"You're cheating on Jungkook?" a snide voice reached my ears. How was it that there was a group of girls with a superiority complex, in every school? Was there some kind of hidden contract? School isn't a school if it doesn't have annoying kids?
"Yes, I am!" I said brightly.
They exchanged uneasy looks. Bingo. Call me crazy, but it was the most hilarious thing to see them attempt to think and comprehend life in general. Money couldn't buy them brains.
Pity.
"Who was that hot guy you came with? You hugged him."
"A friend."
"Is he single?"
I scoffed at the question. "I don't know."
"Joan." A hand gently tugged on mine and I flipped around to see a concerned Jungkook looking at me, his dark brown hair ruffled and falling idly over his forehead, framing his sharp jawline. He placed his soft lips on mine and I smiled.
"Joan, please don't do that again. I was so worried." His rounded doe eyes were serious for once. I didn't need to ask what he was talking about.
"I'm sorry," I muttered shamefacedly.
"I know that but when I saw that you were not there at home, I automatically assumed the worst had happened." His large palm cupped my face, his thumb pulling my chin.
"I care about you and I don't want you to get hurt," he whispered and the surrounding girls 'oohed' and 'aahed' and 'awwed'.
He leaned forward once more but the bell rang suddenly, making us both jump apart.
"Don't fail your paper, Jungkookie," I grinned and pecked his nose. He scrunched it up in the adorable way that only he could.
"I'll try not to," he laughed. "Wait for me at the gates later."
I nodded and ran into the classroom, tossing my bag over my shoulder. When I entered the examination hall, the first thing I noticed was that there were more teachers than usual, at least ten of them, all huddled up and whispering in the corner. They simultaneously looked up when I walked in and glanced at each other. One of them smiled threateningly at me.
Shit was about to go down.

I could feel the hot stinky breath of a teacher behind me as he watched me like a hawk. I continued writing my paper, ignoring the intruding presence until I felt a cold finger stroking the exposed part of my neck where the shirt did not cover the skin.
I froze.
Slowly, I turned around to face the man and I noticed the way his hands were now fully cupped around the back of my throat. He was basically strangling me but without the pressure. Threatening me.
"How may I help you, Sir?" My voice, although spoken softly, echoed around the silent room making several heads turn to face us. It was unheard of, a teacher talking during an exam, much less touching the student.
"On the contrary," the man said, kneeling down. "Would you like my assistance, Joan Jackson?" Which fool sat on his knees next to a hot tempered girl, exposing his shins for a perfect kick? Apparently this joker.
My blood boiled when his lips curled into a snide smile. He knew. Or he suspected. Both made him as dangerous as a snake poised to strike.
"With what, Sir?"
"Oh, I don't know...how about with getting over the unfortunate death your brother?" His fingers were already closing in, slowly but steadily. He was giving me a free massage that I hadn't requested for in the first place. A flash of silver caught my eye and I swiftly directed my gaze to the front to the student on the row to my left. Another teacher was standing there and sharpening a dagger on the edge of Jungkook's table.
Not Jungkook.
No one was allowed to touch him.
I narrowed my eyes and snapped my attention back to the troll trying to cut off my air supply. He jerked backwards, his fingers leaving my throat as he recoiled from the harsh look that I gave him.
I smirked.
I had been told countless times that my grey eyes looked scary when I was angry. Like thunder, signalling the advent of a storm.
It was true.
"I'm perfectly fine right now, thanks," I said, my eyes blazing.
The man avoided my gaze and his eyes roamed my body. Coward.
"Who was that boy?" he hissed.
"Which boy?" I sounded cool and calm which did not reveal the tumult of emotions I was feeling.
"Who came with you to school!" he roared, his spit flying in all directions. All students collectively stopped writing and they stared blatantly. All of them. The teacher in front of Jungkook placed the knife in her back pocket.
"Ah, that boy. A friend."
"Your...friend...looked older than 17."
"I didn't know you observed men, Professor."
"Don't play smart with me, Joan!"
"It is refreshing to know that you think I am smart. I think so too," I mused, my lips curving up into a dangerous smile. The man jumped back again. He really should have understood by then that I was usually seldom bothered by the likes of him because I was intimidating. It was one of my most appealing aspects.
I think.
"He is older than seventeen!" the man tried again.
"Interesting deduction, Sir."
"I'm sure you wouldn't object if I was to run just a few tests on him?"
I smiled coldly. "By all means, Sir, have at it."
He drew back, at an impasse. He honestly did not expect me to cower and plead for Jin's life. If there was one thing I knew, it was that Jin was more than capable of looking after himself. And that I never begged.
The bell rang signalling the end of the exam and the man narrowed his gaze down at me after standing up. I carefully placed my sheets in his hand and raised my eyebrows mockingly. I was poking a sleeping dragon but I didn't care. I was nimble enough to get away.
"You are dismissed," he whispered.
I walked out of the classroom without looking back.

"He touched you! He touched you!"
"Jungkook, calm down-," I tried to pat his muscly hoodie encased arm and soothe his alarmed voice.
"No, I will not calm down! Who does he think he is!"
"A government official that can end our lives very soon, so please, just try to let it go," I pleaded. "Deep breaths, Kook."
He shook his head and pushed his hair back to expose his forehead. "Threatening you, I will still accept. He cannot touch you!"
"Good to know that you are okay with someone threatening to kill me," I muttered and Jungkook scowled. I dragged my knife out of the sole of my shoe. "If he tried anything more, I would have stabbed his eyes," I said quietly. I gently hugged him as he started shaking once more with soundless sobs. He was scared and I knew it. "Shush, sweet, we're okay," I whispered, running my hand consolingly up and down his large back.
"Ehm."
I turned to look at Jin who was rubbing the back of his neck in awkwardness and holding a half-eaten meatball sandwich in his hand. "Um...hello." A lone tomato slice fell out of the plastic wrapper holding the fast food he was eating.
"Hey, Jin. Jungkook, this is Seokjin...Jin, Jungkook, the boy I told you about. The food dude."
Jin waved his large palms in greeting and Jungkook sniffled in response.
"What happened to you?" Jin asked.
"Some dumb fuc-," I clapped my hand over his mouth and Jungkook glared at me.
"Uh...Joan?"
I winced as Jungkook's tongue swiped against my hand and poked him in the ribs.
"Stop!" I hissed. "If he hears about this he'll go ballistic!"
Jungkook rolled his eyes and continued lapping his tongue against my hand. I yelped as his teeth gently tugged on the skin of my palm and wrenched my hand away from his lips.
"Joan!"
Right. Jin. I faced him and saw poorly concealed anger in his eyes. His mouth was set into one hard line. He stepped forward and even though we were nearly the same height, it felt like he was towering over me. I resisted the urge to step back and met the blazing fire head on. He tilted his sharp jaw.
"Now, where exactly can I find the man that tried to strangle you?"
