More WoF Ships;; More Opinions
AUTHOR'S NOTE;; So many 5/10s!
Since my last one got sooooooooo many positive comments (cue the homophobic twelve-year-olds, Winterwatcher enthusiasts and "How can you not ship Glorybringer????!1.!!" army), I decided to continue with a few more ships I found floating around.
Hey - I'm a trashcan.
- Siri Mom :-).
--
OCHRIS;;
Famous from @lightning-skybreaker's fanfiction, Wings Of Fire: Blank Space, is Ochre and his beloved chicken nugget, Chris. Forever and always, these two will occupy a special place in my heart (even if the next chapter did rip it out and stamp on it).
10/10 - may they never die.
PINEMONE;; Hamilton SeaWings or leave me to cry.
I don't know why, but for some reason I'm a complete sucker for Pike and Anemone as a couple. It's pretty clear based on his train of thought and behaviours that he's been hired (or threatened) by Queen Coral to protect the princess at all costs; and his treatment of her is just the cutest! Offering her a fish, complimenting her swimming, protecting her and scolding himself when he isn't around her for every second of the time.
One of my favourite headcanons is the idea of an official marriage between the two; arranged perhaps by Queen Coral, with the aid of her ever-trusty Shark. Anemone would hate the idea, but Pike would be patient and allow her to take control of the relationship. While she would hate him and possible shout, he would tolerate this with ease and allow her to do what she will. She would want to escape, more than ever - to the extent of running away from the palace. Alone and cold, she'd eventually succumb to exhaustion. And then, he'd carry her back.
He'd be waiting. Waiting for love (Avicii reference), waiting for her, waiting for the day she discovers the strength to reciprocate his feelings.
"And I'm willing to wait for it."
Solid 8/10 - I'm not a trashcan, I swear.
TURTMOON/MOONTLE;; Not many with me on this one.
Okay, I'll confess - this is one of my hidden favourites.
From the second I read Moon Rising, I had a long thing about who to ship. A very brief "Oh, really?" when I saw Winter, followed by an intense "I LOVE QIBLI" phase and finally, after the [Moon Rising spoilers; I repeat, Moon Rising spoilers] history cave explosion and the scene in the underground lakes shortly afterwards, [spoilers over, you can relax] a calm, ongoing Turtle phase. The fact that the others literally left her sobbing - and that he decided to help her - kind of warmed me to him.
Turtle seems to be a very introspective individual, with a need for company but a lack of desire to be made the centre of attention. I think he'd be a good cornerstone for Moon; they'd be the quiet couple who do cute things like paint pictures and weave flower crowns and leave each other little notes and gifts.
7/10 for this one; I ship both with other dragons, but I would be pleasantly surprised if it became canon.
FIERCEWINGS;; Good grief, a canon ship. That's a first.
Much like Mangrove and Orchid, Fierceteeth and Strongwings are one of the most underappreciated couples in the fandom. I personally think his personality really suits her, and I found her descriptions of him in Prisoners to be quite charming!
If I'm following right, I'm pretty sure these two will end up antagonists - which means opposite the battlefield to Moon, Peril, the dragonets and at least two animi. Not a good sign.
Relying on Tui not to shatter my heart and kill either of them.
I'd honestly love to see them heal.
7/10 - I wish we could've seen more development than a novella.
CARNIPER;; "Hey, I just met you. And this is crazy..."
For the comments, that's Carnelian and Viper.
An Instagram friend introduced me to this a while ago - as two of the most unappreciated characters in the series, I could very easily conjure up some fluff about these two.
... Okay, it would help if the two actually met.
But who says angels can't fall in love?
I might use that line for a fanfiction, actually.
7/10 - an awful lot for a pair of dragons who don't know of the other's existence.
QINTER;; Why does everyone spell it "Quinter"?
"Bro."
"What, bro?"
"Tell the whole world we're bros."
"We're bros."
"Why'd you whisper, bro?"
"Because you're my whole world, bro."
"Bro."
Maybe bro will be their always - but in and out of the friendzone, this is one of my favourite things. And, let's be real, we've all seen Qibli flirting with Winter; "See, you're my destiny?".
Qibli was the singular best clawmate for Winter; already, we've seen his character change so much through the course of the series. He's had little to no means of expressing his personality or sentiments; Qibli provides him with a safe, funny place to be himself and finally feel loved. I ship this more than Wintermoon or Moonbli, but Umbli still tops it all.
6.5/10 - platonic or otherwise, I love these two. Almost as much as they love each other.
THORNDER;; TBN spoiler warning.
This kinda became a brief thing with me when I first paged through TBN. Additionally, the dragonet would be an official royal and a blood royal, being related to both Thorn (the official queen) and Oasis - which could be a solution to the current situation.
6/10 - no chemistry as of yet, but it'd be a good addition to the plot.
TBN spoilers over.
FLIPER/VAME;; We get it, Viper, you vape.
Viper and Flame, if the ship name didn't give it away.
I'd ship this a lot more aggressively if it weren't for my (very many) external ships. I do think they'd be a tad... dangerous... together, though.
5/10 - perhaps not romantic, but definitely partners in crime.
RIPNEMONE;;
Okay I had this way higher I just want to add that I do not ship dragonet!Anemone with adult!Riptide. I'd only ship this much later in life - when Anemone was older and an adult, and possibly queen too. I am in no way supporting pedophilia. I do not think any minor should date an adult, with or without consent. They should wait until adulthood to make the decision.
While I don't exactly ship Ripnami, I (not-as-severely omfgwhatwasIonwhileIwrotethis) ship Ripnemone. She's very fussy by nature, and he seems more quiet and tranquil - though still humorous. The age jump is a tad large, but I have seen bigger in and outside the canon (as well as several other books - cough, Warriors).
8/10, let's make a love triangle with a sobbing Siri in the middle.
GLORYNAMI;; Just give me lesbians.
It'll give a huge scare to the Glorybringers and Ripnamians, but if I had to ship these two with anyone, it would without hesitation be each other. I loved their incessant bickering throughout the first two books - hey, they already argue like a married couple! - and I'd love to see the pair bonding over royal drama.
I do, however, prefer the idea of platonic!Dragonets of Destiny; some people need to figure out that not everything needs romance.
Of course, this would mean some serious war between Deathbringer and Tsunami.
7/10, since it's certainly far from canon.
SQUIDSPEAKER;;
Yes, Fatespeaker begged Morrowseer not to send Squid away. Yes, Squid grabbed her talons. Yes, he said at the beginning that she was the only one who didn't bite him.
No, children, this does not signify a romance.
Aside from the fact that Cooked Sushi is one of my reasons to live, I feel like their personalities are almost too clashy in the wrong areas, and too similar in others.
I'd maaaaaaybe reconsider this if they met again sometime; for the meantime, please, nobody encourage me. This isn't a total no-go with me.
5/10 - maybe?
DEATHSPEAKER;; Well, why not?
I've seen this ship quite a bit in the fandom - mostly under the trampling feet of the (very aggressive) Glorybringer crew. And while I ship both dragons more with others - Fatespeaker and Starflight, Deathbringer and Greatness - I wouldn't entirely mind if these two got together.
He'd make for a very good partner - they're both eccentric, in their own way. I can imagine that, since both spent quite some time isolated from the Night Kingdom, they'd be able to bond over this.
... Honestly, though, I'd probably only really get into this to slap the Glory fans in the face.
5/10, since I haven't had any feels for this as of yet.
TAMARIKE;; The ship name is cooler than the ship.
That poor little RainWing, Pike tragically thought one afternoon in Moon Rising. And that was where it all began. Suddenly, the pair were swept up in a hoard of enthusiastic FanWings, based on little to no chemistry in the hopes of another heterosexual coupling.
And that pretty much sums up my feelings on this ship. It'd be cute, but I don't think he'd be best suited to Tamarin.
4/10 for the awesome name.
WINTERJOU;; Still better than Wintermoon.
She very plainly had a crush on him, although I would definitely question Winter's own feelings.
I think this would be quite a cute idea, if not for Winter's very obvious feelings for Moon. I honestly think she grew tired of him in Winter Turning, too - something I'm incredibly proud of her for. She's a strong little gal.
Their personalities would work very well, though - hey, opposites attract!
And I'd pay to see Tundra and Narwhal's faces when their son announces he's in love with a RainWing.
3.5/10 for the parental reacion.
WHIRLTIDE;;
Ever since stArchaeopteryx on DA (for those of you who don't recognise the name, that's liighty) drew that one picture of the two, this ship seems to have been growing more popular.
As much as I support the LGBT+ community, I feel that the age gap is waaay too big between these two. There's no possible form of chemistry, either.
3/10; yay for gay, nay for age gap of 10 years+.
QIBLIJOU;;
This is growing more and more popular with the Winterwatcher side of the fandom; double dates and the such, and twin optimists.
Let me make one thing clear: Qibli. Is. Not. Only. A class clown. He's also a sensitive individual with scars (refer to snout, heh) who wants to live his life free of pain. The only dragons I've ever really shipped Kinkajou with are Moonwatcher and Tamarin, which says quite a bit about my own queer self.
Although she did indeed think he was cute, very clearly, she seemed to be more physically attracted to him than emotionally. I prefer these two as a platonic friendship more than anything else.
2/10 for platonic points.
DARKWATCHER;; People ship this...?
I've seen a few, and honestly, it's right along there with Smunny/Sunder - noooooooooo!
Darkstalker is way too old for Moon. Additionally, that was some pretty mean manipulation in MR.
0/10 - short review, quick conclusion. NO.
