Annabeth
A week later, Luke and I sat in front of my laptop. Luke was helping me fill in any blanks that our plans had.
"It's at the empire state building," Luke told me.
"What?" I frowned.
"You don't have the location noted," Luke observed, "last I was told it was in the empire state building."
"Oh," I raised my eyebrows and filled in the blank spot.
Then an earthquake hit.
We jumped up and sprinted to the training room. This had been happening all week. Percy was really struggling to get his powers under control. Every time he tried to train it resulted in an earthquake or a mysterious flash flood. The news was calling it the apocalypse.
Sure enough we entered the training room to see Percy with a frown on his face and his brow knit. Sweat rolled off his face and his eyes were shut tight.
"Percy," I ran over to him and put my hands on his shoulders, "Percy it's okay, you can let it go."
"I'm trying," He panted.
"How long this time?" I asked Poseidon who was stood close by, looking at Percy with a troubled expression.
"Almost ten minutes," Poseidon said, "I thought he had a grip on it, but he lost it and..." He gestured around.
I turned back to Percy.
"C'mon Percy, you can do it," I hated seeing him like this.
The earthquake stopped and Percy staggered, I caught him and we sunk to the floor.
I cradled Percy's head in my lap. He sniffed and I realised that he was crying.
"It's okay," I kissed his forehead; "It's going to be okay."
"I don't think that it's safe for Percy to train in the city," Poseidon told me, "I can take him to Long Island and train him, we might make more progress there."
I nodded, "I wouldn't be able to come would I?"
Poseidon shook his head, "We need you here, you need to plan."
I frowned and looked at Percy. His head was still in my lap, but he seemed to have stopped crying. I wasn't sure if he was listening to us or not.
"C'mon Seaweed Brain, let's go for a walk." I told him. I clambered to my feet and pulled Percy with me. I put his hand in mine.
"What's really up?" I asked him once we were away from the training room. All around were signs of the earthquake that had just happened.
"I don't know," Percy shook his head as if to clear it, "It's just every time I try to use them I see it happening again."
I knew exactly what it he was talking about, our first wedding, the one that had ended in all of our friends and family being killed and us being framed for it all.
The aftermath of it had been the worst few months of my life. My father and half-brothers had been killed along with my stepmother. All I had left in the entire world was Percy. And on top of all of that we were convicts. We had nowhere to run and everyone was looking for us.
But why was Percy remembering all of this now? Why when he used his powers.
"I think it's a good idea for me to go with Poseidon." Percy confessed, "I need to get this under control and I can't risk hurting anyone."
I nodded, "I don't like the idea of being away from you, but if it's what you have to do then I support you. Just promise you'll come back."
Percy gave me a lopsided grin, but I could still see pain behind his smile, "I always come back, you know that Wise Girl."
