Chapter XIX

Angelica tiredly followed the boys out. With the can of Ebony Ignis had given her in one hand, she slipped her phone out from her pocket and held it out to Prompto. Leaving the sleeping prince and Iris at the hotel, Angelica, Ignis, Gladio, Prompto, and Talcott decided to go for a walk. Prompto also suggested they get Angelica's phone fixed up while they were out.

The blond gingerly took the girl's phone, examining it. "Oh yeah, this can be repaired easily. The screen just needs replacing, that's all. There's bound to be a shop somewhere around here that has a replacement."

Angelica nonchalantly took a sip of her coffee. "Lead the way, then."

"Huh? Me?"

Angelica placed a hand on her hip. "Who else? You know more about phones and stuff."

"She's gotcha there," Gladiolus said with amusement.

"There's probably a few places at the edge of town that have things like that," Talcott told them.

"Then by all means, lead the way, you two," Ignis said.

Prompto and Talcott walked ahead of the others, chatting as they took the lead. Gladio and Ignis were right behind them while Angelica brought up the rear. She silently followed the others, sipping her coffee while letting her mind wander. She glanced at the tall buildings she passed by, being reminded of the streets of her home.

"Angel, is everything alright?"

The girl was snapped back to reality as she looked at Ignis. He and the shield were both gazing back at her as they walked. "Peachy," she answered simply.

Gladio grinned slightly. "Well don't just hang back there by yourself. You can join us, y'know." He reached out, taking her wrist and pulling her forward to walk between him and the advisor.

"Watch it," she warned, "you're gonna make me spill my drink."

"That would be a waste indeed," Ignis added.

Gladio chuckled. "Maybe Iggy's not the only one addicted to Ebony."

Angelica rolled her eyes. "Sometimes I just like coffee. It's not an addiction."

"To be honest, I'm the one who introduced her to it," Ignis admitted. "It was back in high school, actually." His emerald eyes locked onto the girl and a slightly devious smile crossed his lips. "She was practically bouncing off the walls the first time she had it."

Gladio laughed at that, causing the girl to look down at the ground in embarrassment. "I... It was the first time I'd had coffee," she muttered. "Get off my back."

"Relax, we're just messing with you," Gladio said.

She narrowed her eyes up at him. "I know. I'm not stupid."

"Then loosen up, Angel. Give us a smile. I haven't seen you express any joy all morning."

"I'll smile when there's something worth smiling about," she explained.

"You're starting to sound like Noct," Ignis pointed out.

Angelica laughed lightly at that. "What do you expect? We're around him so much that it's hard not to pick up things from him."

Ignis smirked triumphantly. "Seems I managed to get a smile from you."

Angelica covered her mouth. "Oh." She let her hand fall to her side, keeping a small smile on her lips. "Whatever. So you got me to smile, so what?"

Gladio glanced between the two, a sly grin creeping across his lips. "Damn, you two seem to connect on a whole 'nother level."

Both of their eyes widened ever so slightly as they turned their gaze to the tattooed man. Ignis was quick to come up with an explanation. "Simply a matter of knowing one another for so long."

Angelica swiftly nodded in agreement. "Yeah. I knew Noct and Iggy for much longer than you or Prompto."

"What was that?" Prompto suddenly asked, overhearing his name.

"Nothing, don't worry about it," the girl replied.

"Over there." Having reached the edge of town, Talcott now pointed towards the shops. "I think those are the places to find things for electronic stuff like phones."

"Way to go, Talcott!" the blond cheered.

The group hurried over and Prompto got to looking. He managed to find a place that had what he was looking for. Soon enough, Angelica's phone had been repaired and was once again in working order. She slid the device into her pocket.

"Thank you, Prompto, Talcott."

The gunman grinned goofily. "Aww, it was nothing. Just one of my specialties."

On the way back, the group ended up telling Talcott about their adventures and their current goal of finding the royal tombs. That's when Talcott told them about a legend of an ancient sword behind a waterfall. They immediately knew that it must've been a royal arm. They hurried back to the hotel where they met up with Noctis and Iris. Talcott explained to the prince about his knowledge of the hidden weapon.

The next thing they know, they're heading out to Burbost Souvenir Emporium - the rest area close to the waterfall Talcott mentioned. They quickly parked, stocked up on curatives, then left for the waterfall. It was a short walk down a staircase by the road and they were suddenly faced with the first obstacle. A midgardsormr was patrolling the area next to the water.

"Looks like we've got trouble," Noctis quietly spoke, the serpent not yet noticing them.

"No way we're taking that thing on!" Prompto cried.

"I'll handle it for you," Angelica offered. Her casual tone and neutral expression made it difficult to figure out if she was joking or serious.

"You would take a beast such as that on your own?" Ignis questioned. "I think not."

"Yeah," Gladio agreed. "We can fight too, y'know."

She sighed in frustration. "Fine, but try not to get in the way."

"Same to you," the prince retorted.

In an instant, he was gone, having warped to the beast. The others quickly rushed in as well. Angelica was quickly scanning over the serpent, pinpointing it's weakest points. She put her skills to good use in order to protect her friends and the prince she served. She was nearly as quick as Noctis, even though she couldn't warp. Ignis seemed like the only other to come close to her speed without warping.

The midgardsormr was quickly weakening by their onslaught. After hopping over a tail swipe from the snake, Angelica swiftly picked up on the next attack. The serpent was preparing to spit venom. The girl quickly leapt up right as the snake revealed its fangs. But before it could spit its venom, Angelica plunged one of her daggers into the bottom of its mouth, forcing its jaws shut as she swung up onto its head.

There, she stabbed her other dagger down into the snake's snout, effectively bringing it down. The midgardsormr collapsed, almost immediately dying from the wounds. Her daggers dispersed into light blue crystals, and Angelica stood from where she had been sitting on the monster's head.

"That was hardcore!" Prompto exclaimed. "You're such a badass, Angel!"

"It was nothing really. A creature like that is relatively no problem."

"Good job," Noctis complimented. "Now let's get going."

They followed the small river over to the large waterfall. Noctis noticed a small path that seemed to lead up to the side of the waterfall. He led the way until they paused at a cave opening tucked right out of view behind the waterfall. A light mist from the crashing waves hit them where they stood.

"This is it," Noctis said, his voice just barely audible over the sound of the rushing water.

He stared into the darkness beyond. A royal arm should be awaiting them inside. They only hoped that a big bad monster wasn't waiting to greet them as well.
