SIX

Percy
“So it was you, not me.” I shook my head, “I can’t believe you!”

Poseidon shook his head, “Percy you need protection, you will be the most powerful of all of the thirteen. But your powers will not emerge until the other twelve’s powers have emerged.”

“What is that supposed to mean?” I crossed my arms.

“It means that until then you’re vulnerable, it is my duty as your patron to protect you and keep you safe until you can ascend.”

“I’m so sick of all of this destiny stuff.” I frowned. “It’s my life and it’s my future and I’ll live it how I want to.”

“Percy you’re acting like an angst ridden teenage girl!” Poseidon yelled after me as I stormed away.

“Well maybe that’s what I am then!” I shot back. Well done, I thought to myself, that’s probably one of the worst comebacks that I’ve ever given.

A week later in training Hazel almost accidently drowned both Frank and Jason in a massive pile of precious gems and metals. Discovering that she could manipulate both of these things.

That left just me, Calypso and Luke without ‘powers’.

Thalia
It took me more than a week to build up the courage to visit Luke in his locked room.

I made my way down to where he was being held on my own. Annabeth had offered to come down with me, but I told her that she needed to stay with Percy, who was growing to resent the gods more and more by the day.

I stood outside the door for a long time before I managed to get myself to open it.

Luke was sat on a bed with white sheets, the room was mostly white and there was almost nothing in it other than the bed and a door that I assumed led to a bathroom.

Luke didn’t look up when I walked in. He was lying on the bed staring at the white tiled ceiling.

“I was wondering when I’d see you again Thals.”

“I wasn’t going to come.” I admitted. “But then I realised that I needed to hear your reasons for all of this.”

“My reason,” He sat up and looked at me, he gestured around us, “This is the reason. All of this. The so called ‘gods’ manipulating us, all of us, the TITANS won’t manipulate us, they’ll let us live our lives after all of this, do you really think that the gods will let us do that?”

“Do you really think the TITANS will?” I raised my voice slightly, getting angry. For some reason Luke’s words reminded me of how Percy had been acting recently.

“They’re more likely to than the gods are!” he jumped to his feet. As my anger rose I felt the air crackle with electricity.

“No they’re not, we’re too powerful, they’ll let you win for them and then kill you.” I clenched my fists at my sides.

Luke strode closer to me, “I love you Thalia, I love you so much, but you’ve got it all wrong.”

I stepped away from him, “I’m sorry Luke, but you’re the one who’s got it wrong.” I left the room, locking the door behind me.
