Evelyn wakes up to see her clothes being frantically packed, but her mother, Mary, is yelling from out in the living room while her dad, John, is packing her clothes unknowingly that she is now awake.

Evelyn hears her father's footsteps retreat as he goes out to the living room to help her mother with the loose zombie that got through the barricade, we had put up the day before.

"We can't stay here." Mary says dragging the walker out the back door this time and reinforcing the barricade once again.

John looks down at the ground and shakes his head

"How can we tell eve she will never understand this, Mary." John says walking back and forth in the living room watching Mary reinforce the barricade.

"She has to learn one way or another John." Mary says finishing up with the barricade and walking towards Evelyn's room.

John sees Mary and jolts in front of her while then returning to packing my clothes, while mary rubs Evelyn's back gently.

"baby girl wake up we have to leave." Mary says still rubbing her back while starting to pick her up.

Evelyn rubs her eyes as she drifts back to sleep. John grabs all the things putting them in the car while Mary got Evelyn in the back, before driving off to look for safe houses.

John is fishing down by the water banks and Evelyn and Mary are washing clothes and hanging them up when they hear rustling in the woods, Evelyn peaks through the leaves and find what it looks like to be a raccoon.

"Aww he was so cute." Evelyn says to Mary as John was shooing it away with one hand while an assortment of skinned fish in the other.

"Dinner is served!" He says plating the fish on our makeshift plates of leaves, Evelyn goes to grab some more water and accidentally knock over John's water spilling it all over him and his food.

"Are you fucking kidding me!?!" he says while jumping up from his seat and getting in her face.

Evelyn sits there still and silent like shes pretending to be dead, like she wanted to be at that moment.

"Fucking kids." He says sitting back down shaking his head.

He stands up as he walks over to the tree and picks off a thin tree branch with loads of leaves on it then comes back over as he sits by the fire, picking the leaves off the branch.

"Now put out your arm." He says holding the empty tree branch with no more leaves. Evelyn holds out her arm with her long sleeves on.

"Roll em up!" He says aggressively.

But as soon as she rolled her sleeves up, she regretted everything. He took the stick held it up in the air and then he whipped it on her arm, and it hit her skin like razor blades, but he wouldn't stop, not even when she was crying and begging.

He liked seeing her in pain, he liked being in control. You could hear the wind and impact of the hard rough spike filled branch hitting her soft innocent skin, over and over and over again.

"Good now roll it up." He says throwing the branch in the fire pit. "Now don't make me do it again." He says going to lay down in the one tent we had brought.

Evelyn sat there in tears holding her arm, blood soaking through her sleeves. Evelyn can see her mother peeking out the tent looking at her. Why did she let him do that, why didn't she help her baby girl.

Evelyn throws sand on the fire until it fades and goes out then walks over to the tent, squeeze into the bed and fall asleep.

It's the next day and Evelyn can feel the ground moving as shes waking up, but as shes opening her eyes, she felt the wind creeping up her spine and send a chill down her body. Evelyn opened her eyes then rubbed them, seeing that she was being carried by her father while her mother walked close by.

"The building should be up here hun." John says speaking to Mary.

"I don't wanna go all the way in Atlanta honey, it might be dangerous." Mary replied.

"We're not going in just on the outskirts-" John says but is stopped by the sound of a car one way and radio chatter the other way.

They decide to follow the radio chatter as the car has passed now. They're following the sound and peeking through the leaves to see a big group of people and some kids running around too. Mary walks through the leaves and holds her hand up in the air

"hello? We don't mean trouble." She says but as soon as she says hello they are all on edge.

"Who are you? Where did you come from." I hear someone say.

"My name is Mary, and this is my husband John and our daughter Evelyn." Mary says holding John's hand and leading us out the woods.

As soon as they emerge John sets Evelyn down and she immediately hides behind johns pants leg, peaking out to see three kids staring right at her, they all look around her age maybe older.

"We heard radio chatter, was that you guys?" Mary says stepping forward to the people who look skeptical.

"Yeah, that was our radio. Glenn round up some people we need to do a supply run." an older man with a bucket hat says gesturing to this man with black hair and a baseball hat on.

"Sure, thing dale." Glenn says while walking over to this already put together group of people.

Evelyn watches as she sees them talking and gesturing towards the city. John walks Evelyn over to the group of kids, but they scoot back.

"You all can stay here." Dale says while inviting my mother and father inside of his RV.

Evelyn walks over to the kids but some of them run away.

"Hi, I love your shirt!" the one girl says pointing at my shirt.

"Thanks. my uncle got it for me when he went to Italy." Evelyn says smiling at the girl then at the shirt thinking of my uncle.

"Want to see something cool?" she says pulling something out of her backpack.

"Sure." Evelyn replies awaiting what she's going to show me.

She pulls out what looks to be a knife then grabs the one boy's arm and stabs it into him, Evelyn excepted a scream maybe tears or even blood but nothing. She takes it off and not even a mark on his arm. She then grabs it and puts it up to my face,

"Fake knife. my mom won't let me have a real one." she says while putting the knife back in her backpack.

"How do you get it to look so real?" Evelyn says still looking at the boy's arm.

"Dale and Andrea found some paint on one of their supplies runs. Anyway, I'm Sophia, and that's Carl and his brother, Asher, ash for short." the girl says pointing at the two boys.

"So, what's your name?" she asks.

"My name is Evelyn." Evelyn says while then hearing dale and john stepping out of the RV.

"Glenn get your group! John here is going to join you guys on the run." dale says.

"Your leaving?" Evelyn asks tugging on John's shirt, gaining his attention.

"I won't be gone long." he says while walking over and grabbing his backpack off the floor.

"And mom's okay with this?" She asks looking back at mom stepping out of the RV now.

"she's fine with it, we have to pull our weight if we're going to stay here." he says before she spoke up.

"then I'm coming too." Evelyn says as he looks at her in shock.

"You don't need to do that I'm going to be fine you should stay with mom and play with the kids." he says while she picks up her backpack swings it around her shoulder as she walks over to a car, opening the passenger door.

"You go. I go." She says hand on the passenger side handle.

Evelyn watches as she sees john sigh in defeat as he put his backpack in the back seat of one of the other cars.

"You're Evelyn, right?" Evelyn hears Glenn speak up as he is walking over to the car she's standing next to.

"That would be me!" She says tugging on her backpack straps.

"Hey Glenn it's good if my girl rides with you?" John says putting his hands on Evelyn's shoulders taking the backpack off.

"Yeah that's all good!" Glenn replies unlocking the car.

John gives him a nod as he gets on one knee down to Evelyn's height.

"Now you be good for Glenn, listen to him and be nice." John says while placing a kiss on Evelyn's forehead as well as helping her into the car and putting her backpack by her feet.

"Glenn take care of my girl okay?" Mary says as she's walking over to the car.

"Don't worry ma'am I will!" Glenn says as he reaches over, strapping Evelyn's seatbelt for her.

"Okay let's go!" They hear one of the other people say banging on top of their car leading the way.

Glenn starts the car as Evelyn fidgets with her hands.

They reach the edge of the city and ditch the cars, they don't want anything to attract more attention to them than possible.

They start walking around corners and streets looking for a building that didn't look ran through, but they couldn't really find any. Until then when they turned the corner and see a giant herd and it's coming right for them.

Everyone starts running towards any building they could get to but most of the doors were locked or barricaded, so they all ran to this one building glass doors but no barricade, it was risky, but they had to get away from the walkers.

Everyone is running and suddenly Evelyn hears someone yell as they fell down but to her surprise as she's turning around she catches a glimpse of who had fell, her father.

Evelyn started changing her course of running from the zombies, now towards the zombies in hopes to help her dad.

"Dad! no!" She starts screaming as she gains closer to them but before she could get closer someone grabs her pulling her toward the building.

"No! No! We have to help him!" Evelyn screeched out pulling towards her father.

"Evelyn we have to let him go." Glenn speaks up as they both hear John let out screams until there weren't anymore.

"no no no no." Evelyn repeats in tears while Glenn swoops her up, carrying her to the building.

Everyone made it to the building, except John. They all contribute barricading the doors while the zombies keep pounding on the door.

"No no, why did you do that! You could've saved him! You monster!" Evelyn screams at Glenn while punching his chest as hard as she could while tears are streaming down her face.

"Sh sh I got you. I got you." Glenn repeats as Evelyn sinks into his arms, still crying.

"shh shh it's okay." he whispered in her ear while coddling her.

Glenn and Evelyn stay huddled together as everyone else's tries to find escape routes until Andrea had found roof access.

Everyone had gone up to check it out except Glenn as well as Evelyn until they hear an explosion go off. As they both rush to their feet Glenn grabs hold of Evelyn's hand leading her up the ladder to the roof.

"Do you think it's gone off by itself?" T-dog asked.

"No way, I saw someone go in there." Andrea says while she goes to grab the walkie-talkie out of her backpack, turns to the tank radio and hands it to Glenn.

"Hey, you, dumbass, yeah you in the tank, you cozy in there?" Glenn says while climbing down some of the buildings and going down to get the mystery man.

Evelyn fiddles with her fingers rubbing the dirt off them until Andrea grabbed a hold of her hand leading her back down the ladder down into the department store once again.

Andrea, Evelyn as well as Jacqui spend some time roaming around finding trinkets as well as some more supplies.

The three hear commotion as Evelyn picked up two bracelets, one of brown stone while one of blue stone.

The three rush up the ladder back up to the roof, lifting the hatch and stepping out. Andrea and Jacqui rushed over to the other group leaving Evelyn to step behind Glenn and grasp his hand tightly.

"Why is he handcuffed Glenn" Evelyn asks quietly tugging on his shirt.

"He was being a bad man." Glenn says while gripping her hand as well.

Evelyn stays sat as she watches the adults argue over the man being handcuffed.

T-dog then slips the key in his front shirt pocket then patting it. Andrea notices letting out a faint chuckle. 

Glenn then grabs Evelyn's hand once again guiding her down the ladder once again. Once they reached the bottom he lifted her off letting everyone else come down as well.

Glenn then follows Rick Into a room leading outside, Evelyn sees them open the door then grab a zombie as they proceed to gut it.

Evelyn gags as she watches the guts being spread onto Glenn and Rick.

Once they were both done getting lathered with zombie guts Glenn walks over getting down to Evelyn's level.

"Eve, I promised your parents I would keep you safe. This is me keeping my promise." Glenn says while then giving Evelyn a smile.

"Eve huh? I already got a nickname, pizza boy?" She says then hitting the brim of his hat.

Glenn lets out a chuckle then grabs his hat by the brim, removing it off his head then placing it onto Evelyn's.

"Keep this safe, it's my favorite." He says before then hitting the brim of the hat causing it to fall down over Evelyn's face.

"Me or the hat?" She says jokingly.

Glenn smiles then holds out his hands looking for a hug before he goes into a herd of walkers until Evelyn gives him a weird look causing him to put his hands down.

"Thats sweet and all but you smell like barf." Evelyn says holding her nose.

He laughs then waves to me as he and Rick step out the door into the herd before closing it behind them.

Evelyn stays watching the door as everyone else scatters looking for anything they can take with them. Andrea comes up behind Evelyn wrapping her arms around Evelyn holding her.

"Do you think Glenn is gonna die like my dad did?" Evelyn asks while turning to Andrea.

"Oh eve." she says pulling me into a hug.

"Glenn is strong, your dad I could see it in him he was weak." She says while hitting the brim of Evelyn's hat.

"Does this make Glenn my dad?" Evelyn asks confused.

"You will have to ask him." She replies as she hands Evelyn her backpack.

Andrea is about to speak up until Rick comes bursting through the door hauling everyone out of the building, sending T-Dog to go get the man on the roof.

Andrea grabs Evelyn's hand as she leads her to the cube van Rick had intercepted.

They all step in, but without the man from the roof.

"Where's Glenn?" Evelyn asks looking around the cube van.

"I want Glenn." Evelyn says while tugging on Andrea's shirt who was sitting next to her.

"Where's Glenn?" Evelyn speaks up repeating.

"Ok, Ok evelyn just please be quiet!" Andrea says regretting her words as soon as they came out.

Evelyn looks to Andrea in shock as she scoots to the back of the cube van. She bites the inside of her lips causing them to bleed, biting harder and harder.

Evelyn hears the faint grumbles and groans fade as they exit the city, still wondering where Glenn is.
