess she did, why?” I asked carefully, watching as his face flushed slowly.
“Even about whom it is I like?” he asked. I thought about it for a moment... I don’t think she had ever told me who it was. She only ever said that it wasn’t her and that he did indeed like somebody else.
“I don’t think so...” I said pondering it for a moment.
“Well I-”
“I'm back guys!” Lola interrupted. I glared at her when she sat down. I was just about to find out who Matt was crushing on. He smiled at her happily and then it hit me... was it her? Was it her name that Matthew was about to say?
She smiled at me ruefully, making me want to hit her or do something that would wipe her petty smile from her face. I smiled back, with a little bit more spite than intended; causing her to look away quickly and back over to Matt who was staring out the window at all of the storm clouds and wind.
“Do you guys want anything to drink at all?” he asked suddenly. Lola and I both nodded vigorously.
“Just a coffee for me,” I said.
“Same,” Lola smiled.
“Awesome, I’ll be right back then,” he laughed. As soon as he was gone Lola and I were back to glaring at each other again.
“So, are you and Matt an item then?” she asked.
“No, why would we be? He likes someone else.”
“Oh,” she said looking slightly disappointed, “well it could be me right?”
“I suppose it could be...” I muttered.
“I hope so,” she smiled devilishly, “he’s so cute.”
“Yeah,” I agreed quietly.
“Who’s cute?” Matt asked as he sat down with our coffee. Lola and I looked at each other, shock covering both our faces and we both quickly turned red.
“Uh, nobody!” we both cried in unison. Matt laughed, causing our faces to turn into a deeper colour of red. We definitely didn’t expect him to come back so soon.
“I hope it doesn’t storm again,” I quickly said looking out of the window. Lola snickered at my attempt to change the subject.
“I know, eh? It’s been so rainy lately,” Matt frowned.
I watched him intently as he stared out the window. I would honestly do anything to be with him... I just wish that I knew whom he liked. I glanced at Lola quickly. She was very pretty... I would not doubt if he liked her actually. She is very smart, too, from what I’ve seen in class anyways.
“Hey Mel, are you sure you’re okay?” asked Matt worriedly, “maybe we should go home...”
I nodded in agreement this time. Maybe it was better to go home than to worry about whom he liked for another hour or two.
We stood up and said our goodbyes to Lola, who looked very upset by the way, and we headed outside towards the car in the rain.
By the time we made it to the car, we were completely drenched. I'm pretty sure I was going to ruin the seats what with all of the water dripping from me, but Matt didn’t seem to mind much, plus he looked even worse than me.
As we started on our way, I pulled down the sun visor and looked into the mirror. My hair was a mess, just great. I'm in a car with the one boy I like and I look like a disaster zone. Fan-freaking-tastic...
Then something hit me, as I glared at the mirror I realized it wasn’t me I was looking at. In fact, it was my sister. I quickly shut the sun visor and sank into my seat.
“What’s wrong? You look like you’ve just seen a ghost,” he laughed. I thought of what to say without sounding crazy. Maybe if I just told him the truth?
“I just saw Harmony in the mirror,” I squeaked.
“Um... what do you mean you just saw her in the mirror?”
“Like, instead of me I was seeing her!” I exclaimed.
“In case you don’t remember... you’re twins. Obviously, you’re going to see her in the mirror every time you even look into it.”
I frowned. He made a good point... but I thought it was a logical explanation that I was seeing her, because I’d been seeing weird things all week. It just made sense to me.
As we neared my house, I started to get a strange feeling. I quickly turned to him , “do you want to come inside?”
He looked surprised and speechless for a moment, but there was no way I was going inside by myself.
“Sure,” he finally managed to say.
We got out of the car and started to make our way towards the house. I prayed quietly to myself that nothing bad would happen. That I wouldn’t have to see anything that I didn’t want to see.
We walked inside and took off our shoes. I searched around the kitchen, making sure that there wasn’t anything there.
“Let’s watch another movie,” I suggested. He smiled and nodded in agreement. We walked to the living room in silence. I was glad I had asked Matt to stay here with me. I was terrified of being home alone lately and he was just what I needed to get my mind off everything that’s been happening lately.
“What movies do you have?” he asked as I began rummaging in our movie cabinet. I pulled out a few movies, noticing that a lot of them were horror movies. Harmony had always been in love with these kinds of films.
“Mostly horror,” I laughed, “but I'm sure we have something that isn’t.”
I finally managed to find one that wasn’t, and stuck it in the DVD player.
“I hope you don’t mind if we watch Tangled,” I smiled.
“Not at all,” he grinned.
I sat next to him as the movie began. I’ve seen this movie like a million times before... but it just doesn’t seem to ever get old for me. It’s got to be the cutest movie alive.
As the movie went on it started to remind me of the conversation that Matt and me were having earlier... when he was about to tell me who he liked.
I know I’ve been trying to avoid this conversation for a while... but its better to find out now than to get heartbroken later on when I find out the hard way.
“So, about what we were talking about earlier... before Lola interrupted us...” I started.
“It you,” he replied.
“Huh?” I asked.
“It’s you,” he repeated.
“I don’t understand, I-” but I stopped halfway through my sentence when I saw something standing room next to us. it was dark, so it was hard to make out if there was really anything there... but I knew better. I scooted closer to Matthew, causing a confused look to come over his face.
“There’s something in that room over there,” I mumbled frightfully.
“No there’s not,” he assured me as he studied the dark room. I nodded vigorously, eying the dark corner suspiciously. I could definitely see something there, why was it that only I could see these things whenever they happen?
“Just relax and watch the movie, I'm sure it’ll be gone before you know it,” he assured me again.
“I have a question...” I whispered as I finally managed to relax.
“Ask away,” he smiled.
“Do you by any chance like Lola?”
“Didn’t I already answer this question?” he answered.
“No-” I started... and then I suddenly remembered what he had said a few minutes ago.
“It’s you,” he mentioned again. I sat up straight and looked at him, unsure of what to say.
“Me?” I asked, making sure that I had heard right.
“Yup,” he nodded, a faint blush creeping up on his cheeks.
I found my face beginning to get hot. In fact, my cheeks were practically on fire because of how badly I was blushing.
We both quiet after that and watched the rest of the movie, neither of us daring to look at each other... although I managed to steal a few glimpses of him without him noticing thankfully.
As soon as my parents got home, Matt left. My parents were both surprised that Matt had been here this late, but they didn’t question it and went straight to bed. I went to my bedroom as well, and lay there awake while thinking about everything that had happen today. In fact, I didn’t even see anything spooky in my room for the rest of the night
