Chapter One

I saw the bird-like man stroll into the G.C.P.D office like he wasn't afraid of getting arrested. I knew about his reputation ever since the beginning. However, I felt something strange about him, I wasn't afraid. I wasn't scared of him even when I knew what he had done.

I greeted him calmly by standing next to him. He asked what I wanted from him, so I responded with a riddle. I asked him, "The poor have it, the rich need it, and if you eat it, you die." The answer was nothing. He was obviously confused and asked if I had asked a riddle. In response, I asked if he liked riddles. He said no.

"Do you know who I am?" He asked. I said I did. "Then you know you're standing too close." And with one step back, that was our first encounter.

But that was a long time ago. Even though fear had not corrupted me, I still did not care to be around the strange man. It was only after I had murdered Miss Kringle, that I wanted to see him again, for I knew I shared a certain type of insanity with him.

We had become best friends almost instantly due to the both of us being insane. Not only that, but that the both of us shared the fact that we had both gone to Arkham. Once I had escaped and had my name cleared, Oswald and I killed off Dr. Strange's monsters, and Oswald became Mayor of Gotham.

As mayor, he appointed me his Chief of Staff, and we did many great things to clean up Gotham. In the spite of all of this, I had fallen in love with another woman named Isabella. Little did I know, I also grew feelings for Oswald, and it was until Isabella was dead that I realize d this.

There was one bad thing about all of this, I was mad about Isabella's death and I found out that someone murdered her. I felt determined to find out who killed her. And it hurt when I heard that Barbara Kean told me it was Penguin. But the reason he did, shocked me the most, and I had to figure out if what she told me was true.

One afternoon, I was helping Oswald with the agenda and paperwork he needed to fill out as mayor. As this was happening, I needed to know if Barbara was telling the truth. I tried to trick Penguin into signing my removal as his Chief of Staff, but he quickly pointed it out. After this, I had suggested that we become more than just friends.

"I have been feeling the same." He gasped as he grabbed my shoulders with a broad smile, "I didn't want to mention it.. because of all the awfulness about Isabelle-"

I felt the need to correct him as anger for him killing my love filled inside of me, "Isabella!" I yelled ferociously.

He let out a sense of annoyance from me correcting him, but that didn't stop him from continuing, "But.." he started as he gave me a sincere look, "one cannot deny love."

A loud gasp emerged from my mouth as I had heard what he just said, I was astonished. However, I didn't know if he was being truthful, for I did not know if I truly shared the same feelings considering I just had my love snatched away from me.

A worried look spread across Oswald's face as he backed away from me, "Wh-what is it? Wh-what's wrong?" He asked with concern.

"There.." I said softly, avoiding eye contact with the Penguin, "There's been a misunderstanding. I was going to.. propose that we become partners. Business partners.."

"Partners?" He repeated in a question as if he didn't understand what I was saying, and he took a few more steps back from me, "Then-"

I shook him away as I looked away from him, "Excuse me." I said, fully turning away from him, and exiting the room.

Even though I couldn't see his face at the time, I knew I crushed him. I couldn't help it, he killed the women I had loved, who made me who I was.

But after some time, I realized he also played a big role in making me who I was. There was no Edward Nygma without The Penguin, and there was no Penguin without Edward Nygma. Deep down inside of me, I needed Oswald, and I had failed to realize that I really did share the same feelings, but I locked myself up in my room instead.

Days went by without a word from Penguin and I was still locked up in my room. Dreadful silence filled the gigantic manor, where not even the maid could be heard. I kept plenty of food and water in my room from when Isabella passed, so I was ready to keep to myself in my room.

Weeks went by, and there was still no word from Penguin. Starting to get anxious that something happened to him, I left my room to see where he was. I hadn't bathed or took care of myself since the incident. My hair was matted, my hair was starting to get longer, I started to have a beard growing, and I smelled like tears and regret. When escaping the room, I found the maid and asked her where Oswald was.

"Oh, de Mayor. He was kidnapped by a young blonde girl and a dark-haired girl." She said with a hard Russian accent.

My heart dropped. I let him get captured by Barbara and Tabitha right under my nose because I was so mad about what had happened weeks before. I had to find him, and fast. As much as I didn't want to admit it, I was scared that he was already dead.

I knew how that I needed to find him, so I quickly cut my hair, slicked it back, shaved my face, took a shower, and got into my green suit. Due to the small fight we had, my OCD didn't bother me because I was so upset. Once I was happy with my look, I rushed outside to the car and drove to Barbara and Tabitha's club, for I knew he had to be there if kidnapped by them.

Once I walked in, I was immediately greeted by guards who didn't let me in. I looked up at them and gave a sly smile, "What people are always in a hurry?" I asked, hoping I was going to stump them so I could kill them. Their confused faces told me they didn't know, as I took out my gun and shot them both in the chest. I chuckled softly as I passed their limp, dead bodies, "The answer was Russians, boys."

I continued walking around the bar when I saw my target, Oswald, tied up to a chair on the stage. He was badly bruised and cut as if he had been tortured in that chair ever since he was born. His mouth wasn't covered, but his arms and legs were bound to a sturdy, wooden chair.

"E-Ed!" He yelled as he saw me walk in, "Thank god you're here! Butch, Tabitha, and Barbara all kidnapped me last week. I-I've been tortured non-stop.." he paused as if he didn't know what to say next as he looked down at the floor for words. He gently rose his face up to look at me before saying, "Ed... I know you probably don't share the same feelings for me, nor do you think of me the same. I understand if you want to quit, but please help me out of here."

Of course, I had to help him and get him out of there. I quickly started to untie his wrists until I heard a distinct sound of heels clicking only a little bit behind me.

I could hear Barbara's annoying chuckle as she got closer to me, "Well, well, well. Who do we have here? Another gay man trying to untie his boyfriend?"

I slowly got up and turned to face her, "And hello to you too Barbara. I was just trying to help the mayor up so he could return to his duties." I responded simply.

"I'm afraid he isn't mayor anymore. It's all over the news, in fact. "Mayor Cobblepot missing for weeks" the old mayor is back. Sorry Pengie, you're not going to be mayor anymore." She smiled and got close to Penguin's face, "And I'll have a lot of fun killing you."

With one of Oswald's hands untied, he threw a punch at Barbara, and she fell to the ground with a loud thud, cuing Butch and Tabitha to come in.

"Yeah, well the old mayor was replaced by me. I'll be the one back in charge." Penguin spat at her body on the ground, untying his other arm.

Butch sighed as he saw Barbara's body on the floor, "Dumb blonde. I don't get how or why you even convinced me to let her stay."

Penguin finally finished untying his legs, and he stood up, but stumbled, falling onto my back.

"She wasn't lying." Tabitha stated, "You guys must be a couple." She looked over at Butch with glaring eyes, "And you and I both know that if it wasn't for Barbara, Penguin wouldn't have been in our grasp. His little brain wasn't smart enough to figure out that it was all just a little trap."

A wave of shock flew through me. They had a trap ready for him because they knew I was going to come and save him. Was it possible that Penguin didn't kill Isabella? I pushed Oswald off of me, and he fell to the ground with a loud thud, landing on his back. He slowly tried to get his small body up, but it seemed impossible for him to get a few inches off the ground. It was obvious he had been tied up for a long time.

After watching him continuously struggling for a few seconds, I helped him up. Butch and Tabitha let out loud, obnoxious laughs. We looked over at them with disgust and I took out my gun and pointed it at Tabitha's head.

"Woah, woah now Riddle man." Butch said sharply as he noticed the gun, "No need for violence. You and your Penguin boyfriend can leave as soon as he says we can be the head of the Underworld."

I looked over at Oswald, who hobbled closer to their faces, "Maybe if you hadn't tied me up for a week without food or water, I'd consider saying yes. However, it seems that it won't go your way." He looked over at me and nodded, "Shoot her."

Butch snapped his fingers, and a few assassins walked in, pointing guns at us. We were surrounded, and I knew we weren't going to go down without a fight.

Oswald laughed, "You think this will stop us?" He hobbled away from the two and smiled, "Think again."

With a snap of his own fingers, Victor Zsasz walked in and punched the assassin closest to him.

Shooting every which way, assassins fell one by one. Oswald took out a sharp blade and dove it into an assassin close by, and continuously stabbed him until his guts were spilling onto the floor. My insane bird friend was back, and it made me happy.

Leaving a large grin, he killed two more, and all of them were finally dead. We looked back at Gilzean and Tabitha and I smiled with Oswald, "So yeah, you were wrong." Oswald stated.

Both of us looking at each other with a grin, we walked past Tabitha and Butch, and walked out. Penguin has hobbled his way, holding onto my arm, "You need to work out more." He stated, "You're going to need strong arms if you wanna put fear into the lowlives of Gotham."

I responded with a smile, "You always know what's best for me, Oswald."

"What can I say?" He asked, "There is no Ed Nygma without the Penguin." Behind us, we could hear Barbara get up. Oswald turned to her and held up his blade, "I'm not in a good mood right now, so don't follow us unless you want to get your head cut off."

With his final statement and Barbara staying on the ground, we left.
