Alaric Connor's P.o.v

I know when I wake up my dad won't be here.
He never is.
He doesn't care.
Even when he's here he just disappears.
This house is not my home.
I honestly can't wait to get out of this place.

As I get ready for the reaping my thoughts reflect on my childhood and how no matter how hard I tried he was never proud of me.
Speak of the devil and he shall appear.

"Shut up you stupid child." My dad yelled turning the TV off.
He's going to scream and that's exactly what he does yelling profanities.

"I'm better off alone." I said trying to sound confident I grabbed my bookbag and left heading to the town square.

"You can't come back!" My father yelled.
That's fine with me.
I'm better of this way.

As I walked into the town square I could see people talking in quiet voices.
I can hardly wait tell I leave this place.

"Finger." The peacekeeper said her eyes not looking at me.
I can tell she knows I am the mayors child.
I obey the command then I head to my section reapplying the makeup to  cover the scars.

"Mother, I tried to deal with dad." I murmured softly looking up at the sky.

It started to rain then as the escort got on the stage.

"The tributes for this year have already been chosen by the mayor ." The escort said his voice quivering.

"Fern Harper." The escort said and I spot a small girl who seems quite malnourished walk up to the stage.

"Alaric Connors." The escort said and I hear gasps going through the audience.
Honestly I am not surprised.

I walked up to the stage holding my head high I won't give my father what he wants.

"I'm Alaric Connors." I said into the microphone before heading to my seat.

I shake hands with little Fern and then head to the Justice Building.

"You've always been a huge disgrace and now you will finally die and be with your no good mother." My dad growled slapping me.

"This house is not my home." I replied calmly ignoring his words.

"Your a good for nothing brat." Dad yelled.

A minute later a peacekeeper finally escorts him out.

I'm sorry mom but I won't be coming home.
