Taehyung’s POV
“My foot hurts,” I sulked as Namjoon tried to bandage the bleeding mess as gently as possible.
“I know,” he said soothingly. “Please don’t talk to me and destroy my concentration, I might break your Metatarsals accidently.”
"My what?"
"Metatarsals. Bones that make up the forefoot. Personally, I think they look a lot like calcified french fries, but when I told that to my biology teacher, she slapped me," Namjoon cribbed under his breath, "I mean, who even slaps innocent ten year olds these days?"
"So basically Metatarsals are feet bones?"
"Uh huh," Namjoon grinned happily.
“Then please don't shatter my feet bones, Joon!” I shrieked, my voice at a slightly higher octave. His deep dimples shined with the glare of the light in the room as he smiled. He gently tapped my sore foot before standing up and ruffling my hair.
“Done,” he beamed. “And the foot is in one piece! Well as much as it can be in one piece while it looks like a donut with that bullet hole in the centre.”
I shook my head in exasperation and stared at the red stained gauze. Running like madmen away from the employees of Dr. Malhotra’s agency had strained my still-unhealed foot and the wound had opened up once more, sending shocks of pain through my body.
"Who is that dude who called that spaceship a flying donut in that Avengers movie?" Namjoon asked, lost in his own thoughts.
"Tony Spark?"
He looked scandalized. "Spark? Tony Stark, you uneducated man! How can you not know Iron Man? Joan spoke about him last month too!"
I winced as Namjoon's annoyed voice reverberated in my skull and thoughts about Joan entered my mind once more. She was right about my wound. Any of our friends would have carried me if they were around but my stupid, stupid brain still thought that she did it because she liked me. But she didn’t, and the sooner I understood that, the better it was. I had enough enemies as it is, I didn’t want to scare Jin away too by fantasising about his girlfriend. I wiped my wet eyes and stumbled over to the bathroom.
“Aw, Taehyungie, don’t cry,” Namjoon muttered softly. I turned around and hugged him tightly.
“I’m so alone,” I sobbed into his chest. “I have nobody! I just want to go back home to my mother but she's dead... my siblings, my grandparents, all of them are dead. All because of me...”
“Taehyung,” Namjoon sighed. “You are not alone. You have me, I’m right here. And you have everyone else too.”
“Don’t ever leave me,” I begged, my teary eyes making my friend’s face all blurry. He gave me a sad smile before hugging me tighter. "E-even if I do something stupid, please don't leave me alone."
“I’m not leaving you. I’m just as homeless and friendless as you are.”

“Hi!” I smiled brightly at Sarah and she winked. She was always winking at me. She thought she was a great winker but both her eyes blinked simultaneously whenever she tried to do that. I grinned once more and Sarah beamed right back, her blue eyes glittering in the sunlight.
It was a warm, warm day. So warm, that I had shed the sweater that Joan had bought me for the upcoming winter. She liked to buy things for me, not very big things, but small sweet gestures that made me love her even more.
“Seriously?” Sarah groaned loudly. “I’m right here but judging by the lustful look in your eyes, you are quite clearly thinking about Joan. Has anyone told you that it’s rude to think about other girls when you are talking to a hot and smart one?”
“Hot and smart?” I raised my eyebrows in mock surprise. “Where? I can’t see-”
“Idiot!” Sarah shoved my arm and I grinned widely at her flustered expression. “I spoke to your mom yesterday,” she said happily. “And Dae finally came over. I was just started to think that she drowned in the Pacific ocean or something.”
“Mom? Dae?” I asked, my mouth dry. “But they are..?”
“How is it that I am more informed about your family than you are? Oh yes. That’s because I speak to them everyday while you ignore them! Call your mother young man, or I will hang your corpse from the ceiling!”
“B-but my mother is-”
“A sad old woman that misses her son? Yes.”
“But she’s dead! Dae is dead! Jung-Hyun is dead! They’re all dead! You are dead!”
“Right,” she nodded angrily. “Keep calling us dead and someday when we actually die, you’ll feel like shit.”
“But you are already-”
“Taehyung, this is not funny! If you don’t want to be around us, then just say so! Stop pretending like we are not alive!” Sarah sent me one last revolting look and stormed away from me.
“No! Come back!” I yelled after her but she had gone already.
There was a sudden bright flash and mist started pooling out of my hands. I could hear screams of pain in the distance but my feet were refusing to move. When I collapsed on my knees on hearing Dae cry out for me, the dense fog disappeared.
Everything disappeared.
I found myself standing alone at the brink of the world and staring down into the vast emptiness. There were more yells and I whipped around to see six dead bodies laying on the grass which withered under my touch, turning into an ugly brown. Six rotting cadavers; my grandparents, my beautiful mother, my sister, my twin brother and Sarah.
Blood was pouring out of all of their wounds. Everything around me turned into black and white, except their blood which flowed freely, a deep red river with multiple rivulets, trailing over my feet and my hands.
Their blood on my hands.
It was my fault.
Everything was my fault.
Right on cue, they all rose, like some kind of prehistoric black and white horror film, their palms stretched outwards, their eyes feelingless sockets and their faces with cruel smiles.
“You see this?” my mother gestured to the bullet hole in her gut which was issuing fountains of red liquid. “Can you see this?” she repeated.
“Mom!” I croaked out as a big rock fell on her from above, smashing her skull like it was made of paper. I rushed forwards, tears of agony pouring out of my eyes but she just got up and stared at me with hatred.
“You come to help me now?” she asked quietly. “Where were you when they shred our house to bits? Killed all of us without second thoughts? You come to help me now? I don’t need help now. Look! I’m invincible!” She grabbed a hunting knife from her backpack and stabbed her own throat.
I screamed and rushed ahead as her head lolled down the slope, a cold ball that was severed from its body. “Mom!” I wept. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry! Come back, please!”
I staggered over to her lone head and cradled it. “Mom!” She opened on eye and glared at me with contempt. I whimpered in horror and backtracked quickly, only for my back to hit a pair of legs.
“Dae!” I screamed as she toppled over and her head separated from her body. “No! No!” I continued away from the dead bodies, my rising grandparents, my brother smiling wickedly at me while chopping off his own head, and my mother.
For a moment I felt like I had managed to escape and then someone behind me spoke. “Think you can get away that easily?”
Sarah.
“Please,” I whispered. “Leave me alone! I didn’t want you to die! Any of you! I’m sorry!”
“Can you see the apology bring us back? We’re dead and it is all your fault. Yours. No on else’s. You are the one that ditched your family when they needed you, just to save your own skin. You are the one that saw me right before I turned invisible and stood in front of Joan, and you did nothing! You could have killed the girl with the gun, you saw her aim at Joan ages ago! But you stood there and let me die instead because you are a coward that runs from everything!”
“No! No, I didn’t mean to! I’m sorry!”
“There’s only so much that you can run from death. Die now. Let us get our revenge. Let us kill you.”
“No, please!” I screamed as five heads rolled up the slopes, a knife in each mouth pointing towards me. “Please, don’t kill me.”
“Begging won’t save you,” Jung-Hyun spoke for the first time and I wailed on hearing his voice. It had been such a long time since I heard him, so so long. “Won’t you die for me?” he frowned. “Do you not want to be with your own twin? Did you hate me that much?”
“I didn’t hate you,” I cried. “I didn’t, I didn’t!”
“Then prove it to me. Die for me right now, and I’ll forgive you. Die for all of us right now, and we’ll all forgive you.”
“Please, no, I want to live,” I sobbed. "Don't hurt me!"
“Is your love for life more than your love for family?” Dae asked. “Do you not have a shred of self respect? Will you still plead for your life when we try to take it? Shameless boy!” she hissed. “You owe it to us. We can’t find peace and it is all because of you! Don’t you have any sense of morale? Mom what did you teach him? He’s a useless jerk that cares for only himself.”
My mother shook her head and the severed skull vibrated on the grass. “I never did love him.”
“Mom,” I whispered. “You loved me, you did! All of you did!”
“And I’m sure it is our love for you that asks you to die for us,” Sarah examined her fingernails. “Give up now, Taehyung. What are you waiting for? For Joan to realise that she has hidden feelings you? She doesn’t.”
“We want peace,” grandmother said. “We will get it only when you die. Let us kill you now, or you kill yourself. We want you dead because you took away life from us. It can’t get simpler.”
“Come now, don’t pick on the boy,” grandfather muttered, rolling forwards. “If he doesn’t have the decency to fulfil the last wishes of six people, who are we to intervene?” he turned to me, poorly concealed anger in his eyes. “Just know, that when you go back, your life won’t be the same. Deep, deep down, you know that you are responsible for all of us being like this, so I will make sure that you get to reflect on that everyday. Every single day. Unless of course, you’d like to die and finish it now.”
I buried my head in between my knees. I was so scared. “I don’t want to die, please.” Tears flowed from my eyes, forming a black puddle on the grass and mixing with their blood. The liquid rose higher and higher, until I couldn’t see my any of them anymore. “I’m so sorry,” I whispered as the huge wave fell down and splashed on me, soaking me completely.
I woke up in a cold sweat, the image of the cruel smiling faces of my dead friends and family, still sharp in my head.
