Chapter Twenty Three: Trails of Blood

Runaway - AURORA

Millie's P.O.V

Papers and books were scattered all over my bed. I was currently working on math homework. These equations just keep getting harder and harder. I need Finn's help. No! I don't need his help, I can do this all on my own. My phone started ringing with Finn's name on top. I locked my phone and went back to work. He's been trying to call me all day but I've been ignoring them all.

Why did he have to sleep with Maddie? I really thought he loved me, I'm so fucking stupid.

The sound of the front door bouncing against the wall caught my ear.

My dad came home two hours ago. He hasn't invited anyone over for two years.

"PUT YOUR HANDS UP!!" Say an unfamiliar voice.

"WHO THE HELL ARE YOU!!" My dad yells with a tone of dizziness from all the alcohol. I quickly slip my phone in my pocket and jump out of my bed. I silently reach the end of the hallway reaching the staircase staying low on the ground and having a perfect view of a man with a black hood covering his face. Two holes were cut out for him to see. He stood in front of my drunk father aiming a gun at his face.

"I SAID PUT YOUR HANDS UP!!" The man repeats yelling louder pointing the gun closer to my fathers face.

Bang.

Fear spreads all over me making me run away from the staircase. I reach a closet filled with me and my father's coats and unused shoes. I quickly run inside and lock myself in it. I kept the lights off with my body curled up in a ball. I couldn't stop shaking in fear.

Did that man kill my father? Is he still in the house?

I was trembling, I couldn't think straight.

"WHAT THE FUCK!!" I sigh with relief hearing my fathers voice knowing that he's still alive.

"GIVE ME ALL YOUR DAMN MONEY!!" The man yells.

"WHY THE HELL WOULD I-"

Bang, bang.

I was trembling even more. Hearing the first bullet was scary but hearing the second and the third bullet was terrifying. I curled up in a ball tighter. My whole body felt stiff. I had no strength or courage to call for help. I felt numb inside hearing the man yelling at my father and my father yelling at the man.

Tears were streaming down my face as I shiver with fear. I felt my phone vibrating making me jump a little. I quickly pulled my phone out wanting to shut up so badly not wanting the black hooded man to hear me. I read the name caller. It was Finn, I quickly answered the phone.

"Millie! Please, listen to me, it's really not what you think-"

"Finn..." I said quickly cutting him off.

"...I'm scared!" I said with a whimper. My phone was almost touching my lips as I said those three words. "What's going on?" He asks worryingly.

"Finn, I-I don't know what to do!"

Bang, bang.

"Millie, was that a gun? The hell's going on?!" He says with his voice rising. "T-there's a man... a-a man with a gun!! Please Finn, please, I need you, please!" I whisper in the phone.

Bang, bang, bang, bang.

My heart was beating faster than ever. My palms were sweating. More screaming and yelling came from the man and my father.

"Okay, okay, I'll be there, I'm calling the police!" Finn yells.

Bang, bang.

Beep, beep, beep.

Silence was the only thing that I could hear. Sirens were coming nearby. I slowly sat up from the ground. I unlock myself out of the closet and took every step carefully. I reached the end of the hallway. Everything seemed to be slowing down. The cold winter air was blowing inside from the front door that was wide open. The handle of the door was almost entirely ripped off that it was hanging ready to fall. Tiny holes were spread all over the walls of my small house causing the light from the moonlight to shine inside. Bullets. They were bullets.

The house looked even worse then it was. The man with the black hood lied dead with a bullet in the middle of his chest causing a trail of blood the puddle under him. Another trail of blood caught my eye. I reach my father lying on the ground with a bullet on his shoulder. I started to feel even dizzier. Eleven bullets. I counted and heard eleven bullets. I heard several footsteps coming into my house. I look up seeing several men with guns in the air pointing in every direction except me. The bright lights of sirens shined through the front door and the holes that were at the front of my house. Everything felt slow and stayed slow. A man's voice caught my ear.

"Ma'am, are you alright?" I didn't say a word. I couldn't. I just stood still staring at everything that's happening in slow motion with a tear trailing down my cheek. More people came in with more equipment. People were carrying my father and the black hooded man on a hospital bed carrying them inside the ambulance truck.

"Millie!" I familiar voice says. I look up seeing Finn running up to me. I feel him wrapping his arms around me pulling me closer to him. I wrap my arms around his neck pulling him as close as I could with him. I shut my eyes tight wanting to forget about everything that happened. I feel more tears trailing down my cheek.

"I'm here now," Finn says whispering in my ear.

"I know," I whisper back.
